Yes! I moved a few months ago with my girl. She was fine once we were in the new house, and she got used to the new house really fast. But cars and especially being in a cage terrify her. She threw up on the car ride, and was crying and whining in misery the whole time. I've tried everything I know, but she just hates cars and cages no matter what I do. Her previous home was abusive, so I think she might have had a traumatic travel experience with them.

@Memow-pk1ng3 жыл бұрын
21 yr olds!!! You must've provided good care. .. not only good food, but vaccinations, no fleas, as they get tapeworm from fleas. But like ppl. , some get diseases, cancer & have short life & & others have long life , heritage, is a factor I have now left 2 females, 13, 15 , are in great shape 8yr old male & my old orange tabby, that found his way to our doorstep 18 yrs ago, on Holloween, named him Pumpkin. He s very thin, lost lot of his hair, has arthritis, walks slow , doesn't like being touched or petted, especially the feet. I used to clip the nails easily, now will bite. I give him joint pain , glucosamine, & lick off paste for calming. He eats. , often , in small amounts When I put food down, he likes Fancy Feast, dry & can, he stares at it , like lost smell, has no cataracts , so I know he can see.. so I pick up dish. & he smells & then will eat. It's important to keep schedule, like ppl. need to eat , sleep same time. Their system gets used to. routine 11am is when get their canned, & be waiting at their places, except my 8yr old, part Maine c, is 18 lbs., & a pest. if goes over feeding time. Had a Siamese live be 21, but. is in that breeds nature to live long. As I said , need routine, may need different diet , older get bad teeth , & may not chew kibble, ... & may prefer different flavors,.. Pumpkin prefers seafood..

I can't believe my two little kitten brothers are turning two years in a month, they grow up so fast! I adopted them when they were 16 weeks old and since day one I have followed a strict play and feeding routine: 6 am: breakfast 12 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by lunch 6 pm: play for at least 10 minutes followed by dinner 10 pm: small snack before bed so they sleep all night (and they do) I have done this every day and my my my what loving cats these two have turned out to be. I am so proud of being a cat mom to them and I feel so privileged to care for them. Also, a fun thing with this play + feed structure is that when it is time to eat they go to the wardrobe were I keep the toys and start yelling at me for not playing with them (yet) instead of going to the kitchen were the food is... They know it so well that first you hunt, then you eat! Thank you Jackson for sharing your knowledge about cats to all of us! @@rebeccagoodridge1626 Exactly. My husband and I can't structure our whole lives around our cats, and we don't believe that cats need to have every minute of their lives structured by us either. Of course there are exceptions; our oldest cat (14) has a tumor on his spine so we make sure between the two of us that he gets his scheduled twice-daily medication, and every extra treatment or attention he needs (grooming him because he's limited in how much he can groom himself, hospital and vet visits for tests, etc.). There's a difference between caring for your pets and your life revolving around them, and there are plenty of cats living long, happy and healthy lives with busy/shift working/disabled owners. Thanks, Jackson. My rescue cat is a little over 17 years now and has slowed down. while I have played with her, I never pushed the play cycle as you've suggested. I found you more recently and the patterns are now set. She and her adopted sister (now gone) always demanded free-style eating. It didn't (doesn't) matter how much or how little I put down for them, they always leave some for "tomorrow" though they've never missed a meal either. I now weigh their food before and after and the difference varies. Most food is eaten after (my) bedtime. I also weigh her at least once a week and it varies too, but not much. For future subjects, I'd appreciate improving her car travel. She loves her crate but despises the car - with a persistent, horrific, yowling for the entire journey - sometimes two hours worth! I've tried quite few things. It no longer matters as much now that I'm no longer traveling, but I'd still be interested. The second subject I'd appreciate deals with kidney failure and how to improve life in that stage. Thanks much.

My 2 girls are 6yo, nearly 7. I rescued them back 2015. When they were indoor(night)/outdoor(day) cats I started the routine of dry food in the morning and then wet food at night as an enticement to come inside. For the last 3 yrs, after we moved States, they became indoor cats only due to my wanting to protect the natural wildlife. The food routine has stayed the same, but they are given less food. Initially, I was giving them the same, but my ginger girl was putting on weight - she's a grazer. For the last few months, since I reduced the food portions, she's become more active and more affectionate. My grey & white girl has always "owned" me, but now that my son is grown and moved out, she's had to share me with my ginger. Most nights find me either flanked by the girls or covered by them. I love it.

I'm really looking forward to the video on seniors and super seniors! We have a 16 year old cat who we love dearly and want to give him the best quality of life he can possibly get, but he's still experiencing some difficulties (arthritis, tooth/gum issues, irritability, etc)

Hi Jackson! This video is extremely helpful, I'll definitely come back to this one as my cat's life stages go by, just to make sure I'll be doing what's best for my feline friend 🙂 I have a European Shorthair of 11 months old. She is the EQUIVALENT of Sonic the Hedgehog in the morning. Got her from a highschool friend. Let me tell you, this cat saved my life. If it weren't for her, I probably still would've been stuck in my depression. I dread the day where my little Sonic the Hedgehog copy will be less and less active (let's hope she has that Peter Pan Syndrome 🤣). Not only does she give my household new life, she gives me life as well. Anyway, keep rocking! 😁

8:52. DAMN YOU Jack Galaxy in a good way. Because of your wisdom and cat knowledge, I just now moved my cat tree that was several ft away from my window to now just hugging next to the window. Now my cats are chasing each other again with the zoomies lol. Thank you :)

My cat will be 8yo in a few months. I adopted her 5-6 years ago. She has slowed down her zooming, yet still has the road runner/speedyGonzales syndrome. We play every morning and evening before I go to bed…sometimes in the afternoon. I feed 4 times a day 1/8th cup each time. She has never eaten human food nor canned food, she refuses.

You have great videos on cat introductions. Would you consider one on introducing them to other humans? I’d love our new boy to be less afraid when we have visitors to the house. We are having them sit on the floor and chat quietly with us but if our boy flood Finnegan comes out, they can feed him one of those liquid treat tubes to hopefully give him a positive experience. Thanks again for all you do. Your videos have really helped me learn how to give the boy a good home and setting him up for success coming from a dog only background. He’s only been with us a week but yesterday he even let me clip his nails! I only did a few as I didn’t want to push it but I was thrilled how calm and trusting he was. I also understand how much he likes to get high up and more vertical catification is on the way. :)

My cat was always a snuggle bug, but as she gets older; if you forget to say hi in the morning or after work she'll ignore you for a whole day and then the next she'll throw a hissy fit if she doesn't get cuddled immediately. Her personality is absolutely adorable

can't wait for your senior cat commentary, as living with one, so blessed. my companion is 17 plus as came to us already an adult. Lady as I call her in my language, is annoyed these days as used to living between my flat and my mum's, these days she is no longer wanting to go to my mum and dad's and it breaks their hearts. I suspect the problem is feeding other cats on the ledge of my mum's flat and the invasion of privacy involved. First and foremost lots of strays/ outdoor cats in my country and so we can not not feed the strays as we have been doing it for decades long before Lady come along and made her home with us and the cats come to us starving and they are ever growing in number, the only thing we can do for them is to neuter them but people keep bringing their unwanted pets :(( to our complex buildings where they know they are safe and fed. what can I do to relieve my baby's misery and keep her from abandoning her territory altogether? please help.

For my 7 year old we mix a few different cat foods for him and he loves all of them he's not completely on wet food because my vet thinks that the dry food helps his teeth but he definitely gets more wet food then dry and with the wet food I have this meal plan where I give him a different type every day so he never gets bored with his wet food and never gets the same type two days in a row.

My cat is now 9. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. Now before people get mad we tried for 3 years to make home an indoor cat. We got him at 6 months. His name is Calvin but should have been Houdini. He can open our windows and the screens. He can unlock doors and open them. We could not keep him in. He wears a tracking collar at all times. We have tried so many toys and even a really nice cat tree. He never wanted anything to do with any of it. He would look at the toy and then look at us as if we were nuts. He never used the cat tree at all. Now that he is 9 he is starting to slow down. He goes out but returns at certain times and comes in for breakfast at 9 and has a nap. Goes out at 1 until 4 and comes in for supper. He is a good weight but he is definitely slowing down. He now never climbed the big wood fence but will go by way of the chain link fence that is on the one side. He is also agreeable to staying in for his nap and bedtime. He is never out after 4 pm now. He is not at all a cuddly cat but is now wanting more petting than ever. He now has routines that he follows and you had better make sure you take care of them such as meal times.

Meow. My name is Jolly and I'm 6. I'm stuck eatin' the same old grub. I know it's healthy and I have a small amount of a good dry mix each day in my bowl and that's cool 'cause I don't want to see the dentist. Every day at 4:00 pm I eat about a 1/4th can of wet food and I usually don't finish that. My mom and dad wants to try something new but I don't. Mom's tried lots of things but I just turn my nose up them and walk away indignantly. Please, cat man! What can I do?

I so much enjoyed today's video. My Ginger died recently at 20, two years after her life partner, Freddie. I have just gotten two new shelter cats, both beautiful and both about 4 years old. And I am having to learn that they are not super senior and have different wants and needs. I have made some climbing structures for them and pretty soon I am hoping to move to an enormously large place where I can properly catify it. But especially in the meantime, thanks again for the advice.

I really need to play with my cat more. I used to play with her all day every day and since I've been depressed Ive found myself just making sure she has food and water and spending all day in my bed in the dark. She's so sweet she cuddles with me all day but I know it's not good for her. I'm gonna try harder for her sake. One thing that I do manage to do is I break her (small) treats in half and throw them down the stairs so that she runs down after them and I don't throw another one unless she comes all the way back up the stairs.

Put a portable toy like the cat dancer in your nightstand, you can have play time in bed :) I do the same when I'm really down. With wire type toys like that it's a bit easier because you don't even have to move much to make it interesting for your cat. My cats also love me throwing them some kitty boinks (google it) or little plastic spirals, the spirals are an all time favorite, even when all other toys become boring.

My cat is about 4 yrs old. We have a feeding and play routine. She lives for it. She cries snd reminds me how much she needs it. I got her less than a year ago as a rescue so I’m in the process of making a play/cat run/ climbing area. She loves it and lives to play on it all day but especially before feeding time. I hope she stays healthy and always want to play

I’m a hunter, so I save all the tidbits (healthy organs, meat trimmings, shank meat with sinew, bloodshot meat, etc) and freeze them in 1lb bags for him. Anything contaminated with gut contents or metal fragments is discarded, but thankfully it’s not very common for me. I have my cat on a high quality grain free kibble diet, which is nutritionally complete. He gets a mouse-sized chunk of lean raw venison every evening ads treat. When he’s shedding and growing in a new coat, I double the amount of raw meat- growing fur takes lots of quality protein. I have had him on this diet for the six years I have had him. His coat is luxurious, he’s bright eyed and full of energy, his poops are dense and they don’t REEK, and he’s vomited (including hair balls) a grand total of 7 times. Seven times over six YEARS is frickin incredible for a cat! BTW the long bones, ribs, spine etc I give to a friend whose dogs are on the BARF diet, and I tan the hides into leather. I try to use every part of the animal for something, and minimize waste.

I have 3 cats, and 2 were found on the street. My mainecoon (we think) is the most "aggressive" cat, and is on a kill list at the shelter. The only reason we have him is because I begged to go get him, and now that I watch your videos I finally understand some of his behaviors, like biting us when we pet his back. I always ask to pet him by putting my hand to his nose and letting him decide what to do. I also recently started walking him outside. He definitely has began to trust me more, and everyone else just says he's mean or moody but I tell them they just aren't listening to him. You've inspired me to try and work with cats from shelters to become adoptable.

My Ragdoll is almost 19!!! He will not eat any wet food what so ever. In fact he's under weight. He eats only 2 kinds of dry food, Z/D Diet dry food from Hills science diet & a kitten & adult dry food. He only will drink his water from his fountain only if ice added!!! HES STILL ACTIVE . Jumping onto bed and up on a perch to watch the window bird feeder!

Interesting. As a kitten, my little boy was learning to understand me. Now, I'm learning to understand him. He has a box that he made into a playhouse in my kitchen. It collapsed and I didn't notice it. He went next to it and called me over and I told him I'm not coming to the other side of the room. He then, stood on top of the collapsed box and called me. It was then I realized he just wanted me to reset his box up for him. I just fixed it for him and he's a happy little camper.

Feeding our 5 month old kitten Lotus frozen food. It comes in chicken, venison, beef, lamb, pork, and turkey. He seems to like everything but the pork. He would love dry kibbles, but trying not to let him get used to it. Last night we visited friends, and he ate dry dog food. Tyring to do the right thins.

I am grappling with my 15 & 16 year old "babies"❤️ CKD with the older one and hyperthyroid with the other. I have a vet that comes to my house $$$ and I am doing everything I can to care for them including meds every 12 hours. Sometimes I get anxious and I'll admit frustrated because now I'm not allowed to be away, and I work 10 hour shifts a few days a week. At times It has been very emotional & frustrating trying to understand what they need. I am adapting to their needs & I love caring for them. it's heartbreaking to see the aging process happen. The money on food and litter alone 😭 I absolutely love them unconditionally. We have had many life times together. I keep them active with catnip, and toys and really try to understand and nurture this new very needy stage in their elderly life ❤️
