*As we are working with a negative value , -1.3375 is the upper bound as it is the largest and -1.3385 is the lower. I forgot to flip my thinking here as alpha is negative. The calculation and justification still remain the same. With thanks to Ian Abbott*

That's a very cool and powerful technique. I just used it to iterate on Newton's method for finding the root of an equation. Just save your starting point in Ans, and then use Ans-f(Ans)/f'(Ans) where f(x) is your function and f'(x) is it's derivative at x. After a few iterations, the answer will converge to the closest root to your starting point.

Can you tell me the difference between 991ex and the new 991 es plus 2nd edition? And which one is better for Alevel? Thanks

I would definitely get the 991EX for ease of use with the statistics and distribution mode. The 991ES Plus 2nd Edition is essentially a rebranding of the 991ES (Silver) calculator that has been around for many years. A good calculator, but the stats functions are not as easy to use and, in my opinion, the 991EX is much easier to use generally.

It doesn't make a difference to the calculation, but I think you have the upper and lower bounds the wrong way round.
