Great video, Ash. I happened to be in Northampton last weekend and called into the Cheaney and Loake factory shops. I enquired about a tour of the Cheaney factory - love seeing the craftsmanship in producing quality men's shoes. Those boots you bought look fabulous. Look forward to watching that video. I've thought about investing in a pair of Trickers country boots - will be watching with interest. It's important we retain these quality British shoe manufacturers for generations to come.

Tricker’s are great. Kudu leather is one of the best, no breaking in required. They have it in burgundy, caramel, moss green and another shade of red. They also use Castorino suede in unlined boots and shoes for summer, which is not the typical split leather one finds on inferior footwear, but full reverse suede.

I’ve long desired a pair of fine British outdoor shoes or boots. Alt-Berg remains atop my wish list and, since seeing SKYFALL (has it really been 9 years?!) I’ve wanted a pair of Crockett & Jones shoes. More recently, watching the terrific Netflix series, THE CROWN, did Trickers show up on my radar. Next month, for the first time in my life, I’ll be traveling across the pond to England, including London. I think I’m just going to take the plunge. I’m leaning Trickers but will definitely poke my nose into C&J. Thanks for the video!

In the mid 1960s, in my late teens, I saw an advert in 'Country Life' for Tricker's 'gorse calf tramping shoes' now similar to the boots in your video. Another informative video, thanks Ash! This is more motivation to seek out shoes/clothing made in the UK, USA, or other non-sweatshop country. It seems like one of the challenges to keep companies like Trickers in business, is being able to find young folks to learn the skills of manual shoe manufacturing. In our gig economy world, lifetime work as a shoe craftsperson has appeal.

@Ash, I can confirm that Kudu leather makes gorgeous boots. I have an exceptional pair of Kudu leather boots from Cheaney. But it’s not smooth leather, like calfskin. It’s a buttery leather, exceptionally comfortable. It’s also exceptionally characterful. Every piece of kudu exhibits it’s own patina and wear patterns. Excellent if you enjoy rustic leather, but not something for those who want a smooth finish.
@John_in_da_UP6 ай бұрын
The kudu hides come from wild animals that are necessarily culled from time to time. Contact with predators and the environment add plenty of "character" to their skin. Judging by the marks on my Parkhurst sage (green) kudu boots, my antelope didn't go down without a fight. Awesome comfort right out of the box.
