Nice review Sam. I especially like your easy to understand English, well articulated and not too fast. Could you enlighten me about the Seiko VH31 Mecaquartz that is in the other Skindiver? Thanks.
@CasualWatchReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hans, yes, I can give an opinion on it for sure. The VH31 is a 3 hand movement where the second hand looks similar to a mechanical watch with a sweep more than a tick. I actually think this is one of the rare 'acceptable' uses for Meca quartz. I think the overuse of the VK64 in modern watches needs to end. The VK64 is a bi-compax chronograph movement. The main issue for me is it has no running seconds, the watch looks dead the majority of the time. The tradeoff to have a sweeping chronograph seconds is far from worth it. Also the VK64 has a completely useless 24 hour dial. I wear a seiko speedtimer now that has a mecha quartz movement but with running seconds, it still has the 24 hour dial which I still think is completely useless. The Wolbrook with the mecha quartz is slightly thinner, for me this cause the crown to dig into my wrist. I ended up wearing it on a nato but ultimately sold it as I love watches with the data complication.

The unidirectional rotor is actually the main reason why they can make the movement thinner... I don't own a Miyota of any kind, but they reputedly have better acuuracy than the comparable Seiko/SII. Fitting another movement wil prove to be very tricky, because these cases in general are designed around specific movements. I suspect some prcise advanced tooling will be required for such an undertaking. Please keep us posted on the enterprise.
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, I think I could have lived with the rotor sounding like a bag of wrenches being thrown down a staircase if the movement had hacking. Yes your right we will be replacing the movement with either an ETA clone or an 9015 clone. will do a full upload. A seiko NH35a would be too thick

I think they did a great job recreating the original without ruining the watch, at first I was bitchin about the 40mm vs 36 or what was the original but 40mm is still ok, now 42mm as Glashutte SeaQ would be a bit much for a relatively thin skindiver. Great review!

Nice watch and review Sam! The Miyota 8200 series movement can be loud depending on the case it is put in but the four I have owned have all run consistently within COSC which makes the noise forgivable for me. The Miyota 9015 movement is a much better movement running at 28,800 vph and is basically silent. I think the hands on the Wolbrook would fit on this movement and make it the watch it should have been to start with.

Love your review, really I do, as a reviewer your honest appraisal of watches gives us, the viewer an opportunity to make a decision on pulling the trigger on such watches, I’ve watch this review 3 times and initially your review turned me of purchasing this watch. Your watch as you state runs the Miyota 8215, extremely noisy and no second hand hacking, I went to the Wolbrook site and the all blue version which is the model I want/wanted, well you can purchase it with the Miyota 8315 with a 60hr power reserve and a seconds hand hacking, maybe this was not an option when you backed and ordered yours, my question to you is what’s your knowledge of the 8315, is it as noisy as the 8215, could you possibly do a follow up vid pointing out the difference between the two movements. Cheers and regards sir. 👌👌

That’s really unfortunate. It’s a very nice watch. However, the movement is too low end for the rest of the watch. The lack of hacking at this price would be a deal breaker for me. This is grossly incorrect. Neil Armstrong's Omega DID NOT fail during the moon landing. The Lunar Excursion Module's (LEM) clock failed upon Landin on the lunar surface. Armstrong left his Speedy in the module to work as LEM's timekeeping device. Armstrong put on Aldrin's watch for his moonwalk. Thus, it was Aldrin's watch, not Armstrong's, that was the first watch worn on the moon. Aldrin's watch was later lost or stolen when it was being shipped back to NASA after the mission. It has never been found.
