So, "would you like it if you were on your way to the bathroom and someone picked you up and carried you to the living room to hug you?" Or "would you like it if someone got right up in your face with a toy?" Chances are, if YOU wouldn't like it, your cat sure as he'll isn't going to like it! Respect is really all it boils down to. Yup. I respect my cat's autonomy for the most part, and make her respect mine as well. For instance if she doesn't want to be picked up, she doesn't get picked up. Likewise if I don't want her on my lap, she's not going to be able to "force" her way on my lap. She can sleep/sit anywhere, but knows that 2 places are mine first and foremost. Them being my bed and my desk chair at my pc. (She sometimes tests me on this but I stay consistent and will be a bit forceful if she won't move from these 2 spots. :p) Whenever I need her to move from a spot or my lap I always pet her a little first so she can wake up in a nice way before having to get up. (It's gotten to the point where she gets up herself without me having to move her) I also let her in and out pretty much whenever she wants, the exception being when it's too cold at night and I won't hear her wanting to come in when sleeping. Lastly I try to give her consistency. As in her wet food meals always come at the same time, +/- 20 minutes at most.

my sister adopted a cat a few weeks ago. cat had a weird habit of tucking himself in her clothes. caught him tangled up in a shirt and walking around. i ordered a cape made for cats for like halloween or something for him just cause i thought it would be cute- this cat won't let her take it off. he runs away and hides if she tugs the cape up over his head. mom thought he would like to wear a sweater cause he loves the cape- nope! did not have fun! glaring around the room, wouldn't move, tail doing that over stimulated twitching. tldr: some cats like clothes, some hate it, some are dramatic and only like capes.

I'm a truck driver, my little munchkin kitty nightshade loves riding in the 18 wheeler with me. She was a rescue at 6 weeks old. And I acclimated her to it when she was young. She doesn't mind riding because she isn't crated, she just lounges on the floor, or the seat. If in the rig on the bed😂😂
@LiathsVibes2 ай бұрын
A year later, but I loved your comment! One and only reason I considered working as a cross-country delivery driver was the thought of having a pet side-kick for the journey lol Also, totally agree with the not-crating part. I understand the general need for a crate, and will have one in the car with me, but I've never liked the idea of making them stay in it for the drive and felt it would probably be less anxiety-inducing if they had the ability to navigate/investigate what's going on around them; if they wanted.
@LiathsVibes2 ай бұрын
My first cat always rode freely in the car. At first his favorite spot was in my lap; uncomfortable environment but direct contact to something/one familiar and safe. Once he got comfortable enough to actually nap while we drove, he began to explore the passenger seats and backseat floors (had pre-blocked off ways he could get to the driver floor). Then his new favorite spot was to lie across my shoulders while looking out the front windows; became familiar with the inside so now to understand whats going on outside. And ultimately he claimed the back window as HIS space; lounging out under the sun and either napping or empirically staring down the cars behind me lol got to the point that he'd sprint across the yard to join me getting in my car
@ashleytaylor62642 ай бұрын
@LiathsVibes honestly, my munchkin nightshade doesn't do well with the crate. It makes her anxiety go through the roof. She is much more comfortable freely moving. Now I do have a small thing I call a bag crate. It's just her backpack that she gets in for walks outside the truck. If it's bad weather or what not, she will go in it by herself. Bit she is Nightshade, the trucking kitty.🤣

My really old small dog was raised with cats that were particularly mean to him. Now years later I adopt a kitten that was in horrible shape and rehabbed in a home with small dogs that played and cuddled with them. In all irony the dog is afraid of the kitten but the kitten is gently winning him over by coming up to sniff him, rub on him, and sleep next to him. It feels like a great example of a dog that respects the cat's space being the perfect companion for this kitten... and the kitten is helping the old dog feel less alone and sleep better.

I sort of had a cat like that as a kid. He was a huge male unaltered orange tomcat. He was an outdoor cat that was originally the neighbor's, but the neighbor moved and left hm behind. We were poor and didn't have the money to have him neutered and he sprayed so we didn't take him in, but we did feed him on our front porch. But he *loved* getting into our big Ford sedan and put his back legs on the bench seat (remember those?) and his front legs on the dash, and take rides around the block, watching the world go by through the windshield and windows. We'd get in the car and pat the seat and he'd bound in and put himself in his position. We moved, and another neighbor fed him until finding a home for him. He's long dead now of course, but he was one cool cat.

My cat loves the car. He's 23 and goes everywhere with us. For long journeys we drop the back seats, put his bed in the back, food and water, and his tray. It's like turning the car into a cat motorhome. He especially likes watching the world go by out of the window and coming to the divider to tell us when he's done a poo and would like his tray emptied. He also likes new destinations which some people say is odd for a cat. If we go on holiday we take all of his stuff with us (he's indoorsy now cos of his age and complete deafness) and we always choose places to rent that will allow him to stay. Then when we get there we set him up like at home, with his usual toys and blankets so everything smells familiar, and he just wanders around scent marking things with his face and then finds himself a spot to sleep or request a belly rub.

I couldn't believe how much happier they were, immediately, even with 40 cows and calves like 10' away (and 5 dogs and 4 chickens roaming freely). Eight months later, we moved to a new farm, this one just vegetables, no cows, and it was the same thing. They would angry-meow at me when I wouldn't open the door for them. They never go very far, or for too long. They just really seem to love taking it all in, and whenever we set up in a new spot, they're as eager as I am to check it all out. Never freaked out or anxious. It's great.

When I got back, he seemed all right, and then I noticed it. I had CLOSED the door to the litter box when I left two days ago! Hey! It's on me, and wherever he went, it was entirely on me. Nothing, I couldn't find anything. No pee, no poop...nothing to be seen. A few days later, I figured it out, he had been using the corn plant and the soil around it. That is too bad about the loss of your kitty. I am sorry. But yeah, cats will usually try to find a place to do their business, when a litter box is not around, that is away from activity, and is isolated. The first few hours that I had my cat Frisky, I was out getting the litter box. When I returned home, he immediately lead me to an open, walk in closet in my room. He had done his business in one of my girlfriends shoes. I was literally cracking up. My girl friend, not so much. But, she actually did eventually find the humor, in Frisky's actions. And, three years later, Frisky was mad at my GF for some reason, he returned to that same shoe, and pooped in it, again. She deserved it, that time...

Found a little dirt on the floor from a plant hanging from the tall ceiling, which was way up there - yep, they found the cat somehow got up in the hanging plant and did her business, and yep the plant died. They never figured out how she got up there. Poor desperate cat. Lol. On the other hand, my mom's cat would go in the dirty clothes hamper. I have two litter boxes as I have two cats. I also have someone pet sit them if I'm gone more than overnight and have them get to know my cats first. Jackson, in 2010 my wife and I moved from Southern California to Alexandria, Virginia. The wife and I agreed we would not ship the cats across country in an airliner (after having lost two-cats on an airliner). Instead, we decided to drive across country in a motor home and carry our four-cats (Chip, Dale, Irving and Shy) with us. As we approached Oklahoma city the weather changed to sleet and freezing rain. Our male Burmese Dale, loved to sit on the driver's lap and place his paws on the wheel as if he were driving. Well, an Oklahoma State Trooper pulled us over. She knocked on the door of our motor home, and my wife let her in. Well sir, she saw Dale sitting on my lap, with his paws on the wheel and said "Oh thank God, it's real!" Then she sat down and said "because of the flu, I'm midway through my second consecutive shift, when I look to the right and see a cat driving a motor home". She smiled and asked us to please pull the courtesy curtains behind the driver's door window. Then we shot multiple pictures of the Trooper behind the wheel of our motor home with Chip, Dale, Irving and Shy taking turns sitting on her lap; paws on the steering wheel. No cats do not hate motor vehicles, so long as you let them drive.

The craziest relationship I’ve ever seen: my mamaw had a husky and a calico kitten. The husky, of course, was an absolute crack head, but the cat was all about it. She always slept on the dog’s head and they chased each other all day long. They never went anywhere without the other.

My rabbit and my MILs Border Terrier/Shih Tzu mix were BFFs lol. They had to boop noses every morning and every evening! When my bun got really sick and needed constant care for a few weeks, the dog would sit close and whine every time bun had an episode. When she was finally better, we had to put a pen up so she could use it to balance and navigate. The dog was not a fan and I had to open it for them to boop noses lol. Those two queens ruled a house of 4 cats and 2 dogs. My rabbit only enjoyed the company of the one dog, too. She had a slightly higher tolerance for the little dog and my cat because they were babies with her, but zero patience with the other cats 😂

I had a cat for many years who I'd been acclimating to travel from a young age. I traveled all over the country by car with her. I ran an office where I would take her to work every day. It reached a point where she would run and jump into the car. On long trips, she would climb up and drape herself around my neck to sleep. Other drivers seemed to find it charming when they glanced over.

My Eddy is jealous of the attention I pay to my prized jade plant. Eddy glares at it when I water it and then when he thinks I cannot see him he smacks the plant. It cracks me up!
@sarahcheeseman85912 жыл бұрын
Be careful he doesn't do more than that. My cat Ginseng was a terror on plants. After he decimated my roommates Boston ferns he killed a pair of daisies we had been given. We mourned their loss and my roommate lamented that we'd never be able to have plants. I disagreed. I suggested we get a daffenbachia (sp?); now before Jackson says anything, yes, I knew they were poisonous to cats, that's why I suggested we get one. I knew that the cats would instinctively know not to chew on the plant and they did know. They did not chew on it, they didn't touch it. But they did kill it. My well trained kitties took to peeing in the planter occasionally. It took 3 years before it sickened and died. By that time I had caught 1 of the cats, Leona, peeing in the planter. She got in trouble for her and I thought the matter over. It was when the plant continued to die despite everything we did to save it that I started looking in the dirt at the roots to see if a parasite was the problem and the smell deep in told me what had happened. But by then it was too late the plant died despite everything we'd done to save it. My roommate was right...we couldn't have any plants while those cats were alive. Now, I'm just not capable of gardening here where I'm at for different reasons other than the cats. So if your Jade plant starts to take a turn for the worse, check deep in the soil for a cat urine smell. If you detect it early enough and completely change the pot and soil being sure to wash off the roots real good, then you might be able to save it.

Being a Chef, I've learned that every cat ive had, get so curious when I'm cooking. So, I slowly trained them to have a spot where when I'm cooking. I find this keeps them away from cutting boards, or them running off with a food just to leave it some place randomly half finished. I also find it helps my cats food gorging. I love this, William! I like to involve my 2 little ones in my everyday life at home when possible, but I never really thought about trying this! If I have food in my hands that isn't on a plate and/or on it's way to the table, I will usually hold it up to my little girl's nose because if she sees food, she automatically assumes it's for her! So, I want her to smell it and understand that it's really not something that she would like! She is pretty much my little shadow and if I am in the kitchen there is no chance that I will be left alone! But normally she lies down right behind my feet! So if I'm cooking, she isn't really sitting on my level, so I haven't thought about offering her sniffs every so often. I must give it a try next time.

I used to take him on walks with a harness to let him have some of the outdoors back in his life, so I knew how much he loved it. I ended up getting him a huge mesh backpack that would buckle in to the car. It was mostly mesh, besides the structure, and I started using that instead of the kennel. I was never even a "cat person", but even so I really feel for the little guys. They've gotten the shift in a million ways for generations just because people don't care to know better. It's a good thing we have people like Jackson to spread information that improves lives. I mean, this is a living creature, not a stuffed animal- You can't just buy it, only pay the slightest attention to it and simply assume it will be happy locked up alone in your house otherwise.... but I feel like a lot of people do exactly that with cats.

Trust me, my cats DO care when I’m out of town, even if just for a night or two. My bedding is always Covered in shedded fur, about 10x more than usual (used to put fresh sheets on my bed before leaving town to maximize the joy of being “back in my own bed.” Not anymore. In addition to the hair there is usually vomit somewhere in the room and diarrhea in the box that smells unworldly). When I first arrive home, one stares me down, then gives me the cold shoulder. The other one yells at me for about 30 minutes won’t leave my side for about 4 days, then- once he trusts I’m home for good- he teaches me a lesson and won’t come when I call or cuddle for about two days (to teach me a lesson) Then after a week everyone’s back to normal.

I’ve watched your shows & really enjoy them. I’ve had cats most of my life. Now I’m soon to be 88 yrs old & down to only one, my beloved Mikey who is 12. I rescued him & bottle fed him. He’s only known good with me. Sadly I lost a cat two days ago. Also a stray. She was about 2 yrs old when I took her in. Got her spayed. She was always a difficult cat but I managed. Think it was bad treatment in early years. At least she had food, shelter & kindness for 10 yrs. Feeding 3 strays now. Don’t know their story but they were neutered & spayed before being dumped or left behind. Been feeding & caring for strays for years & also spaying & neutering with my money. I’m a widow now & not a lot of money but manage. Anyway thanks for all you do & all people who care. 💕

They are such loving companions. Thank you for your service, they are/were all so lucky to have you. I really want to adopt soon, currently revising so I take care of them in the best way possible. “Cats want to be in control” Years ago I travelled overseas with my cats. First day gave them the sedative the vet recommended. They hated it and were extremely stressed and upset - “what’s wrong with my body?”. Then paperwork was wrong and we couldn’t fly. The day after we did fly with no sedative, and it wasn’t pleasant, but they we much calmer and composed. Btw, they never did like dogs.
@lisar3944 Жыл бұрын
My vet recommended sedatives for my cats when I moved them overseas. I asked him for a double-dose so I could do a trial run to see the effects in calm surroundings at home. Let's say it was NOT good. As you describe, they were both very stressed without any extra stimulation, just because they were wobbly and confused! I decided to put them on the plane sober, and while they were not happy about the ordeal, they at least had their wits about them. So I would add "cats hate to be drugged" to Jackson's list, for sure

“Cats are slave to routine” This is so true for my cat. The first night I brought him home, he had been terrified of me at the foster’s house, so around 8:00 pm I laid on the couch and put him under a blanket with me where he was curled near me knees to try to get him used to me. He immediately relaxed, began purring, cuddled up next to me, etc. and the rest is history. The next night I laid down on the couch under a blanket after dinner and he came and found me and crawled under the blanket and curled up against my knees. That was a year ago and he has come to find me every single night around 8:00 pm to cuddle under a blanket ever since then. He eats at the same time, plays at the same time, sleeps at the same time, tries to run out the door and makes me catch him and bring him back at the same time- EVERYTHING is part of the routine. It’s really pretty incredible and has done wonders for my ADHD bc now I’m a slave to his routine too lol People with ADHD suck at maintaining a routine but it’s really good for helping manage our symptoms. I’d never been able to keep one until I got him but it’s been so easy to do it now because it’s best for *him* and he makes sure to remind me when it’s time to do something lol

Dogs can be "happy-go-stupid." Our dog, Belgian, loves everything about his cats. He has a huge bed. If there is a cat on it, he refuses to disturb then. I think it's about the expectations we set out. Everyone gets along. He is so kind to the cats and gets upset if their play, while totally safe, gets too vocal.

One day she was out for a while and it snowed; I opened the door to see her covered with about an inch of snow and she merely blinked at me when I asked her if she wanted to come in. My friends had a cat who was a semi-feral they adopted who absolutely loved car rides. He would dash out after I would park, and jump right into the passenger seat every time I arrived, and wouldn't leave my car until I had driven him around the block once. The cats we have ourselves, both are very insistent on having clean litter boxes, which is fine by me and good for them. So we clean twice a day. If someone makes too much of a mess kicking litter around (his sister) our boy will, however, come to us meowing until we follow him to the offending box and fix it for him. So sometimes we'll wind up scooping four times a day just for him. I understand though, as I hate public toilets and rail against those people who insist on hovering and spraying over toilet seats. So I get it! And I appreciate that he's 'talky' enough and smart enough to come 'tell' his staff that something needs doing.

I got a cat a few days ago and I was so surprised at how calm he was in his carrier. I took 2 trains, had to wait in a busy station for half an hour, the weather was bad... And he didn't complain once. He's so sweet !

Um, he was probably in shock . . all the way?

@@bron9674 I thought so too, not gonna lie. I can confirm now that he's just a calm little boy and doesn't mind his carrier, he even sleeps in it!

I used to watch your show "My Cat From Hell" all the time with my parents. I had no idea that you had a youtube channel and I'm soooo happy that I found it!

Everyday and I do it 2Xs a day. He's pretty spoiled yet he litterbox trained first day💜 he came from the outside world. Just think cat. And I've been a dog person for decades. Cats are insane smart. People underestimate that I think. I'm still learning yet it's best for him and his quality of life is vital

Most people can easily fit into animal characteristics 😏 Some behave like dogs, some like cats.

Our black cat Franky, actually liked wearing his sweater. It wasn't tight and he had medical issues so we think he just liked the warm it gave him. But I do agree, cats shouldn't wear costumes. Great video!

One of my cats loves wearing a sweater too, he went through very nasty cat fever (I've no idea how he even survived so long on his own) but also dislikes sitting at home all day so I decided to repurpose a shrunk merino wool and cashmere sweater I got for 4 bucks in a second hand store. Now he brings it in his teeth from time to time and often sleeps on it too

@@Sk0lzky Something similar clothes-wise happens with our cat. The last 3 months is the length we've had Cleopatra so far and we learnt quickly that not only does she scent everything, she wants us to scent her, and with possession of things also being important to her, my mom's old cashmere top which she wears to bed when cold so was always under the pillow ( which smelt like me so she sat and claimed.) at bedtime, when Cleo is stressed, wants to kneed, be covered, etc we give her it and it turns her from a wild, scared Cleo to cute, kitten Cleo. 🐈⬛ Ps. Scent as in body and head, no litter anywhere onto in the box thankfully.

I’ve heard over anxious cats can benefit from wearing a vest or sweater. I must admit that I love seeing cats dress up BUT ONLY if the cat is happy to do so. Otherwise it’s cruel.
@BlinkinFirefly3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a sweater is one thing, but making cats wear weird fitting costumes with awkward, uncomfortable accessories just is not fun for them at all. Lets be real, no accessories are actually truly comfortable even to humans
