What a lovely young man, you were so lucky to meet him, we were all too shy to approach him at the time tho I did take a sneaky photo!

Wow! What fun excursion that Stephanie and Phillip have taken us on!! Zack was terrific and the display clothing amazing. Despite our rural CA (USA) wine country location we make every attempt to visit the New York Metropolitan Museum Exhibits and I must say I've learned more history thru those exhibits that all the history books...well maybe NOT all, combined. LOLs. Clothing is an amazing lens thru which to view it This exhibit is no different than those others, proving we 'are what we wear'! (Or is that 'were' what we 'wear') Bravo!

Although I don't wear dresses or skirts, not even kilts, I have to admit that being a straight white guy it is difficult to dress as I would like. I like color, bold color, rich cloth, accessories. for instance I typically wear a large rhinestone brooch instead of a tie or bow tie in upscaled dressy events with either of any of my tuxedos. it draws a lot of attention which I usually don't like, I just like the richness, texture, sparkle and something no run-of-the-mill fashion. It is not often possible in the America southern states, more boring, non attention getting drab clothing is the norm with other seen as queer.

I LOVED THIS! Little fact about me - when I was a teen I dressed outside of the box - punk leaning, which got me into trouble at school in the early 70's. I didn't care and continued dressing as I pleased. I made some of my own hand sewn items and jewelry I made. I adore people who dress for themselves and not others. One reason admire you Philip and the choices you make in fashion. I have told you that a few times that I like your clothing. My hubby wears women's coats soooo YUP I like them on men. I never knew about Zack before - I will check his channel out. Thank you for sharing Stephanie! Side note: sorry I had to step out of chat, my adorable grandkids dropped by. 😊

The sad reality is that the particular clothes we end up wearing, are more determined by our specific socio economic niche than by any real self expression. Dressing “the way you like “ is often more compliant than people are willing to admit, as well as the need to be noticed at any cost .
@ChristineKelly1000
@ChristineKelly1000 2 жыл бұрын
While I agree with you to a certain extent, we all can’t afford haute couture, a true individual would find ways of dressing to their own taste. Either by making their own, buying second hand ala Stephanie or in end of line sales etc. We are so fortunate in the times we live in that recycling, re-using and vintage are so acceptable.
@IRSA1
@IRSA1 2 жыл бұрын
@@ChristineKelly1000 Whilst I do agree with what you are saying, realistically, it is very difficult to achieve real individuality of style, even in today’s world .Come what may, you will end up wearing a permutation of what is available around you , old or new, according to your means and how you want to be seen and more often than mot, accepted by others. True uniqueness is almost impossible, which is why the history of fashion follows the trends of social history. It is certainly fun to try developing your personal style, but its uniqueness is often an illusion.

Especially today as my sister's major was costume design. :) Makes me laugh on the elbows on the table.....my grandmother (raised in France) we had to use our best manners around and one was about the elbows. Stephanie, thank you, Philip and our guide Zack who explained the history of fashion. You respect the intelligence of your viewers and are in a class by yourself in the vlogs you make. Please do not stop surprising and educating us. It also puts into context the period clothes people wore for the Venice party. Talking of colours in men's fashion- I couldn't believe African men in pink, red and yellow etc.clothes when I started watching Nigerian movies. I like ethnic clothes, especially African, and the styles of yesteryear for dressing up; I recently thrifted a black 1920s style dress ( wore to a funeral in Jamaica) and a modified kimono style dress. As Zack said that it is how one feels in the clothes. Stephanie, please keep the variety in your vlogs coming.

Fascinating. There's a young Frenchwoman (can't remember her name), a dressmaker, who wears mostly Empire styles in her daily life. She appeared in the news once because she'd been turned away from the Château de Versailles, where "costumes" are apparently not allowed except at special events.

I love these type of exhibitions and always take too many photos at them! I have loved fabrics since I was a child and I have a degree in textile merchandising. One of my favorite parts of getting this degree was research papers, especially those that I illustrated. Now when I travel, one of stops is always fabric stores and notion stores--clothes I make then are the best souvenirs and I have such good memories when I wear them. If I visited you, I would spend all my time browsing your books on textiles! Thanks for thinking to take us along to this exhibit and it was indeed wonderful to hear Zack Pinsent's comments.
