i have the same year and 167k I check the oil in mine every weeks. Toyota claims its normal for these to consume oil.

@@renj6531 It's normal because they use very loose piston compression rings to have less friction. Thus, allowing/giving better gas mileage and emissions.

I put 425k miles on my 2015 Camry before I sold it for a 2021 Tacoma..... That Camry was running like new, no oil usage or leaks, 3 water pumps and 3 Alternators... 4 sets of brakes, and 8 sets of tires...

20:17 Spark plug tubes: premeasuring them to the specified length and marking them with sharpy can help with time. You have a visual aid and can check it as it goes down with a fraction of a second making sure tge mark doesn't disappear into the cylinder head without dropping your tools. Saves you a few minutes 😊

Hi AMD also you can turn a teflon tube sleeve with a flange at its end to 112mm exact length and use it as a installation height mark AS Well As hammering block buffer and the cool thing is that you won’t need to worry about wood chips flying around inside the engine. Thank you for not over complicating this! My son is VERY hard on his cars. He learned the hard way by not checking the oil and killed his engine. Toyota sourced a used very low mileage engine that ran him about $5,000 in and out. He complained about it, but Toyota actually gave him the best price.

Sir, you and your team are amazing, most shops and especially dealer service shops would never do this, i would even say that 85% of 'techs' don't know where to start or do this. The ability to build an engine has become specialized. The modern shop philosophy of incentivizing volume of work ensures techs never gain this knowledge.

As a young bloke , I bought a little 289 ford V8 short motor , re manufactured and assembled it in my driveway , back in those days a re manufactured short V8 cost $457.00 + $2.00 for delivery 😊 trade price Australian . I use that same Lisle valve spring retainer tool. Works great on every engine I’ve worked on. I always disassemble new replacement heads and check valves for leaks. Often new aftermarket heads need the valves lapped to seal properly.

You're right about sentimentality and cars. A vehicle is another way to make memories in your life, along of course with going from point A to point B. I like these engine assembly videos. The details involved are many but when that engine starts for the first time, that sense of accomplishment just knowing you did that stays with you for a long time and it feels really good.......till the next job comes in the shop! Looking forward to that first startup. VERY GOOD ONE AHMED!

Hello AMD, I hope you see this! Watching this video reminded me of our old 2011 Camry SE that's been parked for a few months, collecting dust. I suspect the head gasket gave out. I really want to get it fixed, we've had it since new, now has 240k. I'd be willing to make the drive to Chicago just to have you work on it! I'm on the CA coast and car has no rust at all. I think it's worth saving. Maybe I can contact your shop and see if it's possible to squeeze us into your schedule. P.S. I've since purchased a '24 Camry XSE Hybrid for my wife. Thanks to all the videos you've had of your Camry before you sold it, we made the decision to get one as well.

I love these engine build videos! The best part is the final moment and point of no return. Go for main engine start. Contact. 20:18 valves. I watch VGG and a takeaway I have from him telling me about valves is when you hit them, they resonate in the heads making a musical tone. He talks about a different kind of lifter but the concept is the same. The tone should all be the same when it's the same springs keepers and seats. If one sounds different, look why that guy is doing that. I know you know but people who are watching might not all know.

My Toyota mechanic and I recently completed refreshing a low mileage (80k) used 3UR that I purchased from the original owner, this engine replaced my high mileage (315k) 3UR that previous owners ran low on oil a few times, this neglect resulted in multiple problems including head gasket failure. The refreshed engine runs smooth & quiet, and I am enjoying the excellent results.

Oil squirter can is so much easier and doesn’t waste as much oil for bleeding lifters. Just pump it into the oil feed hole. Not that you can’t reuse the oil. Nice work as usual AMD!
