I loved my undercut. When I was hired for one of my previous jobs, I had half of my hair gone, but the rest was down to my lower back. I simply put it in a low ponytail, did the interview, got the job. Kept in a low ponytail for months after that. During a lunch, coworkers and manager were talking about hair and stuff like that and I made an offhand comment about only having half of mine. Manager stares at me for a long moment, asked me what I meant by that and I said "Well, half of it is shaved completely off." I turned around, picked up the end of my hair and pulled up to show her. She was quiet for a long moment then said, "Well, I guess if no one's noticed it until now, it's not a big deal."

I would love to try this look! I have baby bangs however my forehead is rather short and so my bangs are incredibly short. I suppose I hide my small forehead with the bangs because I'm very self conscious about the way it looks and although it may not work for me I'm still going to try this out, you look truly fabulous! Oh the joys of not feeling hair hang on the forehead for once! Much love! 💓

Fab vid. I have the same issue with my fringe (sorry i'm english lol). What I do is use a thinner barrelled either curling tongues or an airstyler. It helps give more control with the curl. Means you can wrangle it a bit easier. x

@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
When I'm not filming probably around 30-40 minutes depending on if my curls behave in the end or not, for this video it took me around and hour because I was trying to keep things in view and then my curls weren't falling into place as well as they usually do in the end so they took some extra time to tame! I often do this style with "second day" curl, which I also have a tutorial for here on my channel, and then it is much faster. It is curling/setting my hair that takes the most time!

My daughter has beautiful curls and I want to so bad from your comment about thick hair cut them off in the back area. The problem with her hair is there is different styles and tightness of curls so they become like dreadlocks very quickly. I'm so scared to cut them because I feel they will never grow correctly again. You are very beautiful keep up the good work. I like seeing that you struggle it makes it feel more authentic to me especially because I have curly hair naturally so I tend to use my natural curls into a vintage hair style it makes no sense for me to straighten it to re-curl it. My opinion of course lol.
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Danitza! Yeah that is a tough call, I had curlier (well frizzier really) hair when I was a kid and my mom took me to get a perm once thinking it would "tame" my curl pattern somehow...but instead I just looked like a late 1980's hair band groupie for all of 7th grade! Everyone's hair texture tends to change at least a little from childhood through adulthood so perhaps her curls will settle on one size/texture of curl eventually! I am still not quite used to having straighter hair now after having much curlier hair as a kid/tween. Using natural curl for vintage styles makes total sense to me, it sounds lovely to me as curling/setting my hair is what takes me the longest ;)

Love your videos. Just wondering...do your tats have meaning?
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! They do indeed. The line of little symbols on my right arm was the first one I got, and each symbol has its own meaning. One is the deathly hallows symbol from the Harry Potter books because I grew up with the books (like many of course) and they essentially taught me to love reading, another symbol is an Egyptian ankh because ancient Egypt started off my love of history, two are alchemy symbols, and the last is a letter from Tolkien's elvish alphabet. The bee on my left arm is a little logo I have been using ever since university, and have used for my blog, and I got it for many reasons but mostly because I wanted to celebrate not giving up on blogging after years of doing it and getting nowhere. Now the same symbol is my logo here on KZbin too. People also call me bee, so I am rather attached to them in general now. I also sort of get them as a treat to myself, I love tattoos but they are expensive and require setting up appointments which is something I don't much like doing, so having them sorta feels like a special thing I gifted myself with? So when I see them it is a reminder to me to love myself in a way, because I have trouble with that often.

It's as if your hair is leading a double life! (I'm kidding, I'm not funny nor claim to be). Anywho, great video. The undercut/bangs style is fabulous. When you're not wearing vintage, are you dressing your All Black casual aesthetic? ♥️
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lele! When I am not wearing vintage I am usually at work then, or just in my pajamas around the house ;) Every once and a while I do leave the house in my all-blacks-casuals lounge goth looks, but really mostly I try not to leave the house! I'm an introverted homebody for sure. I wear my hair in its natural straight/wavy texture with the back in a little top knot and my bangs down with side pieces pulled over my ears to work so it is out of my way, and around the house. I love having a "double life" haircut now!

Kind of off topic, but what camera do you use? I am in the market for a new one, and your videos look so great. Thanks!
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, but I would not actually recommend my camera! I have a Nikon D5200 but some features can be really annoying, like that it will only record video in 20 minute segments, which means I have to remember to start recording again every 20 mins when I'm filming something! It doesn't have that tracking zoom lens that comes in such handy for youtube either. The Nikon is great for photos, but I'd choose something else for video. I want to save up for a Canon 80D instead as soon as I can.

My children have thick hair like me. The youngest is still at school so can’t have what they call “extreme” haircuts. Her pony tail was 2.5” in diameter! Our lovely hairdresser put layers in it last week to produce a “wolf cut”. Now she’s the most on trend child in the history of our family!😂 I swept up all the hair and put it in the bin….. the next morning putting more rubbish in there… well, I nearly died! It looked like someone had stuffed a body in there feet first!

Your hard earned curls actually look quite a bit like my mother's natural ones. She was born in the 40s, so got to have "in" hair naturally as a teen, but the 60's were rough. Straight nor beehive would it cooperate with.

Any tips on how to get the hair off of the curling iron after you're done with the curl? I'm using it as directed and I don't think I'm wrapping the hair too tightly. I just can't get the curl to slide off the stupid thing and I can't tell if my hair is too fine or if I'm just wildly inept. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I have never had a problem getting the curling iron out of my hair before. As long as you release the clamp the curl should slide off free. I'm not sure what's happening to make it difficult to slide the curls! Sorry I can't be of more help!
