I keep bees to get away from technology in most cases, but very interesting information. Ty for sharing your time, Blessed Days...

No you don’t. Beehives are a technology. If you farm bees, you’re interacting with multiple technologies. I find it strange that technology has become synonymous with information technology.

@@LucasCarter2 I understand what you are saying. But to each their own.

Not to bash this effort, but the approach with the camera has been used by researchers for some time. Also, the data should be open for anyone to see (location anonymised), otherwise I expect this project to be gone eventually, as have many other "smart hive" systems and applications.

That’s cool, could really help a started bee keeper know there hive better

Fascinating. Is there a website? Are they available for purchase?

I wonder if nasty weather could affect the signals. Hmm. Beekeeping here in Canada is a bit extreme but knowing the temp inside a hive when it’s wrapped would be useful for seeing cluster size and if they are warm enough to reach a hive top feeder. I can see many benefits of your data going forward.

Is there a website? Where can we get more information?

Would love to have one on my hives but I don't have a power source it can be connected up to, great idea, pity we missed the boat with the Varroa Mite that's just come into the country, this may have helped pick up the invasion before it had a chance to spread as far as it has.
@phillee28142 жыл бұрын
Car battery + solar panel. It works for traffic signs, electric fences, security cameras, and many other things with a limited power requirement, so should be fine for this one.
@izinyosib8212 жыл бұрын
Most varroa mites are in the brood and as a result mostly on the nurse bees. These don't leave the hive. Further, varroa mites on bees tend to be on the underside of the bees, so a bottom camera would be needed. Alcohol wash is the recommended procedure to see if you got them. But if everyone is lulled in the "we don't got them here" mindset, well, who will do a mite wash?

What happened to the project? I can’t find anything online.

It would be nice to identify robbing and automatically reduce or close the entrance.

Is it possible to add a laser to shoot any small hive beetle that enters the hive?
@carolperry76952 жыл бұрын
he can add a sensor for outside bearding. collect data for swarm prevention
@phillee28142 жыл бұрын
Bearding just means the hive needs space to ventilate, to dehumidify nectar, get rid of excess CO2 in favour of oxygen or to evaporate water and cool the brood. It does not mean your bees are about to vanish in a swarm.

this the problem with cloud technology who owns the data?
@izinyosib8212 жыл бұрын
The owner of the server that hosts the data would be my first guess.
