In this video we meet up with George Pooley and he shows us his very rare 1973 BSA X-75 Hurricane. There was only six of these bikes made by BSA and this is one of them.

I know there is ONE original built by Vetter in blue and white livery and saw a picture of it. I have a 73 Hurricane bought in 1983. I have a BSA rubber stopper in the tank instead of a plain one to remind me this was in fact supposed to be the last BSA!

What a beauty! Two spontaneous thoughts: 1. This bike was perfect for the psychedelic hippie trail of its time. 2. Unfortunately, every new motorcycle is still a pre-war bike today, because wars are still being started...

What a bike. Many years ago I had the chance to buy a used but perfect condition rebadged Triumph Hurricane right off the showroom floor. But I was a broke student at the time. I could weep.

The forks look longer than on the production Triumph versions. The overall styling is really more flat tracker than chopper. Lovely bike!

Good old BSA. From the 1950s motto "One in Four Worldwide is a BSA" to becoming hidebound clods who couldn't make a right decision to save their lives.

I remember when this bike was released back in the early '70's and I thought it awful, I used to say 'styled in America and it should have stayed there' but now it think it looks great. I had a BSA A65 Thunderbolt at the time followed by a T160, so seeing that Triumph Quadrent brought back some memories.....

I saw in the flesh for the first time in the car park of Queen street station in Glasgow on my way back from my 1st year at Paisley Tech one night. I thought it looked stunning personally. I said to myself I want one of these one day and indeed in 1983 after a spell working in the Persian Gulf, I bought one........ and it’s sitting in front of me in my garage in New York as I write this. Wife wants me to get rid of it as it takes up space and I rarely ride it. My last road bike was a BSA Lightning with a Devimead conversion back between 1977 and 1979.

I'd like to ask George if his Hurricane has the much better headwork common to Rocket 3's and earlier 4 speed Tridents, and also if it's geared slightly lower, by means of a larger back sprocket. I know that the early Tridents {and mk1 and mk2 Rockets} were good for about 125 MPH and didn't feel out of puff at 110 like the 1973 T150V I had when I was a lad of 17.

I would have said the gear/ brake levers were changed in 1973 when they got the 5 speed gearbox and front disk.... but it seems I would be wrong. Google tells me 1976 was when they changed.

It is a single fibreglass moulding with a steel petrol tank hidden inside. Only about 2gallon capacity, so a realistic range of about 60 or70 miles. Not a practical bike to ride but as cool as you like.

@@philhawley1219 In the late 60's and early 70's 50 miles between fuel stops was a regular ordeal. The little peanut (not a Harley Sportster tank, but genuine custom Peanut tank) held less than 2 gallons on my BSA chopper in the USA

1 exhaust either side to ballance the look would have been much better. 3 on 1 side just looks silly. This was BSA's problem. Wanting to please the American Market. The sales there were huge.
