In one moment, this man changed Dallas’s life

The Chosen

3 жыл бұрын

You may know the story of how The Chosen was birthed from failure. While Dallas was struggling to make sense of why his movie had failed at the box office, and was facing an uncertain future, a man he'd never met reached out at three in the morning to share something God told him to say. That moment changed Dallas's life forever and in many ways is responsible for The Chosen.
Dallas has never met Alex in person, but on a recent livestream, he brought him on to chat verbally for the first time. Alex's side of the story is beautiful.

@@LovelovelyJesus as much as i agree with you i do not. reason being we will see them change over time with Jesus. the acting in this is superb and honestly think nothing should be changed. anyone that knows the Word knows John is not creepy, but try seeing it from a point of view of the nonbeliever. they would agree to that statement as anyone whom lives off bugs in the wilderness would be considered creepy in todays world. after all they are not portraying John as creepy but showing the views of those whom dont understand. may the Lord bless you and have a great day :)

@@LovelovelyJesus So... when you read about the description of John in the Bible, does he seem normal to you? In that day and age, did people go around wearing a camel hair outfit and eating locusts with honey? I don't know about you, but I am a flawed person. I have had thoughts of people who seem strange to me that weren't particularly polite. Is that wrong? In a way it is... but is it human? I think it is. Should we rise above that? Probably. But should we expect perfection? You might be perfect. But I know I'm not... I'm quite flawed... that's why I need God's grace.
@created4el
@created4el 3 жыл бұрын
@@LovelovelyJesus Nowhere does the Bible say that John the Baptist was universally accepted and viewed as normal by everybody except for certain Pharisees and Sadducees and scribes. But, as you rightly point out, scripture does hold John the Baptist in high regard. One verse that you forgot to mention is when Jesus said, "I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” (Luke 7:28 ESV) However, the question is not whether John the Baptist is regarded highly in scripture or not. That is a red herring to this discussion. I fully agree that John the Baptist is regarded highly in scripture. And I also believe John the Baptist is regarded highly in the Chosen series. So, the question is this, is calling John the Baptist, "creepy John", a response that some might have had in that day and age? If this is an unreasonable idea then Dallas was wrong in even suggesting it. For example, a book that portrays Jesus as having a sexual affair with Mary Magdalene is ludicrous because there is neither scriptural, cultural or any other indication to even consider such a thought. But, could some people have though John the Baptist was a bit different if not creepy? I personally think the answer is yes, after all, he was clearly different in how he dressed. You might disagree. If he were not different, you would not know how he dressed. The fact that scripture points out his different attire shows that John the Baptist is indeed different from everybody else. So if I believe it could be possible that some thought John the Baptist was creepy while you don't then the possibility is obviously there by the fact that we disagree. So, if this is a possibility then is being honest about it not actually a better thing than trying to pretend that Christianity and the early Christians were absolutely flawless? Were the early Christians not rude? Ever? Did they walk along peacefully together singing "Cumbaya" the whole time? Of course not. I personally think Dallas' effort to honestly present what the interactions between Jesus, the disciples and the community at large was like is refreshingly honest. I think he takes us places where we hadn't ever considered and maybe don't want to go but in all honesty, the script probably reflects reality more than some of us are comfortable with which is apparently the issue that you have. The question for you is do you idolize these saints like Paul, John the Baptist, Peter, etc.? Is there no wrong that they did? Did they have no character flaws at all? Is talking about the imperfection of the saints a sin? Is it better to present the saints as perfect or is it better to show they were flawed but otherwise fully normal humans like the rest of us? Personally, if we can't be honest about the people in the past, then we are hypocrites who aren't being honest which stains the truths that we are called to proclaim. Think about it... for me, seeing the scene where John and James were so disgusted with having to deal with the Samaritans, I was initially shocked to consider that thought. But after thinking about it for a moment, the Jews of that time hated the Samaritans and the Samaritans obviously hated them. That's why the Jews didn't just walk through Samaria but they intentionally went the long way around it. Portraying James and John as these Samaritan hating Jews showed them to be rude. At that moment, I thought they were rather unlikable. In fact I was kind of mad at them at that moment. But considering the culture, I think it was actually quite honest. And even after Jesus ascension, Peter had to be given a vision to make him receive someone who was not a Jew. Believe it or not, being God's chosen people (talking about the Jews and not the 12) gave those Jews a bit of a racist attitude towards those who were obviously not chosen. Not saying that is a reason to treat Jews poorly today, but rather just pointing out to what was the reality which we should honestly deal with to help us understand where we came from and how we got here and actually why our worldview is actually the right one because it is the honest one. To me, reflecting on their imperfection and growing sanctification is a reminder that Christians are not perfect. We do not have a perfect past. But unlike those with other worldviews, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us and correct us. During the time of slavery, Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, by and large, condoned slavery. But, if it wasn't for one faithful servant to influence those who were also Christians that he could influence is what led to the abolition of slavery in Europe and in the US. Protestants (specifically non-heretical Bible believing Protestants) were pro-abortion when abortion first became officially legal but they've repented and are now mostly pro-life. As for me...I was born a sinner. I have repented. But I still sin. I am only made holy by the blood of Jesus. But in reality though that makes me sin-free in the eyes of God, in all practicality, I keep tripping over myself and sinning...hardly a picture of a sin-free person. But am I sinning less than before? Absolutely. I just have not yet been remade perfect in this life of mine. But I look forward to perfection in the life to come. So, maybe you think of yourself as perfect and sin free now and that is why you think the apostles were perfect and sin free... always polite...singing cumbaya... getting along... well... I would suggest you take a closer look in the mirror and ponder what Paul meant when he said, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23 ESV), and what the ramifications are in our lives.

I’m really glad you guys posted this. My friend is in musical theater (college) and she’s in the process of writing her dream musical. But yesterday, something happened (I’ll keep it at that for her privacy) and she got in such a depression because someone with authority in her theater group doesn’t want her to write it. She has a tendency of trying to do everything herself and has a hard time trusting God to take over. I told her what he told you: bring the loaves and fish, not feed the 5000. It really struck her and I think it’s helping her think differently about how she’s supposed to work. Thank you so much!

My Catholic Faith has been so very enriched by The Chosen. I'm so glad that this gentleman encouraged Dallas and perhaps was an instrument of God which gave Dallas the courage to create and move forward with the Chosen. I never tire of speaking about and promoting The Chosen to anyone who lends me their ear. My job is to plan a monthly event for some some of most wealthy and very Catholic couples in New Orleans. We meet for prayer, Holy Mass and then a dinner with a speaker. During a recent gathering at which we were blessed to have a huge video screen, I set it up to have the Season 2 Trailer shown to the members. God worked it out that our Master of Ceremonies this night was a "Chosen" fan and did a wonderful job setting up the 3 minute clip. Since then I'm so touched by the members who are contacting me to let me know how much they are enjoying it and how it has enlivened their faith. THANK YOU DALLAS JENKINS! Finally, during this time of covid, one of my least favorite things is having to wear a mask, except during Mass. When the priest reads the readings from scriptures, I can see what is occurring and I can feel what they must be feeling and I weep. It's a very wet experience behind that mask. Glad that is concealed. That man may have changed Dallas' life, but Dallas has changed the lives of so many others through his openness to God's promptings!! God bless you Dallas Jenkins and everyone connected with The Chosen!

So powerful testimony! I and my husband was going through a tough time. I watched season 1 of "The chosen" on youtube. Since then I was trying to watch some of the interviews. It touched my heart so much. I was hesitating to use my talents for the Lord. I was confused about how I will use it or will I be able to use it. I was feeling so down. God has given me the talent to write worship songs in my mother language(Bengali). The chosen, your interviews, your wife's role, and another pastor Rick Waren's daily devotional especially his "Shape" devotional has changed my view and the depth of my faith. I can not wait to see "The chosen " series in my own language. Lots of love and greeting to your team from Bangladesh!

I am a catechist and my students are 13 to 15, and that's a hard group to teach because many never got the basics at home. I keep their interests on the lesson by drawing (scribble) as I speak. Most of them copy the drawings and notations, but all them are quiet and at least watching the Bible story on the board. Now with the lockdown we have a virtual class and can only meet for one hour which is not enough time and it's difficult to have the q&a like before. I prayed for appropriate programs and movies, but there are so few. Then I found The Chosen and I asked my pastor to take a look and give me permission to assign it to my class. He checked it out and saw that it had approval from very good sources and he gave us permission. So now the kids can watch on their own time with their family and it has helped to add to the little bit I can give in the virtual class. Loaves and fishes!

To God be the honor and praise. Here in South Africa I am watching The Chosen as well. The show is beautiful and real and honest and is on such a relatable level. I feel like I did when as a child I'd read children's bible stories. I'm the reason for this. All God's children are the reason for this. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. It is just astounding to think how God worked through this man to give Dallas just the right message he needed at just the right time to help get this world-changing series made. I deeply understand now what "It's not our job to feed the 5000, it's just our job to bring the loaves and fishes" mean now. Just a gorgeous story. God bless these two gentlemen.

A romanian here so I'm extremely happy he received the imput through one of us ( funny enough today I woke up with the need to see 2 videos from Dallas: the Testimony of this message received from Alex, and the one with the struggle and need for pray - because of the location for season2), and at the end of the day it poped up this video . Still we are all a single nation in the eyes of God: the followers of Jesus, members of the same family, blessed in His name , through His blood! Eager to meet you all and eat at the same table!

I really love your story, Dallas and how Chosen was then created. You are so very inspiring. I’m just an average catholic person here in the Philippines. Sometimes i get confused of what’s been going on in and outside our country. I feel that it’s chaos here in Manila. Your messages and extra features on the app & youtube help me be centered & get on track. I somehow feel that the Lord is guiding me towards his plans in simple ways.God bless you, Dallas and all your supporters and cast of Chosen. Best regards to your family. ❤️😊

Never before have I prayed for a TV show's cast and crew during Mass. But I raise you, Dallas, and the entire cast and crew, up in prayer after Holy Communion at Mass and ask Jesus to send His Holy Spirit to protect, guide, and guard you. You are literally fulfilling Christ's command to preach His gospel to all the corners of the world. May God prosper the work of your hands.

I watched on Sunday . My outlook totally changed. I got emotional as well. I had a statue of Mary ,that had fallen over in my yard . It was in plants so you couldn't see it. While watching The Chosen, I went out and put it up, in my front yard. Very heavy concrete statue. I didn't know Mary was Lily. I have been telling people on line . Everybody is so 😡 I feel at peace ☮️☮️🕊️🕊️ I believe God 🙏 led me to this show. I have been struggling with depression for a long time. I am Catholic , but never carried it on after I left home. Amazing how this one show can change me so much. I'm watching it for the second time. THANK YOU!! You will save people , God 🙏 speaks to us , we just have to listen. It was loud and clear to me yesterday.
