I love these ideas. I feel like I run into the Byrne more than classical or Austrian and i needed something like this. Thanks!

I'm glad to hear you found them helpful! Ya I've had multiple Pirc Defense players tell me they run into this and often have trouble with the positions that arise. Hopefully this opening theory helps some people. Thanks for tuning in and hope your 2024 is off to a good start!

Excellent video. I typically play positionally early in the PIRC, but have trouble with that strategy against the Byrne, so I loved this. Some of it was familiar but a lot was new.

Awesome! Now I know what to look for against the Pirc when using the Byrne variation from the white side. lol In all seriousness, amazing video! I watch a lot of chess content and a solid and thorough video like this on chess openings is very rare. Thanks!

Great video! Been waiting for this, but it was worth the wait. I have to admit, the Byrne has caused me to stop playing the Pirc. I felt I was getting steamed rolled in these positions. I like h6 (I have always castled), but never thought of just leaving my opponents bishop there on h4 and delay castling. I like the knight on h5 (again, never played it). I always retreated the knight. Maybe that why I was getting steamed rolled. I always was retreating in this line and could never get the counter play on the queen side. There was a lot of new lines here for me to unpack. Thanks again.

You got it! Ya the Bryne Variation is tough for a lot of Pirc Defense players it seems but hopefully this video can help some people in their preparation.

Thanks for this chess opening recommendation! And that's cool you play the Alekhine's Defense... very tough for a lot of e4 players in terms of what to do against his defensive chess system!

Well, it turns out 5. Be5 IS the best move, and being it so early in the game, not difficult to memorize, and probably the one to be played by most people facing the Pirc with at least some study under the belt.

@@TheChessGiant I won. But that same guy beat me in my last OTB tourney game a couple weeks ago, as he transposed from the Byrne into the Classical by playing Nf3 instead of his premature e5. I had a winning position but blundered in the middlegame.

useless :) Be3 is commented only you won't be seeing that often - I see it mostly, so no lines in that video can be played. If I go Ng4 then even Bc1 back is played :)
@TheChessGiant Жыл бұрын
Hey! Ya so this video in particular is focused on the Bryne Variation. Be3 is usually paired with f3 and is seen as more of a 150 Attack idea against the Pirc. (By the way, if f3 is not played and we see Be3 and then Qd2, we will play Ng4 and the Bishop can't run backwards as the queen is there.) All that to say, Be3 is a 150 idea and I made a video on this as well. Here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/laLUkoqgoL6VrNE

@@TheChessGiant I was half-joking :). Of course was nice to watch these lines, only thing that hurts if your opponent backwards Be3 and you can't use them in game :).
