But does the autofocus detect goats as well? 95 % of my photography is goat-centric photography so if it doesn't it's a deal breaker for me.

AI AF is just a fancy name for an algorithm that contains the database of what to detect and focus on. It may or may not work for goats, but I don't believe at this time having a camera that claims AI AF will definitely warrant the best AF. Like I don't believe for a second the OMD EM1X can out-performance a D5 just because the algorithm in D5 wasn't named "AI".

Unless you're a professional sports/wildlife photographer. Have you seen the videos of the Olympus E-M1X tracking motorcycle racers or racing cars? Pretty impressive, not to mention the bird-in-flight tracking. Right now I've only seen the new Panasonic focusing on a static goose.

Nice Job. Very nice - One question, does the S1 have the option to pull pack on the noise reduction like the GH5/GH5-S? (NR +/-) On my GH5 I pull back all the NR because post NR is more surgical and accurate than real-time, in-camera NR. Thanks!

I think Panasonic have done quite a lot of things right with this camera. I like a larger body (I wish Nikon had chosen a larger body for the Z7) and they have a lot of interesting features, though some of them are more hype than really practical. The elephants in the room is the AF, which everyone seems to be worried about and the price of the lenses, which are just silly.

Yes! I would love to see some AF tests out there, and if the face-tracking ability is at least somewhat on-par with the Canon, this (the S1, not the S1R) is clearly the best mirrorless full-frame camera that one can get for hybrid shooting.

@@ahmonon4352 That's true. I own a Canon 80D and recently compared it to my friend's A7M3, and I couldn't tell a difference from their auto focus. Canon is loosing their magic of superiority in auto focus and I am definitely going to switch to something better in a year or two.

Game changer like damn. Might finally replace my old Canon 1Ds Mark II/5Dc instead of staying in Canon with the R. Sensor shift stabilization sounds great. Now we just need a solid EF to L mount adapter with good AF.

There's a slight crop in the S1R (1.1×) But, the more video optimized S1 has full sensor video readout.

Too bad they couldn't have kept it the size of a GH5. The new S1 is a pretty big camera/lens combo. Looks good though. I wish they had included phase detect AF. I assume the camera will be able to support CFexpress in the future, like Nikon will.

To fit the full frame sensor, IBIS, a juicy battery to support the processing power, 2 card slots and the new mount, with weather sealing, its currently just not possible for it to be smaller. But, in all honesty it feels like a DSLR sized camera that is sturdy and comfotable. We didn't mind the size nearly as much as we expected.

Why should they? Most people, I know don't want to carry around such a big camera and would buy a smaller camera anyway. There is a market for big high end cameras and there is a lot revenue per camera in it but the larger number goes to smaller cameras. Also, you don't buy such a camera with on kit lens and a system with two or more lenses can be easily above 5000$.

The Panasonic S1 & S1R seems a little too big and heavy for my taste, so I stay with my Sony equipment, but in any case some interesting cameras from Panasonic that seem much more exciting than those from Canon and Nikon!

I hope no one buys the 50mm 1.4 lens. We the consumers set the price by buying them. I would love to see the lens go down in price because their is no market for it. Sadly, I think people will find an excuse to buy it, I just hope it isn't that many people. I don't want any other camera manufacturers getting any ideas.

Panasonic new firmware should support 8K 30P. and interesting to check dynamic range and picture quality. For me for now NIKON best camera. I will wait full sale release from Panasonic. should be great camera.

Totally NOT compatible with 1/2 cropped lenses made for 4/3 and m4/3. Now we have two Japaneses lenses made for APS MFC. Japan Zeiss AF for Sony Japan Leica AF for this And one Japanese lenses made for my Chinese $40,000.00 camera.

Too big and heavy for travelers, no articulating flip screen for vloggers, an autofocus no one can trust, real pros already have real pro cameras with tons of great glass, so who is this camera for exactly? Sounds like the S1 and S1R could stumble coming out of the gate.

WTF don't they make pepper focus on MFT? Annoying. Love my PL 15 f1.7, 25 f1.4 and 42.5mm f1.7 but not one of them has a decent electronic focus mechanism. Considering they are on average more expensive than fujifilm and Olympus lenses which have great electronic focus mechanisms this is incredibly annoying. Suppose I should just buy Olympus pro lenses instead...

i am little disappointed i don't see a camera without compromises, but i see i camera recently borne with a lot of things to learn and a too much high price. i guess it will be a flop unfortunally, nikon sony canon are more intresting.. cause i don't really see an improvement in the image quality instead a level down from competition. Panasonic had the chance to bump up spechs and open a new market by implementing the 6k for example but they have lost the chance,

There are so many more benefits to mirrorless than compactness. Better optics, exposure preview, EVF for video etc.

The logic of mirrorless being only to make it small is a total missunderstanding, often by people who don't see the other benefits. Mirrorless is the future, wether or not the size is large or small. I haven't used DSLR's since 2012, back at the days when EVF's were quite small and low resolution but even then I much prefered the EVF and silent operation without the mirror. EVF's give so much more information as well. Thinking that mirrorless must be small is simply, wrong. /Rasmus
