Since many of you suggested that I needed some sawhorses, I asked my Dad to show me how I make his.
If you have any questions regarding the build, then feel free to ask below.
I was also kindly gifted Dickies overalls, boots and goggles to review in a blogpost:

I never had a dad growing up so all the carpentry, welding, painting and music I learned was on my own. Had to give your dad a big thumbs up for raising such a wonderful fun loving daughter. You are so lucky to have him. I hope you tell him every day. Oh btw I love seeing the completion dance. lol Nice to see it again...

A little tip. We usually put a sacrificial piece on 4 x 1 timber or mdf on the top of the saw horses so they are easily replaced rather than making a new top piece! 👍🏼🔨

The Carpenter's Daughter blimey it was about 25 years ago prob Travis Perkins then as most places didn't have online ordering or places we have now lol . I don't recall them being anything special just like big door ones they only opened the top out a few inches as the bottom bit would be wider door and frame method really 👍

Please take a look at your pullover cross cut saw. The blade needs guarding! I can’t see that the saw has extraction which it should have. Hearing protection, too. Exposure to noise has a cumulative effort and you I’ll notice your hearing loss when it’s too late! Not being negative just want you to be safe! Great videos which will encourage many to have a go themselves!

How fun I know you had working with your dad! I have a question....on the table you were using....the one with all the holes in the front of it...does he use that to make dowels? I saw it the last time you were there but I forgot to ask the question. Congrats on getting some good work clothes! Dickies is very popular over here in the states. I don’t wear them but I do wear steel toe boots every time I’m in the shop. One drop of my router on my foot was all that took to get me to wear steel toed boots!
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Becky :) I love my new steel toe caps boots and especially to have an ankle support. They're almost identical to my hiking boots and so much more stylish than my boyish £10 Amazon ones 😂 Definitely a necessity! I dropped a rolling pin on my big toe once from just baking years ago... the air was blue! 🤣 I'm not sure about that door thing. I will ask my Dad as I was rather curious myself at the time. He has tonnes of doors and scraps he doesn't throw away. I will let you know soon 😀

Wow! I definitely don't spend that much time on saw horses. Three pieces to form the top (to form an I-beam) & four legs. The top of the leg is tucked underneath the top horizontal and then over the edge of the bottom horizontal. That forms the leg angle. A few screws to hold the legs in place and I'm good to go. BTW, I consider these to be "throw away". I build a new set at every Habitat house I work on.

WOW! old school saw horses, I'm surprised anyone builds them any more, they just buy folding ones from B&Q, Screwfix or such like. Nice to see, my dad always had a pair. Oh and sorry but last mention of it, (promise) but your dog didn't look to happy and I think that was because you wasn't using the tennis ball technique to hold your top while you were chiselling out the leg slots.

Never hold small pieces of wood near the blade with your hand it can drag your hand in. Always take your time using crosscut and chop saws.

@martinmessiah7130
@martinmessiah7130 4 жыл бұрын
The Carpenter's Daughter Hi I was not referring to you or what you were cutting in the video I was making a general observation on crosscut saws. You use power tools with confidence but the people that watch you may just buy one and go straight in there. I nearly lost my. Hand in my brothers joinery shop 25 years ago . I was cutting wood on one and had never used one before . I wish someone had told me how to use one properly. You have a responsibility to your viewers to give some cautionary guidance.
