Here's my LATEST DIY Walkway gravel path with edging & stepping stones project- kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6XQnqaJYrh1o5Y

So proud of you, I am doing my own walkway as an almost 60 yr. old woman and am glad to have found your blog! I like how you mention all the tiny details...like using the small trowel, long stick the width of the walkway...pvc piping etc...Thank you so much.

LOVE that you say WHY you do certain things. This is so essential for cognition. Your poochie says, "Less work, more ball throwing, ma!"

I absolutely agree. I try to answer all the questions I wondered when learning. Hans ALWAYS wants to play fetch lol.. when I'm at my desk... making... exercising... in the bath.. 😝

I can’t thank you enough for your channel! My partners not the type to do something like this himself so I said I’d give it a go. My dad at one time would have done it for me, but he’s in poor health now so it’s time for me to take care of things myself. Very inspirational.
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK6 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your Dad! Sometimes knowing they're not near by to help, yet you've seen the quality of their work or determination in the past can be inspirational enough. I bet he's going to be proud of you as well :D My fiance would rather pay someone to do it, but I wouldn't have learnt anything otherwise and it was peaceful doing most of it on my own haha! Good luck with yours and let me know how you get on, (and feel free to give me a shout if you have an questions!)

I feel I need to reiterate this for the odd comment coming through. This ABSOLUTELY HAS HARDCORE SUB-BASE UNDERNEATH AND WEED CONTROL and I DO SAY THIS towards the beginning. (You can EVEN SEE IT AT THE START!!!) Why is this not part of the video? Because I didn't think a year or two before finishing it that I was going to pick up a camera and start my own KZbin channel.

The aggregate you mention - is the grey stones / rubble you can see under where you place the patio? We've just ripped up our decking and have what looks very similar but mixed with a bit of sludge from over the years! We've dug down a few inches and there is no change so hoping we can remove a layer for damp course height, whack and then place the sand on top. You are an inspiration - we've just had a quote of £2.4k for ours!

Because of the lock down due to the virus, after watching your video, I've actually gone into my garden first time ever and starting some basic gardening, it's a such a good feeling.

Young Lady, You are on Your way. I have always treasured the times my daughter helped me but she is now gone but You are on Your way. I have a small enough job now but am old and do not hurry any more. A Perfectionist like You would give me tips and tell me when I am wrong. I would take it on board but than just say "it will do me". You are fine! I respect You!

I found what you have done inspirational and a driver for me to get on with laying my patio slabs I bought 3-years ago. The biggest headache for me was the planning around ordering material and the quantity. Your video breaks the job down into a number of tasks and none are really to big for one person. Just need to eat well to keep the energy up. I plan to start and finish this Easter weekend. Thanks for the motivation 👍😃

Thankyou you ‘ve given me the confidence to do this myself especially as you have enlightened me that I don’t need mortar now , I need to do this before I get my shed and base on it and just split up with my boyfriend who was gonna do it and as a single mum I get daunted by this stuff and the price quotes from the geezers I ask ( fab as they are ) . I really need a shed this was just what I needed and proved I can do it as a woman just go for it thanks !
@TheCarpentersDaughterUK2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your break up! You can absolutely do it! A nice thick slab is perfect for the sand method and it's a very forgiving method, giving you lots of time to get things right without having to worry any mortar will go off. You could probably just use a tamper by hand without having to hire the plate compactor.

Just been recommended your channel. We bought our first home last summer and spent all our money doing up the inside, so have very limited funds to do the front and back gardens. We've just done the front (old pea shingle/cat litter), put in a flower bed and covered the rest in slate, and this weekend I'm laying a red brick patio, by myself, in the back. We were quoted 2.6k for a 3mx3m area! Aside from the manual labour (a weekend of shifting earth and this weekend to lay), it's costing just shy of £400 - part of that is because I didn't have the right tools so needed to buy them. Thank you for giving me the confidence to give it a go myself. The arrival of the bricks and sand was a bit daunting i'll admit 😅

Brilliant and inspiring, well done you! I'm desperate to get a porcelain tile patio laid, my garden has no seating area at all, but I've been quoted a whopping £4000 for the job! So I should do what you've done, but unlike you, I dont know anyone in the construction business to advise me, nor have I done any DIY myself. And I know porcelain tiles are much thinner than the slabs you laid, so I dont know how the process would differ. But you've got my mind ticking now.

Nice job. A lot of people use a 3-4-5 triangle method to square large areas. Any combination of 3 and 4 units of length on the corner legs will have a diagonal of 5 units when square. You can even do it with a 1 unit stick and no measuring tape.

You're very welcome :) If it's a single walkway without say a path edging, or pea gravel to stop them from moving, then you might find using mortar is better option as I later did for my front door step: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnaziK2ma6d5gKM It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, but you will definitely need to wear plenty of protection as mortar burns until it sets. Good luck :) x
