1:40 The MG3 image is incorrect. It's actually a PKM. Also the Gsh-6-23 actually has the 2nd highest rate of fire which is 10000rpm.

Gatlling style cannons suffer two general problems. 1st it takes time to start rotation of the barrels. This delays the start of firing. 2nd rotating barrels adds a momentum to the rounds perdendicular to the path of flight (precision).

Isn't it called the correolis effect? Like the rolling of a round after it has travelled so far? I think it's the resistance of air along its sides that causes rolling as it travels to its target, in a spiral pattern

@@richardtownley4571 It's centrifugal force when barrels are spinning around a common axis. The rounds are accelerated sideways to the flight path. This is dependend on the spinning rpm and leads to different angles as long as the spinning is ramping up. A major disadvantage of a gatlling as it has to ramp up before firing else it will not hit with precision on the first rounds.

The GAU 8 and m-61 are NOT rotary cannons. They are different from a multi barrel cannon. look it up. the rotary cannon has 1 barrel but multiple firing chamber, like a high-tech revolver. The multi barrel cannon, aka the Gatlin gun, has multiple barrels with their own chamber.

@@jenspoe8569 It's basically the M61A2 that lowered the rpm for CIWS variant. Fighters are so fast so that's why the rate of fire have to be very high when it comes to dogfight.
