The only things I didn't like was that the back seat didn't fold flat, just in case someone wants to sleep on the passenger side. Some cars fold out flat, and that is nice. I brought a tent for camping anyway. And, the 2nd thing, the tires are great on the road. But, I went on some gravel roads, and went real slow, because they didn't seem too beefy, and I didn't want a flat. I agree, the SE is the best value in the lineup (Nightshade is just aesthetics, I wouldn't get it). The 2.0 gets better mileage than the older 1.8. For the trims, the Hybrid and SE probably get you the most Corolla per $, though the Hybrid would be best for those cross-shopping a base Prius. The XSE is too close to the Camry SE's price range, while the Apex IMO is not worth it if you really want a sportier Corolla as it will be way stiff (Just wait for the GR!). If there is a SE 6 speed in the Toyota press fleet, I would love you to test it as well. There's more dealers marking them up than selling at MSRP. I decided on the LE over the SE. I preferred the tried and true 1.8 with no direct injection. Also found a 21 made in Japan model. Also rides softer than the SE. All positive things for me. Got it in early 21 for 19,100 and had 1,750 rebate at that time. Still get 36-38 avg in the summer. Only 33 in the brutal cold of winter. My LE is the more upscale one with aluminum wheels and all the safety sense features. And if you accelerate slowly for mpg you have no cvt drone. That happens if you floor it. I never floor it.

I have a Corolla 2019 LE and it has been very good to me. My next car will probably be another Corolla and the current gen look good. I agree that the only downside is the price keep going up and creeping into Camry territory. But this seem to be the trend unfortunately. Inflation also doesn't help. Please Toyota, all I want is a basic reliable small 4-door car!

When my sis totalled the family '07 corolla, winter 2021, I remember going to check out a '17 corolla, and a '20 corolla hatch. and I was astounded, how much more space there was in the sedan, than the hatchback. like, in my head, i just expect that hatchbacks are more spacious and more practical than sedans, but the corolla hatch engineers clearly had a different idea of what makes a hatchback.

Perhaps Toyota Corolla engineers can morph a Lexus IS with the next generation Corolla where it combines the quietness of the Lexus IS with the roomier proportions of the Corolla. We keep our cars a long time (in excess of 10 years) and we're on our second Corolla LE, third Toyota vehicle. In the past we've owned BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Jaguar and Land Rover, but looking forward, it's only going to be Toyota/Lexus. Once Toyota/Lexus perfects an electric vehicle, it'll be time to give up our current 2012 Corolla! Enjoyed your video review.

I own a 2021 Corolla, purchased in Europe. Almost top spec model. It's an honest car, but also looks pretty cool. Have had many compliments about it's looks. The auto is the best CVT I have driven. Better than many other dual-clutch and torque converter autos I've driven in the past - not only because it is relaxing to drive but the MPG is outstanding too. BTW, in my kneck of the woods Toyotas are covered by a 10yr warranty or 185,000 km. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Fantastic review 👍 My wife bought a 21 hatch in nightshade and I bought the 21 SE sedan with the upgrade package (18's and a bunch of other stuff) Two things that bothered me was the rearview mirror, so I got Toyota to install the autodimming with homelink and compass and the tiny radio knobs. I bought the Rav 4 knobs and they fit perfectly, just got to take out the plastic piece on the back of new knobs and they fit right on. They would even fit your new Camry stereo knobs

I have the 2020 SE model. The biggest pro for anyone with an active lifestyle is the OEM roof rails!!!! This is such an oversight IMHO! The roof racks are rated to 265lbs. Most cars that don’t have the built in hardware have after market solutions that have ratings of 70 pounds or less. The aftermarket solutions also cost twice as much. I’ve fit 4 adults, each with luggage, in the car. Just strapped down the suitcases to the roof and went. I also had fishing rods and a bike. The Corolla is everything you can ask for in a subcompact car.

At the end I got a Camry se Hybrid and I am really happy with it, it is really comfortable, and cheap in gas and I also like the way it looks. I have this model of the Corolla SE and my complaints are the low profile tires since my wife hits curbs and the paddle shifters. I accidentally engaged them and could barely accelerate and didn't know what was going on. I used to own manual transmission vehicles and if I wanted to shift i would have bought a manual so get rid of the paddle shifters. But other than those 2 complaints it's a great car especially for the price. I paid $19k for a brand new 2021 SE.

Yes, the pricing is a problem as it overlaps with the Camry (similar with the Civic). Unless you want the basic low end model for price or wanting a smaller car, its just better to jump to the Camry.
@webcomment88952 жыл бұрын
It’s not a problem. It’s normal for a higher trim with more options of the smaller vehicle to overlap pricing with a low spec model of the next size up. No different than Civic vs Accord or a loaded RAV4 vs a base Highlander. If you have a dollar budget, you have to choose whether you want the most size you can buy for the money or the most features you can buy for the money. People buying this spec Corolla want the specific features and sporty looks or they would have gotten a cheaper trim level. Makes no sense to compare price to a base Camry instead of a similar trim Camry.
@mrallan80632 жыл бұрын
@@webcomment8895 That's your opinion, and that's fine. My points are still valid.
@aldrichemrys2 жыл бұрын
@@mrallan8063 No, that's not an opinion. He's stating facts about the price overlap caused by differences in trim levels and why people would want that over a car which may be an upgrade but has lower trim. Your opinion is valid only in so far as people not really caring about features and only want the specifications like room and engine power - and they just so happened to have extra money lying around.

@@webcomment8895 you are right. My '21 Corolla XSE with almost every option was in the price range or a little higher than the Camry, BUT, it was an entry level Camry. But then when I got it in Dec.2020 I got a $1,500 rebate and dealer took off about that same amount from the MSRP window sticker. In todays world you might just have to take what you can get at whatever price.

Good video. You mention the Camry but I like many people like a smaller car. The Camry feels huge to me, although I love the style and exterior design of the TRD Camry unlike you. And the biggest issue fir me is that I love a manual transmission and I can't get a MT on a Camry while I can with my Corolla. I currently own 2 Corollas, a 2009 S 5MT which I still think looks better than any other Corolla sedan ever made and a 2017 Corolla iM 6MT. Your 2014 was very similar on the interior design to my 2017 but I don't agree with you on that point. The new Corolla center stack area looks horrible to me with the stereo stuck there as an afterthought. I much prefer it located higher within the dash itself Like my Corolla iM or the Camry before they messed that up recently too. I do like the deign of the new Highlander stereo though as it's more integrated with the dash and looks 1000x better than the current Corolla and RAV4. I've owned 9 Corollas and several Camrys over the years and it drives me nuts how they keep getting bigger. That's what the next car up the ladder was for! When I needed more room we bought a Previa, what an amazing vehicle that was to raise a family with, but that's another story! Thanks for the video, always interesting to see your views.

I see alot of comments about the SE with a "JUMP " feeling from 1st to 2nd gear. This is normal. Mine does that it all depends on how much you are on throttle. If you take off with a lighter foot you will notice it does not do this. It's also more prone to do that when you take off on a hill and its shifting to 2nd while still on a hill. So when your on level ground with your foot more down it still does that because theres a load on the CVT. Experiment with what I just said, you will see and learn how to avoid that. It will come 2nd nature to you once you learn it.
