My husband found five abandoned kittens under our neighbors porch recently. Their fur was matted and didn’t look like it had been groomed in days, they were cold to the touch, and so skinny we could count their ribs. Obviously we took them in, warmed them up and ran out to get some milk substitute to get them fed. Now just two and a half weeks later they’re all growing so fast, playing with us and each other, and snuggling in my lap whenever I sit down. We’re only keeping two long term but we’re taking care of all five of them until we can get them into solid food and get them their first round of shots. We couldn’t do nearly as well as we have without the Kitten Lady and Jackson Galaxy giving us all the information we need to keep our five unexpected guests healthy and happy.

I had a cat for 18 years, Maximus, who loved silver shiny things. particularly nail polish bottles because their caps were silver. But when he died and for almost a year after, I would find hoards of silver shiny things from aluminium foil, to quarters, bottle caps to nail polish bottles. If it was shiny, he wanted it. gosh I miss that cat!

Had a soul cat that would drop his fuzzy balls into my shoes as a gift. After he passed at 21, months later I found one of his fuzzy balls in a shoe I had not worn for a while. I fell to the floor and just bawled my eyes out. Am doing that now too, and he has been gone for...18 years. That ball is on the window ledge and I see it when washing dishes....say hi to him and thank him for the ball every time.

She is a tissue paper hoarder and has a stash in a basket in my bedroom that she likes to frequently rearrange to rebuild her "nest" - usually at 3:00am. 😹

I adopted a senior cat (vet estimates 12-14 years old) three months ago, who is an absolute purry biscuit-making sweetheart but definitely no frisky kitten - bit of arthritis, vet figures. So I've had to make some allowances and adaptations to suit his energy level and mobility, but I still feel I'm building on your insights. For example: I have a timeworn fabric-upholstered armchair, big and tall-backed and well-padded with a relatively low-slung seat, and I've made the radical decision of encouraging my cat to "own" that chair as his scent-soaker/scratching post/sleeping spot/window-lookout. I honestly don't give a darn that the chair gets further beat-up, and the distances from floor to seat to arm to top of chair-back are modest enough for him to manage handily. The chair's right between my front window and my computer desk where I spend a lot of time, and right below the mini-split unit so he gets plenty of warmth in the current chilly weather. I've also put a fake-fur throw I used to sleep with in the chair seat for more fluffy scent-soaking goodness. And he loves it. He climbs up on it, scratches away at it, and perches on top to survey his world, and it's become his main bed/nap/hangout spot. It's much more comfy and accessible for him than any cat tree I've seen, an still delivers that exercise/play/nesting situation we know cats love.

Yeah. I adopted two cats years ago (passed on in 2016 and 2018) and one liked to scratch the floors/carpets so we bought a bunch of carpet tiles for about 2$ each at a carpet place. We put them over his "favorite" spots and would praise him when we saw him using them, after about 3 weeks we could shift them anywhere and he never attacked the carpet again. The other one liked the padded arms and tops of chairs with padded backs. So we made him a "kitty couch", a wooden crate (from a craft store) that we put a washable padded cover on the top of (tied on), and my dad stapled some leather on the corners. Once he figured out (3 weeks of praise, and moving him if we saw him messing with the other furniture) that Kitty couch was his to use for scratching, he left the furniture alone also. They both loved to sleep on it. It was by the back door (glass slider) so they could also watch the birds etc. Cats LOVE to be praised and petted, and if it works for those two knuckleheads (one ginger, the other black) it will work for most cats. Give them thier own "destroy" item, and they will likely leave your stuff alone.

One of my cat's favourite things is for me to make a kind of tent inside the bed by putting my knees up while under the blankets. She'll get in there, have a bath, and then curl up for a sleep. It makes a lot of sense, it's dark, warm, sheltered, and smells like her and me. If I'm laying down she'll also ask to get in and cuddle up to my chest. Another one of her favourite things is when people let her sniff whatever they have, it doesn't really matter what it is (although obviously if there's any chance it might be unsafe or too strongly scented we don't do it) she just needs to know what it is, and it lets her feel involved. I call her my little health inspector.

Yes, being very attentive to kitties & plastic bags is so important. One part is it implies the kitties have Pica. But I made a terrible mistake 3 or 4 years ago. I forgot to pick up one i had in a room they play in. One kitty got his head stuck through the handle & he panicked, he started flying through the room in fear. He kept running into walls & furniture. Took me a while to catch him & take it away. Was very lucky he didnt hurt himself. I'm extra careful all the time now.

If I give my cats a paper bag that has handles, they have to be removed so the cat can play safely. I can’t believe Jackson didn’t mention how much cats love paper bags! I was watching this video on the Apple TV with one of my 2 year old cats, Lavender, on my lap. At the beginning when you brought out the wand toy, she sat up watched. Then she jumped down and sat on the floor just in front of the tv and then she jumped up on the tv stand and tried to bat at the feathers as they flew by! So I got up and got the wand toy out and started playing with her which got the attention of her sister Lily (also 2) and my 11 year old cat, Leonard. They all played and chased after the toy. They want to mark your scent! They want everyone else to know that you belong together. We have a somewhat clear hierarchy amongst our four; oldest is boss, youngest is his "little brother" no 2, but the middle children kinda compete to claim territory with one of the two humans, and sometimes everyone but the boss compete with each other over who gets best territory. Right now our girl is trying to claim me. She marks (claws) on my hall laundry basket and even boldly jumps over 1 and 2 to sit up on my shoulder in bed, no 2 stretches his feet on my doorframe, our big tux likes my shoes, and everyone claws next to Dad's shoe pile in his room.

They do like to play, of course, and they do like cat grass. My three also like dirty AND clean washing and to investigate anything new in the house. Our cats love when we use their fur after brushing them and rolling it into hairballs (they are kind of like wool balls). Adding catnip when rolling the fur makes them love them even more. We have 6 cats, so one brushing session can produce a pretty decent size hairball.

My former cat Dex (rip) wouldn't even wait for the box to be empty before jumping into it. The moment it was open, it was his regardless of whether it was empty or not, lol. I have so many pictures of him in a box (sometimes with his big fluffy tail sticking out because he acted like he forgot he had a big fluffy tail). He adored whenever I got an Amazon delivery. One of my cats for whatever reason, absolutely loves licking hair. Be it the hair on my friends head or my beard, he just absolutely loves to 'groom'. I wouldn't say it's weird, but he's definitely the only cat I've known to do something like that. Of course, he's also really affectionate with just about everyone, even new people so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I had to say goodbye to my precious chunky baby girl, Coco, on Oct. 30th of this year. Best 8 years and 10 months of my life. She loved watching your videos and always meowed and came running when she heard your voice from the other room lol Her favorite toy was a long red rope that was actually a belt for my little sister's dress lol she was obsessed with it. I lost it during the move a few months ago and was devastated. After she passed, I found it in a random box. Our new orange kitten, Creamsicle, who came to us a week before Coco passed, loves the red rope just as much as she did. I cry every time I bring it out, but it feels like she's here playing too.

We've already had one very expensive vet visit to remove part of a pool noodle.....we have to keep lots of things locked up. His new thing is chewing apart cardboard box's! I'm ok with that rather than foam or silicone or plastic !

She also chews and eats plastic wrappers, much to her detriment. She throws up the bits. So now we keep all plastic bags and wrap away from her.

I am so glad you talked about the plastic bags. Not only does it greatly help 2 out of 3 of my cats who are addicted to plastic, but it also helps me because I have had treatment resistant eczema specifically on my hands; my dermatologist insisted it was something I was touching or holding that was causing it. I also have a severe allergy to all fish and shellfish which has sent me into anaphylaxis. Now I am going to cut back on plastic bags, making sure to use cloth reusable bags whenever I can to limit my exposure to plastic bags. That could finally be the key! Thank you so much, I never dreamed allergens were part of plastic!

I have to sit when I play with my cat, as I’m disabled. So I CANT run around and act a fool like you’re “supposed to”. I do my very best to engage with her, with lots of different toys, but always feel guilty I can’t run around and make sure there’s more variations of playing. Seeing you divert a little from your usual “get up and play” is a little bit of a relief. For someone like me.

Obviously I'm not jackson, but I'm pretty sure that's not what he would want at all, it sounds like you're doing an amazing job 💚 For what it's worth, I've always taken the message to be more about being "engaged" with the play, and the "laziness" is more about that, than specifically a rule against sitting down. I'm sure your cats are lucky to have you :)

I too am disabled(MS), but my cats over the last 50 years do not judge whether I am standing or sitting. I can still toss balls or crumpled paper, or even flat sheets of paper and wiggle a wand or string under it. Or scratch a corner of a cardboard box so they stalk...They don't care what it is, but more that you are with them.

I'm also disabled, so I'm usually sitting for playtime as well. One of my cats needs a lot of enrichment and can get bored easily, so I use a wand and position myself near a structure with areas he can stalk and pounce from, like a tunnel, a box, or a cat tree. (A Ripple Rug is his favorite -- lots of spots to hide and strike at prey! 😼) I used to always felt so guilty turning down playtime whenever I couldn't stand up for long, but this technique ended up being a happy medium for us. 😮‍💨☺️

My little girl, LOVES her "Cat Dancer wand. To the point that she's "obsessed". LOL! The problem is, is that when she catches it, she will NOT let go! The ONLY way she will let go, is when I fully drop the handle. (smh) Her brother wants to get in on the action, and will grab part of it. She will NOT play with him. He wants to, but... She loves it SO much, that she will bring it up on the bed, in the middle of the night, and BEG me to wake up and play. She has even dragged it across my face. LOL! She has dragged it into the bathroom, and even leaves it in front of the door, when I go out for any length of time. They have a LOT of toys, of various kinds. Biscuits (boy), will entertain himself with many of them. (And make to strangest noises as he chases them). Brandy (girl), will only chase the mysterious red dot, and other than the wand, those are her only "toys". I LOVE playing with her, but, after so many times of having to drop the handle, and pick it up again, gets quite tiresome. Not sure what to do, to get her to play more.

My cat loves to lie on plastic bags! If I’ve left one temporarily on a counter or the dining table, he will inevitably lie down on it & take a nap. My cat has a sturdy scratching post, but he WILL molest the wooden handle on my recliner by gnawing on it! He doesn’t gnaw on anything else. Maybe he loves it because my scent is on it from adjusting the recliner to lean back and then go uptight again? And my cat loves CLEAN laundry!

My cats love biting things to pieces. Cardboard boxes and any kind of packaging material are just perfect for them to chew on. They never eat the stuff, they only chew around on it. I asked my vet if maybe something is wrong with their teeth but nope, they just seem to like chewing on things and ripping them apart.

I used quake putty and my cat was sooo mad he couldn't knock over my collectable. He smacked at my star wars funko pop until he actually got it to fall xD it took him 2 hours. I tried redirecting with toys, food. nope. Must... knock... off... funko... pop!

I'm a first time cat parent. We rescued a bonded pair 3 months ago. They like boxes but thy both love brown paper from packages. We keep all of it. They love to play with teasers where the toy is under the paper. They get to pounce and rip it with their teeth, which I assume is satisfying. I also put some paper in a box then tuck treats into and under all the crinkles. It helps our big boi slow down when we give treats.

When I adopted my cat I played 8+hours with her a day for the first weeks 😅 because I didn't want her to be bored. It's her love language. Because of my job and all I couldn't keep that up 😅 but I make sure to give her a full hour in the morning and like 2h in the evening, our bond is very strong thanks to it and her self esteem is high. Now she walks around like a little cowboy singing her little song while carrying her favourite wand 😁

That bit in the beginning reminded me of my husband. We have 2 cats. One lap cat and one aloof cat. The lap cat is an older blind baby, and he loves to just hang out. He follows me around and likes to sit in my lap when I game or watch youtube. The younger one is a wild child. He loves to play, hates being picked up and petted, but he also follows me everywhere. With him, if you respect his boundaries, he'll appreciate it. The second I lay down for bed, he's in my face with the purring and the kisses, and all he wants is to cuddle with me. So glad to see you smile again!

Cats love puffy blankets. The cats I've fostered always seem to go straight for the puffiest blanket, and our cats will try to kick us out of bed early to take our favorite puffy blankets. And yeah. Cats LIVE for praise! That's actually how we get ours to behave. We praise them constantly, so that even a lack of being praised is enough for them to stop doing something. My boy even tries doing tricks for praise. He runs around, does some crazy jump over the tunnel or off the wall, then stops and meows at me, like "Mom! Did you see that!?" 🤣 Somehow, being praised 1000 times a day is never enough!

We play tag and he loves roughhousing so when I come from the grocery store and set the bags down on the couch, table or bed, he uses them as a fort to stage sneak attacks on me. My cats used to walk along the top of my dresser every morning, knocking all the perfume bottles to the floor! He did this to wake me up cause it's time for breakfast! And. If that's not bad enough.. ..he taught the new baby to follow along behind, knocking whatever bottles didn't fall to the floor, over. I've never seen anything like this before (or after). RIP Kitty dude and pre cious Puff. It's really cool to see how many people have cats. All these comments about their cats shows just how valuable they (the cats) are to us. Easy to find alternative to museum putty is “mounting putty.” Loctite has some called fun tack, originally designed for kids to hang posters non destructively. Gorilla makes some that’s less garish looking if it’s going to show. You can get it by the case. It’s cheap, easy, removable, and amazingly useful for all kinds of things once you’re have it around, like securing cables so kitty stops eating your phone charger, etc. 😊

My little mini panther loves kibble sprinkled in egg cartons. He uses his paws to bang on the cup side and flip the kibble into the flat side. There is never one piece left. Alternative uses are communicating by sitting in the flat side to indicate kibble is required, or just ripping the egg carton apart for the fun of it. He’s on a raw food diet, but kibble is definitely his chocolate.

my two ginger boys absolutely love sand baths. I bought them two packs of chinchilla sand, took a litterbox they refused to use as a bathroom (but played in it) and here you have a beautiful, fantastic, top-notch sand pool. one of the boys also loves to pee in the soil. I mean, I lost few plants on my terrace and it got so intense in one point, they held their pee (not using clean litterboxes they used before) until me comming back home from work and opening terrace door. currently I mix wood litter and soil -_- I don't love it but they need to pee. and I did try all I could think of to change that, but currently it is what it is

Boxes, oh ya,but now I'm gonna try some cut outs. My big boy, a snowshoe, has a dog, an older retriever but doesn't understand why she won't respond to his adoration, ear cleaning etc. My 2 boys are brothers and absolutely adore each other, I'll send some pics. People, you must have at least 2 cats at a time! My snowshoe loves water,water dripping, splashing and flushing and hangin in the kitchen sink My little boy loves heights like the top of the fridge. I've found a metal, floor to ceiling, spiral staircase made for plants. Once I figure out how to secure it and add some padding it's their's. I've watched you for years, I'm an old retriever too!

You are so right about not being "lazy" with your cats playtime because they will pick up on it with in a matter of a few seconds, depending on the cat, as they naturally each have their own unique personalities, but there are certain behaviors that approx. 95% of them seem to universally follow, like purring when they are content, and grooming themselves after meals, and pouncing on wiggling strings, feathers, and small wriggling movements under a blanket or floor mats for example. Another one of those almost universal things that most cats similarly respond to, or more accurately universally don't seem respond to and that is lazy, distracted, or half heartened attempts at playing with them. They will refuse to engage unless you are really engaged, and trying to make the movements sporadic and unexpected, followed by intervals slower consistent predictable gestures, to pausing and playing dead, to then spontaneously springing up unexpectedly with rapid movements and just keep alternating those types of movements. It is basically just mimicking small rodent like scurrying gestures or fluttering young birds hopping about learning to fly or just any small live prey animals movements to keep your cat interested. Lackadaisically moving the feather toy,or string back and forth while you are reading or looking at the tv won't cut it, and your cat will likely refuse to participate, until you get your head back into the game, and they will know if you are faking it! The younger the kitten is, you can get away with not being as present, but once they get a bit older, they expect you to bring your best enthusiastic game.

One of my cats loves baby talk. Yoongi will stare at me, purr, and knead whatever surface he's on when I talk sweet nonsense to him. Yoongi also loves chewing on EVERYTHING, just spent $700 at the vet making sure he didn't have a blockage because he was throwing up and hiding. He's fine, just a complete menace lol.
