It is a blessing that you are able to do your own repairs like this. Lefty is probably thinking "if I just had thumbs I could help dad". LOL !! Sometimes I get the feeling Flash thinks that "I could help mom if I just had thumbs". He was calmly laying out watching me working on finishing our solar panels install today which is up and running now. There is a joy in being able to do our own work like that. Yes I carry a lot of tools too. Honestly, probably way too many, but ya never know when you might need them or can help out someone else like you said in the video. Safe travels !! Beth and Flash.

You and lefty did a great job . Being a mechanic for 40 years I would suggest when reinstalling the difficult bolt to put anti sieze on the threads in case you need to remove it again. It comes with a small brush in the container . Hopefully you won’t have to deal with it again .

Interesting to see a place using those Sacagawea dollar coins. They really didn't take off in the U.S. The Treasury should have stopped printing the paper version when they started minting those. They are used very heavily down in Ecuador, since the US dollar is their currency, and in a wet climate, coins are preferred over paper money.
@TheCampulanceManАй бұрын
This is the only place I've seen use them like this. I wish they'd take bills and give change :)

1/2" breaker bar to 3/8" adapter to 1/4" drive torx and you're shocked it broke. Come on David you're smarter than that! Glad you got it changed. I've forgotten what you had said your solar panels were "each", you have 6 total so the 10 400+ watt panels I have at the house are now sorta excess to my needs. When I tested the panels in the high desert sun I was getting up to 512 watts. So I was thinking it you want to swap out your 6 panels for the newer one's I have we can do that on your way to Quartz site. Just a thought. Let me know your thoughts.
@TheCampulanceManАй бұрын
That's the first time I snapped a T40! My panels are 190 watts ea. I couldn't fit any bigger ones on there :)
@EfficientRVerАй бұрын
If it's the bit itself which snapped, then it doesn't matter what adapters, drive, ratchet or breaker bar were in the chain of command. The bit was the weakest link in the chain. A lot of different torx bit sets have the same size tool steel bit embedded in various diameters and drive sizes of chrome vanadium bit sets. I got a set with both the regular and the security version, to give me two cracks at it if one breaks. Plus, I have the smaller ones also in various 1/4 hex bit sets, like for driving deck screws with a small cordless impact or even a drill.

I've always wondered why heating a bolt loosens it, when heat causes metal to expand. It seems to me, heating/expanding the bolt should make it tighter.
@TheCampulanceManАй бұрын
You're right! Heating loosens any sealant or loc time that may be on the threads but the real advantage is spraying lubricant on when it's hot - the lube chases into the threads and that's what really helps it break loose.
