How do you age hens? Mines has a closed black ring on her leg but she doesn’t have any tail feathers and has her pink skin showing under her wins ? She also has brown hairs on her head that are sparred i dont know her breed as she’s pet shop bought
@TheCanaryRoom3 жыл бұрын
The ring colour can often (not always) help determine the age, in your case as it’s a closed ring it means, in all likelihood, the chick was rung in the nest as a baby. Each year the ring colour changes (on a five year cycle) so a black ring is from 2019 (green was last year, purple is this year)
@cleomarie50163 жыл бұрын
@@TheCanaryRoom its a black ring with 32 19 0n one of their rings and the other bird who i was told is 14wks has 23 but thats it? He’s also wheezing i bought him friday so it was a very hot day in a pet shop that was like a sauna i also bought a parrot from there and he died yesterday only lived three days outside of the pet shop
@TheCanaryRoom3 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely a 2019 bird then (black ring) sorry to hear about the parrot. There’s a variety of things that could be impacting the wheezing bird. Air sac mite is common but given the conditions you describe could be more fungal. Unfortunately the move itself can be quite stressful so I’d be inclined to look for an air sac mite treatment online in the first instance (treat and if it doesn’t clear then we can rule it out) meantime a slice of fresh apple will help

The using a needle and thread to sex birds doesn't work. Tried it on known cocks and hens and its random everytime, you unintentionally will move you're hand to what you want or think the bird is. If you try tieing the needle and thread up somewhere and just hold the bird the needle rearly even moves. It's a waste of time. Love the show, well filmed.
@TheCanaryRoom4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Josh glad you enjoyed it mate. you're right its certainly not a fool proof method by any stretch of the imagination, the Norwich "hen" was belting out song after I filmed the show but has come uppitiest as a hen every time I've tried it.
