Love your videos!! I have recently started my own wood working business. I have the Shapeoko 5 pro CNC and looking into adding a laser to my arsenal what do you consider the best all around laser machine? I don’t want to buy one and wish I had went with a step up soon after getting it. I would like to do wood, tumblers and other engravings. Thank you in advance for your input and keep up the good work.
@TheClackShack4 ай бұрын
The biggest variable is the work area. They range widely. The Roly MK2 is a good all round machine if you want it enclosed. The work area is the only limitation. I love my Atomstack machines but I build my own enclosures.
@TymMontgomery4 ай бұрын
@@TheClackShack I have the work area. I would like for it to be enclosed so I don’t have to make an enclosure but not a deal breaker. If you had to buy one machine that can do the most which would it be. I’m drowning in research and reviews and you have tested several and do awesome work so your opinion weighs a lot. Thanks again for quick response!!!!

Great video. I'm seriously considering the P3 with the 2 in 1 though most of what I would engrave is wood. You mentioned that the head had to be pretty close to the surface of the engraving. Do you think it would be able to engrave inside a 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep recess like on a tray and still get close to the edge without hitting?
@TheClackShack3 ай бұрын
If you use current position. Not many machines are gonna have 1/2 inch clearance. That is more of a job for a galvo
@MSManuel-612 ай бұрын
@@TheClackShack Thanks that's good to know. Do you know what the maximum z-axis height is for engraving on the P3. For instance, could I engrave on 2" thick material?

I would like to see what the IR does to brass engraving. So does this machine come in a 24 diode and the IR together or 48 diode and IR?
@TheClackShack4 ай бұрын
It can engrave brass, it makes a grey to black engrave. To get a combo module, it is 10 & 2. The 24 and 48 are not combo modules. You could swap the module out and have a 24 or 48 also.

Happy New Year, Not sure if you're still monitoring comments on this video, but I'm hoping you might be able to help me with some setup on the P3 2 in 1. After watching this review, I ran a test on some anodized aluminum cards with settings of 300, 400, 500 and 600 mm/s and power of 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 with an interval of .051 with the IR laser. My card was pretty much unmarked. I could barely make out the engraving where I noticed your example showed a nice white engraving. Is there something simple I might be missing in setting this up? Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
@TheClackShack20 күн бұрын
Were you using the IR beam? Also, make sure focus is correct. i run 100% power. Not all cards are the same but it should work if they are anodized.
@MSManuel-6120 күн бұрын
@@TheClackShack I am using the IR beam. I set the focus with the lever on the side of the laser module. I also checked my orders from Amazon and it says the cards are anodized. I've had no issues engraving wood with the diode I was even able to cut out some ornaments using settings from one of your videos. Just the IR seems to be giving me problems. Back to the drawing board I guess. Thanks.

So I’m curious, would you rather have this p3 dual laser over the atomstack a12 or a24 for a portable laser for shows to just engrave with? I know you had mentioned you use the atomstack now as your portable set up. I do a lot of aluminum signs and the ir is interesting. Thanks for the video
@TheClackShack4 ай бұрын
The dual laser module is good for engraving, the 24 watt is a bit faster on wood. If I had a 24 watt and the 2 in 1, that would be sweet. For cutting, I would get a 48 watt to slap on there.

Now, comparing this machine against the roly mk2, which one is better in your opinion.?
@TheClackShack3 ай бұрын
The Roly doesn’t have the IR laser built in. They both are capable of very similar results, the Roly is built a little stronger. As always, usage will dictate which one is better for each situation.

Dave, do you think there comes a point where we are better off with lower power lasers? The chance to have 60 and 70 watt units is tempting but the reviews I’ve seen for those have involved a lot of burned items.

Unfortunately in order to get the combo head you can only get a 10W diode. They do have a 24/48watt head but it doesn't offer the IR. So basically the combo head is the same thing that the xTool F1 has in it. Bigger but not as fast as the F1.
@TheClackShack4 ай бұрын
Yes, they do offer the larger modules as a quick swap. It is a different animal than the galvo machines.
