Every night my cat “Butch” will remind me with a tap on my leg and a very vocal meow. I’ll tell home “if you want to be brushed then go get the brush” off he goes to his box and soon he’ll come back with one of many brushes I have for him. It’s funny how in the spring it’s usually the shedding blade he brings to me. My dad saids that cat is smarter then 90% of the human population.

Search: Horsehair Know How-Western Folklore Center “Tools of the Trade: Braided, Twisted and Tied / Horsehair Know How Traditionally, there were three basic ways to work horsehair: twisting, hitching, and braiding or plaiting. Ropes are mostly twisted. Bridles and quirts are hitched, and belts and hatbands are either hitched or braided.” - From Trappings of the Great Basin Buckaroo by Jeff Sailors “…As the twister twists, you feed this hair out and it makes one strand. You'll twist maybe six of those single strands, and then you'll take three of the single strands and you'll twist them back together, around each other, in the opposite direction. And that holds them together. And you twist three together, then you twist three more together, so now you have two strands of three each. Then you double those two strands in half so that you have four strands, and then you twist them the opposite way, which is the way you twisted the single strands to start with. And when you twist them back together, those four, it twists back together real tight and then you have a finished product. That's called a mecarty.” - By Horseman and gearmaker Randy Stowell

HOLY SMOKES! Takes me back to my youth & brushing out winter coats, however, we were in the Burbs of Seattle, Wa. and the horses had blankets in the winter. Spoiled, huh! I did help groom the school horses (no blankets) but everyone had an inside stall. It's amazing how animals adapt in nature. At one time I felt sorry for horses outside in winter - after I got older the horses with only limited turnout (4 hrs daily) all had mental problems - weaving, cribbing, biting stall bars....like being in jail 20 hours a day. It was very relaxing watching you take off the horses winter coats. They all seem happy, even those that had a rough start......Thank You for being so KIND😊❤❤

We can all see how much you truly appreciate each one individually, Including your precious fur babies, your kitty Tiny, and dog Huckleberry. Life is not easy, and it takes a great amount of work and persistence. When I watch you I see not only a "clever cowboy", but a lovely, caring, hard working woman, who is unique in her own ways. This was so nice to see the horses up close, being brushed, and it allowed us to see their beautiful markings better. I did miss Nigel though, another little , precious ,unique, beauty, but I understand. Within 6 months I lost my youngest dog (6years old) in a freak accident, moved to the city and have to have my other large dog (same age) essentially fostered until I can fence in the yard and get a handle on the neighbors feral cats, and then I lost my soul dog (12 years old) to heart failure last month. It’s been so rough personally, but being able to forget all my problems- even for just 5 minutes- and having my heart soothed by your lovely voice and narration, brings me a little joy and peace. Thank you for sharing your life with us and giving me a break from an empty home.
