Your saddle obsession paid off! Ziggy is probably confused by all the attention you are giving him for his comfort. I am sure many different people saddling him and throwing a leg over him has made him a little detached and fidgety. He is certainly in the best possible place for him at this time. All the things you said, plus he's not paying attention at all. Still avoids you when you go towards him every time you approach. There's still no connection with you. He's just used to being used , saddled, stranger on his back and off he'd go. No love from people, no connection. Arabs are very people oriented and him being aloof from people says all you need to know. He's never been shown love of any kind. Sad. Saddle looks good. Small and light. So happy you have him.❤

I’d be literally twice defaced without helmets while motorcycling, and likely seriously brain damaged from various falls from horses. Helmets are the rule for me, and full coverage clothing even in hot weather.

I had a lesson horse trip and fall at the walk quite unexpectedly a few weeks ago, and even with my helmet I got a concussion and I'm still recovering 😔 Helmets protect externally from skull fractures etc, and absorb some of the force but your brain still slams into your skull at high velocity 😣 Helmets w MIPS technology can help with the rotational forces that can cause shearing of the axons of your neurons so helmets definitely should always be worn to help mitigate TBI/traumatic brain injury. I also wear a safety vest even though I don't jump or compete, and it definitely helped save my ribs as I landed between him and the wall on my head and my flank slammed into the wall. - a Neurosurgery PA ⚕️🧠

Yes! Me too, every Bday/Christmas it was all I ever asked for🙏Dad was mining construction all over the country only 18mth 2years in one place my little baby brain could not take that in. So I contented myself to some mangy riding places and basically taught myself how not to fall of these sketchy rides.. had so much fun never ever wore a helmet and the worst I got was a broken collarbone and never said a thing until mum noticed cause I knew she would make a fuss…! I love it when you give detailed explanations when you are doing an assessment. Watching you run your hands down the topline (and explain you were using a lot of pressure), doing a slow motion on the tail swishes, as well as showing the nutcracker effect of the bit are those teaching moments that I especially enjoy about your channel.

When I've had a horse that was thin, and not muscled up, I start in walk, not walk/trot. I use a schedule that I found listed for bringing hunters back into work after a summer off (and they weren't having to regain weight...just firm up their muscle. You might consider a VERY SLOW increase in work at the walk. A couple I've ever just gotten on for 5 minutes the first 3 days, then 10 minutes the rest of that week (5-6 days ridden/week.) Then 15, 20, 25, 30. Increase from half hour's walking to 1 hour by 15 minutes/week. Yes, this means over 6 weeks at a walk, but it's letting both the muscles and the joints harden up, and with a horse that needs more actual muscle 2 months at a walk is not too much walking. There are dozens of gymnastics you can do at a walk with arrangements of poles, jump blocks, all sorts of things. Then start with 1-2 minutes of sustained trotting ...work up slowly to 10 minutes of steady trotting before moving to canter/lope and by then the work will be 1.5 hours and the horse's legs should be good and hard. Top line needs "tracking up" with the hind legs--bit swinging steps. Backing up, for a horse out of condition and possibly with some hock issues, is s strain and gettng all the hing leg joints and the SI joint of his back supple and easy. You certainly aren't a heavy rider, and that may not be a heavy saddle (have you weighed it?) , but this is a horse that to me looks like he needs a slower schedule. Arabs usually firm up quickly if they've got the muscle but he was in less than ideal condition. If he's getting fussy at 15 minutes...and to me he looked uncomfortable...give him 10 minutes a day and something interesting to think about. Poles, boxes, upside down buckets...things for him to move around and between, to see a reason for why you're asking for this or that turn. Let him have some straight lines (longer than in the round pen), not just turn after turn after turn...that will help him use his back better and loosen any stiffness in the SI joint.

I started riding age 8 . After that my parents got divorced and I just had 6 monthhs of lessons and fell in love with horses. There were farms around with horses and ponies so ....I got to ride troublemakers . And bareback most of the time . It helped me to get a hell of a seat , bareback at buckers . Most were just mistreated or misunderstood . I have never met a bad horse in my life..

I think Ziggy was testing you to see if you would smack him for moving to much. Cuz you know those "cowboys" at the dude ranch smacked him. Riding in AZ for 27 years more than once I had to ask them not to smack the horse I was about to mount. Some places I never went back too because of how they treated the horses and I'd let the owner know why. You were very patient and waited for him to settle. He looks good for being on vacation for so long. 🙂

Am always impressed with your courage to work with horses that are completely unknown as well as with your absolute commitment to them. On Ziggy (I think that's his name), he has a difficult backline for saddle fitting which showed up in the rear bouncing of your saddle when working him in the round pen. And with his short back, it's difficult to place the saddle so it will not hit his loins, yet also that the front of the bars do not sit on his shoulders. His back looks just like a horse I had, where I finally had to order a saddle with "Arab bars" which surprisingly is not for a flat back, but one that has a definite dip behind the shoulder. While your saddle is not perfect, with the limited time you were on him, it didn't really matter. Just keep in mind, longer periods might bring out enough discomfort that he will protest. After so many horses under my belt, they have taught me when they protest, there is a reason. Friendly advice only. I thoroughly enjoy your videos.

I love your channel and I love Ziggy and how he is coming along in his training….i would love to own a horse like him, he has a lot of potential but needs someone who will take the time to understand him and love him for himself. All animals need and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. He reminds me of another Arabian I rode once, a mare and looks a lot like her in color. I hope Ziggy will find someone special that will love him for himself and never expect more out him than he can handle. I’ve seen too many horses ridden by too many riders that ended up being ruined because of too many riders and not enough horse sense among people riding them. Basically, they were treated as machines instead of as being a living entity. It is so sad to see good horses ruined by careless, uncaring people who have NO regards to the animals wellbeing….one horse I rode, and wished I could have owned him was Tony, a half Arab/Morgan cross, well trained and a dream to ride (we bonded and I will always miss him). I loved this horse, but seen him slowly being destroyed by uncaring and cruel people. He had a rocking chair type lope which was the best part of his abilities, the other was a soft mouth and he responded to my lead with his heart, and in actuality, taught me to become a better rider because of his training alone. I could sense his movements and he could sense mine and with what I was asking of him. The last time I rode Tony was during the summer and I noticed a big change in Tony’s behavior and attitude, he was lifeless and didn’t respond as well as before with me. Due to many riders, his training was gone, people were cruel to him, they would beat him with sticks and whips, and in his mouth was a harsh curb bit, from the snaffle he once used, also he developed a lot of lameness due to being ridden hard over pavement and rocky roads…many times he came back all sweaty and breathing hard, and tired. I NEVER did any of that to him, he always would listened to me. I was able to get him back into his rocking chair lope, but it didn’t last long, he gave up. Tony was very depressed and lifeless in spirit. The following spring I came back to ride him and the owner told me that Tony died in the mountains, because he didn’t want to go back with the rest of the herd to the barn…it was around -30 below zero or more. It broke my heart. Then the owner told me he would have sold him to me for $500. That hurt even more. If I would have had a good place to have kept him, I would have bought Tony, but I lived in the city limits. All Tony wanted was for someone who would love him for himself. I would have done that with him. He was one of the best horses I have ever ridden. I seen how love can transform a horse into a friend and a good riding companion. Plus, I’ve also seen how much cruelty can destroy a good animal and take away his life. I also live in Montana……RIP TONY, may you find eternal peace in God’s loving arms and heaven’s pastures…..👍❤️🙏🏼

Thank you for today’s video, I enjoyed your commentary on how you go about your working with horses as communication between the human and a horse. It is not a dominator model of dogma but rather a communication to bring about a joint agreement of co-operation. Your ability to read what a horse may be telling you and an ability to harmonize with it a direction forward is to me why horse training is an art and not a dominator model of control. I enjoyed too you discussion of tack and the horse’s physical appraisal as being an important part of reasoning for its choice.

Ziggy is momentarily in not much of a condition.. he needs quite a x amount of hours lunging to get him to loosen his muscles and build them up again.. which,do to his age, will take longer than 'normal ' and at the same time to watch out for extra sensitive reactions from his body (meaning injuries) (this is me having trouble finding the right words in English, it isn't my first language, neither is French.. my name is a pet's name... it is a complete unpronounceable language except for just a few million people on this planet, so I just wrestle mostly in English 😅 But, I see you use the filmed footage for your benefit to watch him really well and diagnose his movements, although I should have known sinds you also have trained green Mustangs.. what was I thinking, lol I have had experience with Arabic, and they let their minds wonder really, really fast. But on the other hand, they are really good to read because they are so honest, they show everything. Can I say thank you? You are like a fresh breeze in Horse-KZbin-Land . You are like an audiobook with video footage from a horse loving girl. Who takes us all along in her horse loving life. Who reads us her horse loving Diary. Arabs take their human bonds very seriously.. The Bedouin and their horses eat the same foods, sleep in the same tent, they rarely leave their owners side. This poor sweet boy has had to work for 18 years without meeting his person. He’s probably tired of being let down or getting left behind. I am so happy you got him and will help him find his person. He’s a lucky boy to have landed at your farm, and I’m so invested in his story now. We are all praying and rooting for you and Ziggy!! My first horse was an Arab and we were besties for many yrs. First, I later learned Arabs 'think' differently and watching Zigs triggered a memory. If my mare thought we were exiting through a gate (and we didn't) she'd switch her tail just like Ziggy❤ They are SMART and prefer one person. You do such a wonderful job. We love your channel ❤

Ziggy and Scarlett are both so cute and about the same size right now, though they are many years apart. I loved hearing the reason you chose certain tack for Ziggy and what you'll do with his bridle/bit combo in the future. That is definitely a fancy snaffle that you showed us. I learn so much from listening to you. For example, I did not realize that you could train a horse to poop in one area; I just thought that some horses were tidier than others. While Ziggy may never learn the poop-in-one-place skill, it is such a good idea to try and teach this skill by leaving some of their poop in one area, to give them the idea. I love all these little tidbits. Thank you, CC. Your ride on Ziggy was very interesting too.

I just had an awesome idea. For those who can be trained to poop in one spot CC could leave part of the turd train in their run and they could back up and poop in it. That would save a lot of time scooping the poop. Probably an unrealistic idea but I thought it sounded good

For me riding without a helmet feels like being naked even if I'm just sitting on the horse while he grazes not even moving I'll have my helmet on and this saved my life, no exaggeration, 3 times. I think maybe you could have a Chiropractor take a look at him. I had two rescue horses and I can tell you it really helps loosen him up find the spot that needs adjustment

I love watching your videos. I always learn something and am grateful that you share this info with the world!! Your selection of saddles (and the budget you must work with for equipment) amazes me. Scarlet is developing beautifully and Ziggy, sweet guy, really had to pee! As a kid in the 60's on a 200-acre Wisconsin farm with 5-10 horses at any given time, I was lucky enough to eventually have a saddle. I rode bareback. Then again, I started at age 5. Yours is the only You Tube channel that I watch. It makes me appreciate my youth, my love of horse (and all critters), and I thank you deeply.

Scarlett is a beautiful horse. I had an American Saddle yearling that looked so much like her when I was young. I had to sell her because it became too expensive to board her. Her name was My Sally Haines.

Arabs do often have quite 'shallow' mouths, and the fact that the jaw is often narrow only exacerbates the issue with jointed bits. I often rode my Arabs in a mullen-mouth snaffle or a double-jointed one with a nice flat centre link.

Ziggy looks like he is having some issues with the saddle going to the left. Having started hundreds of Arabs and 1/2 Arabs I know how hard fitting a saddle to them is. It LOOKS like it fits quite nicely but his reaction makes me question it. Also, be looked like he was going to pick up a canter which is when he would react most to a saddle fit issue. Keep up the good work and he'll be a nice one-I LOVE an Arab.

I have a cat named George (as in hug him and squeeze him and love him and call him George). This fine fellow thinks he has been sadly assigned the wrong duties. He thoroughly believes that he was born to be a HOUSE CAT. Making matters worse my wife has trained him by allowing him to come inside when she opens the door to feed him and his compadres. He’s fast too and if you aren’t paying attention when you open the door he’s in like a flash. My wife has taught this cat that he can come in and flop over on his back and she will give him a belly rub (which he finds to be the greatest thing ever). Then she picks him up and hugs him and squeezes him and calls him George and puts him out with the others to eat. Well George is pretty smart for a cat so now every time the door opens he’s like a little furry lightning bolt zooming into the house. The problem is that I stay here by myself in the daytime and I can’t bend over to grab the little rascal and he’s figured that out. He flops down on the floor and just lays there. I’ve tried pushing him with my foot but he easily evades me so it can take a while until he’s finally repatriated to his proper place. Our outside cats have insulated condos made from Styrofoam coolers that were used to ship meat. Well yesterday I was in a hurry because I had a doctor’s appointment and I wasn’t paying attention and when I opened the door he was in like a flash. I tried the usual methods to remove this little loafer. But his house cat wannabe was strong and he dodged and twisted like the little furry maniac that he is. Things were getting just a bit tight because I had to leave or be late. (I’m very anal retentive about being on time.) Well I was getting desperate when I saw a broom sitting in the corner. Only yesterday I had seen a video of three women doing curling, but instead of that big hockey puck thing someone had edited a cat in place of the hockey puck thing. Inspiration struck so I opened the door and got the broom and curled old George right out the door. He gave me a really dirty look and flounced off in a huff went over to his condo and parked his little furry butt while glaring at me and I’m sure he was muttering obscenities under his breath. He had taken his best shot and been defeated by an old geezer with a broom. I think I hurt his pride.

Love listening to your commentary. You do such a good job of explaining everything you do and why. You could teach classes to horseman wannabe’s! 😁 I know even though I’m in my 70s I’m learning more from you than I did from my Dad when I lived on a farm and had my own horse! (He didn't have the time to explain the whys and wherefores.) Makes me wish to be young again and start over owning a horse. Thanks for an enjoyable time! ❤
