Lockdowns may end, but introversion is forever.
I finally made a nice long slightly over dramatic robe for lounging around the house. This was rather a quick and easy project to sew together, but it did eat up a lot of fabric of course with this swooshy length. Now I can creepily sit in the dark while I edit with a cozy hood to keep my ears warm.

First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Um if Angela Clayton can draw on her silk with sharpies you can for sure use washable crayola marker, the sewing police will not come to get you❤
@raraavis7782
@raraavis7782 3 жыл бұрын
I've been doing that since circa 1995...water soluable felt tip pens, crayolas, soft (2B-6B) lead pencils...I just use whatever works best on a fabric. Works perfectly fine, most of the time. If in doubt, I'll just try it on a piece of scrap fabric before I commit. I usually leave wider seam allowances and fit as I go (no mockup), so precise markings are a must for me.
@infamoussphere7228
@infamoussphere7228 3 жыл бұрын
I mark my darts with slashes and a spike/tailor's awl unless I'm using really open weave fabric. I loathe tailor's tacks. I'll be honest and say I'm not a big fan of most hand sewing. Sewing on buttons is my least favourite part of just about any project, except for hemming by hand. It's just boring! I can have the best podcast in the world and I'm still bored! So yes, any kind of marking method that will work and won't be visible and won't destroy your fabric is worth trying
@zrebbesh
@zrebbesh 3 жыл бұрын
It's easier for me to avoid markers than remember whether they say "washable" to mean it will last through washings or "washable" to mean it will wash out. I mean, if I stop and think for an instant, I know it's the second, but my brain still does this jangly thing where I keep thinking it could be the first. So I draw on the fabric using chalk. Sensible people would use unambiguous terms like "water-resistant" and "water-soluble".

Hi, from a quilter, the easiest way to sew with big prices of fabric that are quite weighty, is to find a table with a slippery surface and put it on the left hand side of your sewing machine table at 90 degrees to it. This then takes the weight of the item, and also let's the fabric slide along as you stitch it. Also the handstitch that you are using at about 36 minutes in, is called a ladder stitch. I know you say that you are never sure of what each of the handstitches are called, now you know one of them. Finished gown looks fab by the way.

Hi, Claire. Have you seen the Burberry prorsum quilted velvet blanket coat? Cara delevigne was wearing it. Would you know what kind of batting they used or if they used any at all? Also, would quilting velvet on a heavier woolen fabric give me "tight" quilts without much sag? I'm a guy and I wanna make one with gold silk thread on black velvet with leather binding.

I've seen it hundreds of times, but as a busy mom now, I rarely have time to watch it all at once. I have to break it up haha! Incidentally, in the movie, Scarlett wears several amazing bed gowns/dressing gowns. I have just always been taught in my various pattern drafting and sewing classes that they are to be pressed towards the center and horizontal darts are to be pressed down. If you haven't encountered any problems, I figure it must not matter that much! Sometimes they are pressed in other directions for style reasons, as in when they are used as external darts for fun like I did in my leopard print dress earlier this year kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXqcnGSqn56ia7M

So nice love the colors. You make the most beautiful things. Always love to see the finished product. You must never need clothes. You must just sew whatever you need. So much nicer then the store items.. Thanks for showing us.

Thank you for demonstrating how to fix the length of the back sleeve! I was facing this problem with even the short sleeve version of the all-in-one sleeve and I just gave up and fudged it, but now I'll know how to do it correctly!

I think it happens whenever the front and back armscyes of the original pattern are a different length, but sometimes bodies are not symmetrical of course, so I just found this works as a work around 😅

I love this. One of my goal sewing projects when I'm a bit more confident is a fancy Victorian/18th century banyan style dressing gown/house coat, with frog closures and maybe quilted (my house is old and gets really cold come winter). I've always pictured it in a similar colour scheme to yours, black with dark green (or maybe dark blue) lining and trim.

The housecoat came out beautifully. I love the flannel you chose because it come across almost like a velour. Also, I may need to now make a Ravenclaw house coat because of this. And last but not least, I am going to comment about the fact that your socks don't match. :D I love it. As long as my socks are the same style, I don't care if they are the same color.

Not gonna lie, this reminded me of housecoats that my grandma had in abundance at her home)) Very Soviet Russia, in all their glorious buttons and ties and lapels, with patches that didn't match)) Until this video I didn't realise that I missed the one I wore basically until graduation. Very comfy compared to my now usual old t-shirt and old skirts/trousers.

Gremlin robes are the best kind of robes... This one looks super comfy, I love it! I was 32 (like a couple months ago) before I watched Gone with the Wind. It was very long, and the only thing I liked were two of the dresses. And maybe watching them run in these ridiculously huge dresses.

I just switched back from Alexander McQueen to watch this from the beginning... I was finally motivated to tape my generic bodice block together in preparation for the mountain climb needed for fitting it to myself. I’m not confident about fittings but it’s just old sheets that are not useful in my house... should be compostable after they live out their short lives as toiles.
