Also you could put a hopper system which distributes the wheat into one chest and the seeds into another? I think that would be cool, and you may need more storage, so you could design a storage area to fit into this!

Great tutorial! I love playing on skyblock and its harder to get a hold of comparators than iron (to make hoppers), could I rather have rows of hoppers leading into the chest instead of the rails and the minecart? Or wont that pick up the wheat from the farmer?

Very nice farm! I was wondering tho, is it possible to increase the size of the farmland platform? The villager should see it up to 16blocks away, or is he not able to harvest a bigger platform in the end?

Radjes Radeon Sure. Just remember that the soil gets a required amount of water if there is a water block four blocks in any direction, so put a water source strategically.

does this still work in 1.22? I like the hopper car unloader - it works. but with or without a village, the villager seems to have unlimited inventory to pick up items these days. It does seem to keep inventory- I was able to follow it around taking everything it planted til it ran out again. But when it harvests, it picks up the wheat and the seeds.

Nice design and I love the fact that it is stackable. However wouldn't there be a more efficient way of placing the water within the farm to water the crops? It just seemed like a lot of room for water in that small of a design. Great job! can't wait to see some more tutorials!

Update: I've tested this in a super flat no structures world with a brown coated villager, one alone, again with another villager, and both times after the one villager farms all available wheat, it will not farm again. Only the introduction of a fresh, 'virgin' villager of brown coated color will start farming, only for it too to stop. A semi automatic farm is the only viable method of farming in bulk. Villagers are broken or nerfed to a point of unreliability for mass production. .

I've built everything correctly, but every time I place a brown coated villager in the farm, it will never farm, only stay in the corner with the hoppers. I've tried one with 8 stacks of seeds and a farmer profession with no stacks of seeds, and they both will not harvest the wheat surrounding them. I think this farm is broken.

Yes. If a village is nearby the villagers will - in an attempt to get to the village - only stay on the block that is as close as they can get to the village.

Mobgriefing is on by default and you can't enter the villager's inventory. They have nothing in their inventory when they spawn though so just make sure they don't pick up any items

Unfortunately no, because of what is either intended behaviour or a bug. They get lazy and stop harvesting when they have enough to eat.

In the center put a villager with a roof over his head, and hoppers around his legs so he cannot leave, the farmer will share his crop naturally, but the hoppers catch it before the villager picks it up.

Leaf dogparkmayor If you're in creative mode, use the "Spawn Villager" item. If you're in survival, use a villager breeder (Google it, make sure you're using one for your version of Minecraft) to breed villagers and use one of the babies once he grows up.

No, I invented this myself with the help of SimplySarc's video on bread factories. There are probably a ton of other farms out there that look really similar to this one, because it's a really standardized way to make a farm like this.

NanoRex Rex, I love the idea! But when i tried to build this with 3 layers, I got a problem. The wheat villagers all worked fine. But the carrots and potatoes wouldn't replant the carrots once the grew. I can't figure out why. Maybe if you could explain? Thanks!

EpicSoren if a villager has food in their inventory including carrots potatoes wheat or bread and a full inventory it will not plant anything. auto potato and carrot farms are problematic for that reason there are ways around it but these can be problematic and it's just easier to use wheat

turtle ben Thanks! If you want to build this, make sure you're in the 1.8 snapshots. unfortunately it doesn't work in 1.7. Another thing you could do is build it in 1.7, and when 1.8 comes out you can put the villager in and it will start working :)
