The '2 styles or less' tip is so true, I used to juggle between different styles and eventually ended up with a wardrobe with zero cohesion. Now I only go for y-3 / ricks styles and now I can make fits for any occasion without feeling like throwing my brain into a blender each time.

This is such a great video. Recently I've been questioning why I dress the way I do or the way I wanna dress, and it relates to a lot of the points you make. Outflexing peers, the desire to stand out so somebody feels I'm different and cool etc... wishing to express yourself through fabric can sometimes get you lost in the sauce I feel. As an artist, I absolutely adore the broader artform of fashion and am greatly influenced by it, but as a person, idk mane, its a lot more fitting to my true self to let go of this pursuit of standing out from the crowd. After all, every one of us is unique to begin with and our fashion sense shouldn't be a dividing line between whether were interesting or boring, rather a little snippet into the lives we lead. Separating these two artist and regular person perspectives has really opened my eyes to what fashion actually means for me. This concept of genuine expression through clothes is pretty complex so imma keep it short for the comments. banger video chief and thanks 4 coming to my ted talk

I never dress for others. For a period I liked tee and jeans. The BF at the time asked me one time why I didn’t wear feminine clothes. I laughed, didn’t take heart. Soon he left me and got married 6 months later to someone from his work place. I saw her one time at another friend’s wedding. She was indeed very feminine. From grapevine 15 years later I was told he’s divorced. I am sure how I dressed was not the only reason he preferred his coworker. Even if I changed my outfit to be girly, he’d still go for the coworker. I am retired and live in an old folks community. I still dress to please myself including premium jeans and lots of linen dresses for summer.

I always wear sandals with socks lol😅😅 Never have enough money to enable me fit into the fashion zeitgeist and trendy style is blessing in disguise. It forces me to always have strict budget for fashion that I love. Never have privilege to do trial and error in fashion makes me more mindful about my decision.

Wear what looks good on you and by that I mean incorporate items you would usually not go for or that are not particularly your style but look 💣 on you. It can do wonders for the development of a very personal and creative style as well. If there is a trendy item out like a sneaker you like, explore other not trendy options by that brand, so you don't run around with what everybody else wears. ✌🏼✨

appreciative of the more nuanced take, especially the final one. feel free to watch and take in these self-help videos, but if you understand and are confident in yourself then you won't really need them. i like to think i've carved out my own style at this point, but i still enjoy hearing and learning from others even if our views don't always line up. though i've definitely had to unfollow other content creators for continuously putting out boring and bland content, so thank you for always being so well-versed and having high production values in your vids

Most of my friends were made bc we were not the norm via music and fashion. And these two, most of the time, coincided. A bunch of black outcasts who listened to rap, rock and abstract music and dressed non conventionally. We made our own rules. I was blessed. BTW who's talkn smack abt Reggie's wardrobe? You're right about you do you. When I was a teenager I love looking like I was going to a funeral every time going out, going to gigs, clubs, etc. Then I realize something, I was a punk rocker but the color that I chose to wear was the same as everyone else, all black or the occasional blue jeans(dark), so I thought to myself, what's so punk about uniformity? From that day onwards, I wear bright colors, pink "Thrasher" shirt to a grind-core gig(I stood out but I feel more punk than others that day), baby blue shirt to a funeral, red chinos, yellow smiley shirt & green/orange converse and I've never feel to free in my style ever. Friends said that I always look loud when we're going out (can feel the jealousy) and they don't dare to wear something remotely close to what I wear and tell me I'm brave, I just tell them "I'm just wearing these clothes so that if there's an accident, you guy can identify my body easily"

You should already know that I’m a bit “different”. Sock and sandals are quite popular in Japan. Been that way since they were wearing kimonos every day. But it’s still a fashion taboo in many western countries which is why we chose that exact image. I haven’t worn socks and sandals in public though, despite me not minding either way.

Love the vid! But I do want to point out that dressing for your body type can acutally be a bad tip. Because that will make you conforming to the same generic bubble you're trying to pop. Case in point, I love that you're style is heavily influenced by japanese philosophy, but your body type is nowhere near a typical japanese body. and I don't think that stopped you from dressing like them right? Wear what you want but make it work for you also, otherwise we would just be slave to our body types and not what we really desire to wear.
@THECASUALco
@THECASUALco Жыл бұрын
Actually dressing your body type doesn’t mean you have to conform to a specific style it simply means if you do decided to dress a particular way consider your body type. For example I am NOT a skinny body type like Japanese, I have broader shoulders, and an athletic build. So I tailor my Japanese clothing to fit MY body type. I crop the hems, taper my trousers, cinch my waist bands, insure my shoulder lines aren’t to dropped or my sleeves are too long or wide. You know what’s crazy about all that? Japanese people do it too! That’s why there are so many tailors and seamstresses in Japan. It’s not about being a slave to your body it’s about being intentional. The ONLY thing I really adopted from the Japanese is that very thing. Being INTENTIONAL, which is why it seems like they dress so impeccably well. Point? You can choose ANY style, but make sure it’s flattering on you because you can make it look EVEN BETTER.

Not cancelling, but dang, Reggie really entering that crotchety old man, can't keep up with the kids these days era with aplomb. That said, I do think that style content that doesn't amount to current trends or buying xyz are often valuable even if it's not for you since it gives an idea of what to consider.

I’m surrounded by younger people all the damn time. I have to be. It’s literally my day job to know, in fashion, what’s in and not. If sarcastically making a joke about “cancelling” or anything for that matter makes me “crotchety” then I’ll take it. Recently a lot of cats been sticking the knife in my direction for no reason. Kinda crazy to think about.
