I live about 10 minutes from the amusement park. The best time to go is night time because of all the lights. We love to just drive over there and just watch people on the rides. If my memory is correct, that place where they had the tables to get out of the sun used to be an arcade. I learnsd something today: No single riders on ferris wheels.
@torritojolambert13275 ай бұрын
Used to always visit couple times every summer as a kid while my mom and grandma hit the bingo stand and my bro and I would play at the arcade until closing. This was in the 70s & early 80s. The Magic Attic and boardwalk was awesome along with the Bowery and Peaches Corner ...man I wish I could go back for awhile ....things have changed so just be safe and be aware of your surroundings after dark ...enjoy traveling with you over the last few years and know we all appreciate what you do. I went to the state park which is down towards Pawleys Island. It has trails and beautiful views too. Take care from a friend and fan from VA😊❤

I haven’t been to Family kingdom in years. My kids used to love that Pistolero Roundup ride when they were little and I remember just how bumpy the swamp fox is from the many times I’ve ridden it with them. I don’t remember there being any other dark rides at Family Kingdom in the past. I wish more parks had them. I used to love the haunted hotel one down at the Pavilion when it was still in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach resident here and once upon a time, in 2009/2010 ride operator of Family Kingdom. I got the chance to learn the Swamp Fox and it is an amazing ride for it being as old as it is. But it is also a very rough roller coaster...rough enough i have had a few pairs of shorts get destroyed from bumping and moving around aggressively. I also had the opportunity to learn the 2 go cart tracks, Galleon, the Ferris Wheel, Scrambler and Slingshot. The reason theres no single rider for ferris wheels is because of weight balancing. You could essentially ride it, but you would have to be paired with other people, also if they were ok wiht that as well.

Looks like you got some good airtime on Swamp Fox. We rode it back in 2012 prior to an ACE convention. I got to know the man who was in charge of the coaster’s big renovation project after Hugo damaged the area. He was so proud of the work he had done. He also did a five year major renovation on our wooden Classic Coaster that operates at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup, Washington. He would let me in on site during the off fair season to follow the project. He passed away a few years ago so every time I see the Swamp Fox I think of him.

@johnchambers85285 ай бұрын
I noticed your first ride on the Swamp Fox was in the rear. I have ridden many different wooden coasters and always avoid the rear. I always find that the rear cars usually give you the roughest ride and the front the smoothest. Most likely due to the rear cars being pulled the hardest from the energy of the forward cars. The full weight of the train is throwing you around. But is is good to ride in different cars if you ride several times as you can get a different ride experience depending on where you sit in the train.
@micoasters5 ай бұрын
@@johnchambers8528it’s actually because the back row is usually on a wheel, so that’s why it’s rougher
@jeremysutherlin38034 ай бұрын
@@micoasters It's because the back of the train experiences increased acceleration over hills and around turns, stronger forces of inertia, but if the coaster is the kind where the rear car is on wheels then it's both. Not all coasters have the same track system, but you'll almost always feel like you're moving faster if you take the back car.
@thetachiban574 ай бұрын
@@jeremysutherlin3803 Yep, that and wooden coasters will always be a bumpier ride than steel. Wood has imperfections, grain, it expands and contracts from temp and humidity, so you'll just get shaken around a little more than on a steel coaster. I hope we don't lose our old masterpiece wooden coasters. I'm a fan of wood coasters but they're getting more and more expensive to maintain.
