Loved this..... perhaps a few corrections though the sky ride was at Brackenridge Park, but the area where they are displayed now is Hemifair Park..... fun fact btw for the 1968 fair there was a monorail built for the fair..... sadly by my childhood in the 1980's it was no longer there..... but you could have avoided all that construction heading to the tower by taking the river through the convention center..... kinda tricky if you don't know the area, but still a fun time.... wish La Villita could have been shown though..... next time you come down to reexperience the Buckhorn I would recommend grabbing the city bus out to Brackenridge Park and checking out the Zoo, the Japanese Tea Gardens and the Brackenridge Park Train..... also would love to see footage of the original Amtrak station in San Antonio...... right next to the modern much smaller station.....

Fun fact @39:57 mark. The Saltgrass Steakhouse is located in the historic Casino Building. Before it became a historical landmark, my neighbor, Bob Brenner, leased the 1st and 2nd floor and operated Club Aquarius in the late 1960s to around 1974. They had an apartment plus storage space on the second floor. They owned a house off of Vance Jackson (Dellview area). I used to play along with my friend Mark Brenner on second floor terrace. We used to grab roof pebbles next to the terrace and drop them on unsuspecting tourists. Our favorite target was hitting the hats of the Park Rangers.

Those sky-ride cars bring back memories of my childhood. They used to take you from the San Antonio Zoo to the Japanese Tea Gardens. If you get back and get a chance, take the Riverwalk north to the Pearl area. Also, in San Antonio make sure you call it Queso, not nacho cheese haha. Not sure how hard they are to find, but if you get a chance to try a puffy taco, they are my favorite San Antonio tacos.

In the US, it is common that a fire department might be called for medical emergencies, especially in rural areas, due to disinvestment of hospitals and other medical care in those areas. This is also why Fire trucks often look they way they do here vs a European or Japanese one

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you can never evoke the Euem Rule too much for me, and that one was a corker. The Buckhorn was fascinating, but I was wondering if it's somehow connected to the Buckhorn in Denver? Also, the Barnacle Buck did things to my intrusive thoughts that you just don't want to know about.

The sky cars you saw are not located in Brackenridge Park. They used to be in Brackenridge Park, near the San Antonio Zoo. You were in the area of La Villita Park and King William District when you saw them in this video.
@TheCarpetbagger5 сағат бұрын
Ah, thank you, was trying to figure it out on the fly
@christopherrosas27383 сағат бұрын
@TheCarpetbagger actually it's Hemisfair Park where they are located.... La Villita is the area you passed through from the river to get to the main street there..... but another fun fact about that area is that is where the original arena that the Spurs played at was located..... check out Hemisfair Arena.... it came down in the 90's and then they built the Alamo Dome.....

6:30 The correct term is fire wagon. Back then, volunteer fire department meant ever able bodied person to pull the wagon to the fire and then use the buckets and ladders. 6:54 Fire engines with a steam pump for water required a 3 man crew (minimum), one to stoke the coal (coal quickly creates a cool exterior and burns inside), one to tend to the horses (horses are spooked by fire and will run) and one hose man. "Steamers" came about in 1914 when an internal combustion engine replaced horses. Fire departments kept steamers in service until the 1930's when fire trucks (or apparatus) replaced fire engines. 7:22 An early ladder truck, called "hook and ladders" for obvious reasons. The term actually was in use until the 1970's (even though hydraulics in the 1950's replaced a number of functions of the hook and ladder).
