I have lver 30 Alexander Palms in my yard. I absolutely love them. I think they have a look of royalty. I grew them all from seeds or collected seedlings. Like you sais they are easy to grow. I'm in Palm Beach Co.

I also saw your video on archontophoenix purpurea. I've always wanted to grow it, but after watching that video and this one, I think I'd stick to the alexandrae. The purprea has that colorful crownshaft, but I actually find the fronds of the alexandrae and other species more beautiful. They are fuller and cascade gracefully. And according to this video, grow really well in South Florida apparently a lot better than the purprea.

What are the palms in front of the miami beach convention center? They sometimes are yellow under the crownshaft. They kinda look like these

Does the King Palm, Alexander, cope well in full sun? And windy days in winter ? Is this palm a very thirsty palm? Compared to say a Adonidia or Royal palm? We had bad winds and killed 2 of my kings, in pot, yet Christmas palns sailed through. Might have been a mealy bug issue, if palm damaged by winds then attacked by mealy bugs. For outdoor palms with mealy bugs, you recommend a mixture of shampoo and water ??

Janice - I have just bought one an Alexandrea in S France - in the indoor section I haven't a clue what to do with it!! I thought it was a Kentia palm! Can it be grown indoors??

I have a Cunningham in a pot in Lake Charles, La. Think it would be okay in the ground? Or should I just keep it potted? Zone 9. Also what about a Bismarck? Thanks!
