I've watched your channel for years and recently restored my grandmothers 1937 Singer 99k and she sews beautifully. I can see why you love this machine, even the sound she makes is so lovely, like a cats purr.

So today while I was at work, my hubby told me one of my sewing machines was on our porch (my machine collection is stored in my little closet out there, along with my Christmas and Halloween decor) and I panicked that someone had stolen from us. But nothing was missing...I think my neighbor gave me their machine! I haven't looked too closely at it, but it is a Singer and it looks a lot like your 99k, including the simple base (without the latches or top, though). I thought you and the community might might enjoy/celebrate my luck with me. That coat is excellent btw ❤

Seems silly to offer a sewing tip to an expert sewer, but I suggest that you trim the seam edges closely to the seam along curves instead of using the triangle "clip curve" method. The triangles can show through the outer surface of the fabric, especially when ironed and can be pretty unsightly and lumpy. This can be specially true with sheer or satin fabrics. I think using this method would making ironing around the vinyl designs much easier. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
@kathyjohnson2043Ай бұрын
Another option is to trim them to different widths. Sometimes one technique works better than others. I guess you could try all 3 at once, trim one short and triangle cut the other.

I'm in the UK, but being a knitter first, and a huge fan of Elizabeth Zimmermann, I've always worked in inches instead of cm, which confuses my husband no end!
@expatpiskieАй бұрын
I'm also in the UK. I find inches a lot easier to picture than cms. It's roughly the length of the first joint of my thumb which saves a lot of getting the tape measure out until I'm close to the length I need.
@petapendlebury9024Ай бұрын
And me too! I'm old enough to have learnt imperial in primary school and then metric came in at age 10. Very confusing! I still prefer to work in imperial as like you I can 'see' inches, etc instinctively but centimetres take more brain power 😊

I’m pretty sure any low shank presser foot will fit on your 99k. I have a 1954 model 66, which I believe is the larger version of the 99k and I can use low shank presser feet on it.
@RychaardRyderАй бұрын
the singer 99k (especially as yours appears to be made post-1930s by the decals) is a low shank presser foot machine, so you can buy any low shank foot you'd like, most basic/domestic home sewing machines use low shank so you can use modern feet on your 99k, or if you buy a set, you can even get a snap on presser foot adapter to snap on various low shank feet attachments, though personally I dont like how chunky and plasticky it looks but sometimes its easier than finding specialty vintage feet,
