Chess Openings: Learn to Play the Pirc Defense Against the Chinese Variation!
The Pirc Defense is on the best chess openings for black against e4. There are other good chess opening systems including the French Defense, Scandinavian Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, and Sicilian Defense. However, the e4 player is usually pretty well prepared for these when it comes to the opening theory. On the other hand, many players do not prepare for the Pirc Defense. I am an e4 player and I ignored this opening for a very long time for two reasons.
Reason #1: I rarely saw the Pirc Defense played in tournaments.
Reason #2: I assumed I could figure out what to do when I saw it since it didn't look intimidating.
The Pirc Defense might not look that strong the first move, as it simply gives white full control of the center. However, just like the Alekhine's Defense and Black Knights' Tango, this is exactly what we want! The Pirc Defense has amazing chess opening ideas, chess opening strategy, and chess opening principles. The lines and variations of the Pirc Defense are second to none, and it can help you beat higher rated players. The Pirc Defense is a good chess opening for intermediate players, as it requires some level of chess skill but can also help you improve at chess fast. The Pirc is not an opening which you can learn in 5 minutes, but that's part of why it's so strong. Similar to the Sicilian Najdorf, the Pirc Defense is complicated but well worth the investment. Much of the time, you will be more prepared for the opening and middlegame lines/variations and will be much more comfortable. On top of that, you will grow in your chess skills and understanding of chess as a whole.
Today's video covers what to do against the Chinese Variation. In this beginner's chess lesson, we will cover the chess opening theory, chess opening strategy, chess opening variations, chess opening lines, chess opening principles, chess opening ideas, chess opening tricks, chess opening moves, and chess opening traps so that you are prepared for whatever comes your way! The Chinese Variation is a dangerous variation to play against Pirc Defense players, and that's exactly why I made this video! It might seem a little bit scary at first, but if you understand these lines and variations, you will be well on your way to winning more chess games. I hope you enjoy learning how to play the Pirc Defense against the Chinese Variation!

Hey Solomon, could you bundle all the Pirc videos into a playlist please? Thanks a lot

You can also start your own KZbin video library collecting videos of particular openings. My library has dozens of collections of various openings, in which Solomon's videos figure prominently. My most reviewed video is easily his video on the Vienna Game.

Clicking on that let's you create collections you can name whatever you want, that are accessed by clicking on "Library". There doesn't seem to be any limit. I have over fifty collections of chess openings and different genres of music.

I have never heard of this variation before. Black could easily get into trouble if he doesn't know what to do. Thank you for posting this. Another great opening video that everybody who plays the Pirc needs to study. I have expressed interest in the past in the Czech Pirc, which consists of the moves d6, Nf6, and c6. There are few videos on this opening, which I have learned is because it's usually considered a variation of openings like Philidor's Defense, the Black Lion Defense, or the Old Indian Defense. It would be really cool if you could gather all these variations into a cohesive opening system.

That's so weird. I requested the Czech Pirc a few days ago as well. It's the hottest defensive system of the moment and needs to be covered here.

That g4 by White is a problem variation in my old standby Philidor/Old Indian, even with no fianchettoed bishop there. Yes, if you can weather these Spike attacks, White is kind of a ruptured duck! Thanks this vid today, Solomon.

A suggestion. You have created a huge collection of tutorials for viewers. It's informative,concise and easy to follow. However it's difficult to search for what we want. For example if I want to view the Pirc defence variations. I have to scroll to all the list and finally find it. It would be nice if you could have seperate playlist for different openings and it's variations. Just a suggestion.thanks

that was an exciting early king side attack idea for white though. Would love to see something like that work against slow defenses. I am going against .e6 .b6 .fianchetto a lot right now. makes me over extend in center. was looking for a flanking attack early to combat e6b6 stuff.
@TheChessGiant
@TheChessGiant 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dwight! Ya this is a fun variation for white, I'm surprised it's not played more often especially in blitz. And ya, I will have to think on that - it's really hard to attack e6/b6 setups as well as the Hippo. I'll have to think on this - would be good to make a video covering how to go against general systems like this.

@@TheChessGiant The only reason I thought of it was a recommendation from another chess KZbinr (Stjepen aka HangingPawns) that Pirc/Old Benoni players like myself need to have passing familiarity with the Grunfeld because some lines transpose. Thanks for all your content & interaction.
