I am SO EXCITED! We are finally at the time where the rooms above/the ceiling of the Grande Salon are being repaired! I can’t wait to see the new arrangement of rooms with new bathrooms/windiows! It’s been years getting to this point. I am looking forward to all of it- especially the redecorating of the upstairs rooms, and of course the restoration of the Grande Salon with that glorious panelling! Amaury’s heart must be singing these days.

I grew up with pineapple upside cake! If we didn't have any maraschino cherries, we would use pecans. 😋 We made the entire cake l in a cast iron skillet! We started by making the caramel in the skillet then put the other ingredients on top and baked it in the skillet. Perfectly caramelized!

Love Natti’s hair. She looks 10 years younger. Her husband is one lucky guy! Love the comraderie between Stephanie and Percy. Makes my heart melt. I also love the intimate kitchen dinners with the most important core of LaLanders. I was always a bit anxious in the past years of the parties. Maybe my age, but always worrying about what might happen. I feel that life at the chateau has settled into what it was always meant to be.

Just a thought. I roll up rugs with the top facing out so when I unroll them the corners and edges are pointing down and soom flatten out.

Yes! I own an interior design firm, and prior to delivering rugs to our customer’s homes we “backroll“ them so that when we lay them, they hug the floor rather than having the corners popping up. Great tip! 👍🏻

She should have taken antibiotics much, much sooner. For the deep chest congestion & cough to last so long, she obviously had a secondary bacterial infection, which tends to not heal with time, it takes antibiotics, especially at her age, to wait just causes more damage. Hope she realized that.

It is called Pineapple Upside Down Cake because the actual bottom is the intended top of the cake. You may turn all cakes upside down, of course, but you turn them back over before frosting and serving because the actual tops are the intended tops of the cakes.

Agreed. I always ice the part of the cake that was the top when it was in the oven. I know that is not the case with professionally iced cakes but it is the way that many/most home bakers do it.

I grew up in Texas (and have moved back there when my husband retired). My Mom always made pineapple upside down cake with brown sugar and filled the spaces between the rings with pecan halves. The cherries went in the centers of the rings. That made it so pretty!

I cannot wait to see the fireplace restored..but what is really going to be amazing is a stone mason resetting all the stones and apply missing ones to the large walls under the soon to be grand patio..that will change everything in beauty of that whole area..Then the pond..my goodness we have the joy of watching this whole transformation of Chateau de lalande yet to see.. along with all the people we all have come to know...so cool!

The way I see it, having a mix of old and new in the mantle piece is almost better than having the original intact! This way, more people give a little of their art and spirit to be preserved for the future and cared for by the chateau. And there is something poetic about mixing the craftsmanship of then and now. Not to mention, you are helping to keep the craft alive! 😊 ❤

The most beautiful, magical place, always with some exciting project on the go- I’d love to be there moving wardrobes, making plans, being busy, sharing the cooking.
