You have 20 + years of Evergrey to go through. This band has been my favorite since 2003 and I’ve been lucky enough to meet them a couple times. Amazing band and they need a great review like this! Thank you! They should be a household name by now. I’m waiting for the album to arrive to see if I made the liner notes for the chorus of “save us” as they had fans send in their vocal takes to compile that chant.

You will find that the majority of Evergrey's (Tom's) lyrics are deep, profound, honest thoughts from the heart. What you get is a piece of Tom's inner thoughts and feelings. That and the awesome music these guys perform is why I appreciate this band so much.

Thanks for noticing those Harsh vocals. Those were actually mine. The band had an open audition for fans to submit vocal lines Rather than trying clean vocals, I decided to do something different and used my harsh ones. It was the first time I've done anything like that, since I am very shy about my singing. But to participate in a song for one of my favorite bands, I couldn't resist. I have been a fan of Evergrey since 2001, and they never cease to amaze with their songs. I highly recommend checking out Midwinter Calls, and Blindfolded, in that order. Simply… Thank you, Elizabeth for taking the time and sharing your musical insight into Evergrey and specifically Tom Englund. Jonas, Rikard, Henrik and Johan are all extraordinary musicians that amplify his vocals in each of there own ways. Rikard with those keys and electronics in the pauses, stitching the raw elements together. Johan does his part in laying down the best progressive groves for all the power and energy to dwell. Henrik co-leads with the voices of the guitars to match the harmonies/melodies with the octaves and can quickly go back and forth from the raw to the soaring heights of Tom’s vocals and Rikard’s prophetically timed keys (much like Vikram in Silent Skies). And then Jonas… the musical talent he has in his soul is beyond words. He conducts from the drum kit and powers out the directions for all the band members to take place in a very intentional way. And like you pointed out… Tom creates these amazing lyrics that lead, but also invite Us to be a part of in a full and vulnerable way. He really accepts all of Us as who we are in this space and encourages Us to be part of the bigger story. Again… thank you for highlighting Evergrey and Tom. All of them have been creating amazing albums for decades now and they deserve to be recognized so much more for what they bring to all of Us. This episode of your channel meant a lot to me personally. I’m sincerely grateful, Elizabeth.

Woo! I've been waiting for a Tom/Evergrey reaction for awhile now lol. Fun fact about this album, the "chorus" parts are actual recordings of fans singing! First heard of Evergrey from Ayreons 01 album back in 2008, and been hooked ever since. I've got to recommend I'm Sorry or A Touch of Blessing

I love this band so much, it's one of the most underrated metal groups of all time in my opinion. You should definitely listen to one of their ballads like "The Paradox of the Flame", which is a gorgeous duet between Tom and his wife Carina!

I’ve been listening to Evergrey for years. The instrumental and vocals are all amazing. Saw them live too, nice guys. Very talented band for sure!

Just discovered Evergrey a couple of months ago, thanks to one of Tank's reactions. Now I can't stop listening! Weightless and Eternal Nocturnal are two of my favorites.

Since you’ve covered Jonathan Young before you should check out - “Sea Shanty Metal, Randy Dandy Oh” it’s an awesome song and they cover a lot of really cool vocal ranges through it. Would be super fun to hear your takes.

you should react to some celtic punk (Yesterdays rebel, One fine Day, Rose tattoo are all fitting songs) and as for metal I think the legendary song that is Dragon Force: Through Fire and Flames should be a fun video

Thanks Elizabeth, great vocal science and you always have great insights into the composition of meaning of a song that always makes me think. Indeed, bunch of great artists on Napalm to check out, Sojourner, Crypta, Ahab, 1914, and I think you’d really enjoy Draconian, the track The Sethian is great.

This band is amazing. Probably one of my top favorite bands. You should try out their older albums like Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy or Monday Morning Apocalypse..

And to think, Tom was a guitarist only until his vocalist quit. My personal favorite song that shows off his range is The Impossible. It's perfection.
