The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 68lb American Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter (www.vsas.org/) in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. Hi David & Lefty, Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it very much! I just wanted to say one thing about a storage unit. It’s not my place to say if someone should have one or not. But I had a storage unit for 11 years! Lol the years went by so quickly, and the payment for the storage unit was made every month automatically by my bank. So it’s not like I wrote a check every month and thought about it. Actually, I kind of forgot about it. I had moved to California and then when I came back I had nowhere near the space I had before I left. (I had sold my five bedroom three bathroom home.) coming back to Minnesota, I bought a one bedroom one bathroom condo. That’s all I needed. But there was no way I could go to my storage unit and put all those things in my condo. There just wasn’t space. So again, I just tried to put it out of my mind and tell myself that those things were there and they were safe and I could go and get them anytime I wanted to. Finally, I decided to add up how much I had spent per month over the 11 years that I had it. I was shocked. I had never thought of it in that way. The next weekend I went to the storage unit and selected the few items I absolutely couldn’t part with, and the rest I donated. It seems like storage units are great for short periods of time. But after that, all you’re doing is wasting your money. Unless you have someplace to keep sentimental things for free. Otherwise you can just go and rebuy what was in your storage unit, and believe me, after 11 years I could’ve bought some very nice things! lol Happy Independence Day!! LeeAnn 🌸

Happy Independence Day! My mom tells me “they say” that storage units aren’t worth it. I don’t want to replace all my tools, kitchen and canning items, etc. 60$ for climate controlled unit that size is cheap compared to my area👍 Talking politics is all about the people involved in the conversation. It isn’t cool or expected anymore to have a calm discussion where you learn about other people’s viewpoints but if you find yourself in company that chooses that kind of communication you can learn a lot. It’s one of the things that keeps us connected to one another, learning from and teaching each other. Enjoyed the video, thank you😎

I was born and raised in NJ, moved to SE WA just before my 25th birthday, which was a while ago. I’m close to your age now. Loved how you ended the video! Not sure if you know this or not about WA, but SE WA is desert, not green and rainy like Seattle area. I live close to the Columbia River…..maybe 5 minutes.

Happy 4th, David. You did a great job in this video, between keeping the channel pure while conveying that like everyone else you have concerns about the future; getting your storage unit in order to not impose on your parent and child even if they were OK with it; philosophizing about possessions and aging; enjoying eliminating thought patterns that create unnecessary obligations in your mind; etc. I struggle sometimes with similar things, knowing I should have long ago simplified my life in several ways that still have me pursuing some to-do lists that I'd probably be better off tearing up. But sometimes, following through and finishing executing a flawed old plan, just seems more my style than ditching it to reduce my workload and expectations of myself. When I dig myself into a hole, I like digging it to its full originally planned size, before taking the ladder out of the hole, I guess. I like that it feels better to be too busy than to be doing nothing. I dislike when I figure out that I could have done better things with my time. And then I feel even worse about having more time to go on getting things done as I wish rather than just as needed. You're doing the right thing not polluting or diluting your content with politics. No matter which side of the aisle anyone is on, let's just not forget that we're all proud Americans. Someone seeing things differently, largely because of watching different media, does not make a neighbor an enemy. Sometimes I think we had all been spoiled by not living through crazy times like my parents did, and my grandparents earlier did. But then I recall getting under my elementary school desk practicing for a nuclear attack, not quite understanding how our parents must have felt about the Cuban Missile Crisis, after having been in WWII themselves. Maybe we went through more than we realized, not that I want my kids or grandkids to. Hopefully we all come out the other side of tumultuous times fine, and go back to being less divided. Hopefully our adult kids will have a future more like the best-case scenario than the worst-case scenario. There are risks to getting too worked up, when things normally turn out OK regardless. There are risks to not getting worked up, because then nothing changes.

You mentioned favorite small towns. Traveling back and forth the U.S. we love peeling off U.S.70 e/o Denver and take hwy 36 to Hannibal MO. So many wonderful small towns , many with free overnight campsites in their city parks. Our favorite is Marysville KS , have a meal at the Wagon Wheel. Also love dry camping near Jacob Lake AZ. Wonderful meadows at 8,500 ft.

Thanks for editing, David. I like you guys, and I want to keep on liking you regardless of your positions on controversial issues. Even if I agreed with you on everything -- and I don't take that for granted however much I like you -- it would set the wrong tone if you directed the conversation toward things you weren't passionate about. That said, it is the 4th, and I feel the usual mix of pride and disappointment that I have felt most of my life, mixed, now, with worry about my nieces and nephews and their children. I walked outside today to watch the parade, and it helped to see so many happy children, steeped in the glamour of the day, and careless of the worries we old fogies bear.

Awww, David... you bonehead! 😮😄 The stuff you were looking for was parchment paper, which is chemically treated for high heat resistance, not to be confused with wax paper or plastic wrap (foil works for meat). I used it throughout my career as a baker. Makes good cookies without extra grease.

Politics is generally poisonous, but if it intersects with the nomad lifestyle I think it's worth discussing on your channel. I'm speaking specifically on the ruling that it's illegal to sleep in public or in your vehicle. I can see that negatively impacting campers on public lands. Sorry for doing exactly what you're trying to avoid, but if something is important you can't sit on the fence.

If it was necessary to wait 3 weeks for a part, what better time and place to do it? What if it happened in central New Mexico or western Texas? Then you'd have to wait a month, and pay a lot for a motel, IF there was even a motel within 75 miles. Lesson: Go with the flow. Enjoy where you are at. Blife even at its worst is a hell of a lot better than the alternative. You could be being eaten by worms 6 feet under the cemetery's grass!

Try dry ice on the pan to remove the plastic. My son melted some plastic that dripped on my cast iron skillet, and I read that dry ice will remove melted plastic.

Holy smokes, the juxtaposition of John Phillip Souza and Lefty is perfect! My wife was a big fan of those brass band marches -- when we went to the 4th fireworks displays at Crissy Field in San Francisco, they always had a band playing that music. Same composer as the Monty Python theme. I'm interested in the storage unit experience. Contemplating a move to Kansas, initially to stay with my sister. Would have to think about a storage unit for all my books and comics and other crap -- controlled air would be nice. I always have thought (since I was in grade school) of the part of summer between my birthday (July 14th) and Labor Day as "DEAD SUMMER", when nothing's doing and nobody's there. Waiting for school. That's the time to execute your plans.

For small town diner: I recommend Brandt SD. Population 100. Lovely town. You pass near by Brandt on your way to the sugar beet harvest. It's about 13 miles east of I-29. Totally worth the trip. You could even camp in the town park for a few days.

Dubois, Wyoming ! Best little town ! Awesome small town restaurant. Homemade pies ! Everyone comes there for that ! Pinedale, Wyoming ! Best bugger joint in the USA ! Rendezvous time is this coming week ! Rodeos, dogs welcome, parade. Pitchfork fondue and if you go there you can stop at my greatest friends ! And there are many many places you camp on national forest for free !

You need to use PARCHMENT PAPER. That Press N Seal is nasty and toxic when it gets hot as you see. I'm sure you aren't the first person to accidently use the wrong product.

For the storage unit make sure each months payment goes through, you might change credit card or something doesn’t go through and they will auction off all your belongings and lose everything, something to remember each month, they won’t contact you if something goes wrong with your payment

I totally get not letting go of your hifi system...my younger brothers and I used to build high end home audio speakers and subs. I have a pair we designed that have 2-16ohm tangband drivers with mid and tweet and they're absolutely amazing.... I'll never part with them lol. Happy 4th to you and Lefty.

I wouldn't be in a grand hurry. Even high elevation in northern Arizona are mid to high 80's and sometimes low 90's. Colorado isn't much better at mid to high 80's. If you're still set on Colorado you might consider White River National Forest. That's above cloud level. Literally. I have a photo coming down and you couldn't see the valley below as it was blanketed by clouds. Funny you're getting a storage unit and I traveled back east last year and got rid of mine. Hopefully your rig is back on the road soon. Safe travels bud.
