A few years back now I answered an internet posting where a mom and her young daughter were camping and riding in Montana and were looking for somebody to show them some trails in NW Montana. I had them come down and stay at the fairgrounds where we have camper hookups and stalls for horses etc. and I took them out on some trails in the mountains behind my house. The little girl had a little grey Arab like this one that was hands down the BEST kids horse I have ever seen. You know what I do for a living so you know how many horses I see, and I am not kidding you that little Arab was amazing! Super gentle, very kind, always controlled himself and watched out for his rider etc. If my kids were still young I would have no problem snapping up an Arab with that kind of temperament in a heartbeat. FWIW Bay and grey are hands down my two favorite horse colors. The only thing I dislike about greys is the propensity for melanomas.

We have a spicy older Grey Arab mare. She has a few melanomas , we have our vet keep an eye on. My grandkids ride her every sat when we host Saddle up Saturday for them. We have 8 grandkids from 16 down to one year old. I make a huge crockpot of soup, a veggie tray and snacks . They all come over and ride our horses. We love it

You be surprised a lot of light coloured animals get melanoma cancers , I have a Beautiful white whippet and he had some cut out of him but I was told they might return and they have , he has them popping up all over him so needless to say his final days when he goes is going to be very heart breaking , I won’t be getting any light coloured animals in the future now knowing this with melanomas , so sad.

I'm and old lady and what you call a "snow storm" my generation called a "snow fall". 😊 There were what we called' light snow falls and 'heavy snow falls',' windy' or 'calm' (for no wind or very little wind). The word "storm" was reserved for when you couldn't see three feet in front of you which we saw more than we would have liked. So when you say "snow storm" I am picturing "near zero visibility". To my surprise I could hardly see any snow at all. We'd call that "trying to snow". 😆😆😆 Glad the new fella is turning out to have only minor problems.

Hi Clever Cowgirl, me and my Mrs are loving your videos! The slow pace and your humor is so refreshing and watching them is a nice way to wind down in the evening. I think it’s a trend with slow paced videos with down to earth content as the world else seems to gone mad. Here in Sweden a live stream of the yearly moose migration has been very popular for years now. They call it slow-tv and started 2019 with over 5 million watched hours. No comments, just several cameras that livestream where you can see mooses, reindeers, bears etc crossing rivers, searching for food and so on. I don’t know if these streams are available outside of Sweden, but I think several other countries has shown interest. I know Germans are crazy about our mooses. Have a great day everyone that follow this channel! 🇸🇪👋

My flea bitten gray horse had a melanoma under his tail when I got him (at about age 10) and one on his chest. The vet said in her experience it was worse to take them off as the cells can spread. I experienced this with my cat that had breast cancer. The first rumor was removed and it came back with a vengeance. My horse lived to 32 and had a number of melanonas by then. They never bothered him and they didn't kill him...he died with them, not from them. Hopefully Ziggy will be as lucky. ❤

@bernadettecartin 4 ай бұрын
@@JoC-mp6sf Okay, thanks for that info. I wonder if that's what eventually did my sister's excellent pony in. He was awesome, 13.2, beefy, very cobby. He was always very smeggy, even right after having his sheath cleaned. Eventually he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, and had the last four inches of his penis amputated. He did well after, she rode him for a few more years after that and retired him. He'd colic once in a while throughout his life, but always mild. In the last year of his life, he colicked badly enough in early fall that it needed intensive treatment, not the bellyache that caused mild discomfort and passed. But he got through that. Then on New Year's morning of 2009, he colicked again, and my sister got the emergency vet out asap. I saw him first and told her, but had to be out all day into the evening for a job. The vet treated him and had to come back because he wasn't getting any better, and she left my sister with a really strong pain killer shot for later if needed. I got home later in the evening. It was bad. She eventually gave him that shot but it did nothing. We realized he was dying in agony. The vet was far enough away that if she could have come that second she wouldn't get there in time to put him down. It was the worst helpless feeling, I know many here have been there. Anyway, my theory for years has been that maybe he also had tumors in his intestines, either spread from the squamous or just other cancers, that would periodically cause partial blockages that eventually passed until the last time. I don't know what vets knew about how to tell what kind of colic a horse had at that time, whether there have been advances in the past 15 years or if it hasn't changed. I wasn't there when the vet was out, so don't know what she told my sister about what she was finding or even if she could tell anything specific. Maybe he had what your horse had.

We've had two grey horses and both had to be euthanised because of their melanomas. One was an older horse which we still rode, mostly me, because I was a kid. He was the first horse in my life who had to be put to sleep. A tumour up in his nose must've burst and bright red blood was coming out of his nose. I'll never forget that. The second horse was only fourteen when the mucus tissue of her anus was turning into a bunch of tumours, meaning they couldn't do their job to expel her poop. When the vet put the first round of sedatives, she came to me and put her head into my arms. If I can help it, I'd rather never own a grey horse in my life again. The irony is that I've started getting lessons again, and I'm riding a roan grey Criollo horse who reminds me of our second horse.

What a difference in how Nigel looks now from when you brought him home. He's a little beauty !! I break open vitamin E capsules on wounds that have scabbed over. Seems to work well. That is actually a very common place for it! Since gray horses change color over time it is thought that their is a genetic component linked to cells turnover. Very interesting stuff! Unlike humans, sun exposure has not been shown to increase the risk in gray horses.

It's not like cancer in humans and is probably nothing to worry about. Most greys who get them just live with these little lumps and never have a problem, unless the lumps grow somewhere that interferes with saddling, or internally. My old horse (a grey Arab x, very like the horse in the video) had a few, and they never bothered him or needed any treatment. He died of quite unrelated problems.

I am not a “horse person”; don’t get me wrong, I love horses but I have very limited experience with them. My aunt has owned horses for as long as I can remember and I’m almost 60. I’m drawn to your channel because I love your approach and the care that you show towards them. There are too many professionals out there that do not take that same care or have the needed patience with some horses.i love what you do and love seeing Huckleberry, Tiny, and now Regnar (sp?). I hope that you feel better and heal soon! Sending love, prayers, and blessings from Michigan 💕

Good news and not unexpected news. Looks like he will shape up really nice with good diet and some extra care. I think you made a fantastic purchase for sight unseen. Also glad you are on the mend. Nothing is more frustrating than having plans in the works and then getting laid up. I sympathize! Take care with the ankle and look forward to more on the new horse. I’ve seen several good name suggestions in the comments. It will be interesting what will fit him. ❣
