CRJ 550/700 - Cold & Dark Startup Procedure - Microsoft Flight Simulator

I'm really enjoying learning the CRJ, so much so that I came up with a checklist of my own that streamlines the steps so we get a right balance of practicality (from a sim perspective) and efficiency. For now we focus from a cold and dark start up to just right after takeoff.

First of all: your videos are superb. Don't ever change your way of making calm and nice videos like this. You really make my sim experience a lot more educational and fun :) Just bought this aircraft and although I mainly fly GA aircrafts, this is so much fun to learn. Of course it helps that I have done my fair share of flying the A32NX, but still - this is a complex and sometimes overwhelming machine. I started flying the CRJ in FSX about 2 weeks ago and love the aircraft. Waiting to get some new hardware later this year so I can run FS2020. I will definitely get this aircraft by Aerosoft when I get the sim and in the meanwhile, I am enjoying it in FSX. Your checklist for this version will be very helpful to anyone who wants to own this title. Yes there are still some bugs and issues that will need to be fixed just like with any new title upon its initial release, and when it's updated, it will be a gem of an aircraft to fly! Thank you for doing this video and I look forward to more Clumsy flying in the CRJ!

Hello, Captain Clumsy. Wow, you love pushing those buttons ;-) If this was a slimmed down version of the cold and dark start, I hate to imagine the long/regular version. As a relatively new simmer, I find the level of detail incorporated even in the smaller planes to be amazing. Still at a level where I can do rudimentary stuff with AP to get from A to B and have cut way back on bouncing or stalling during my landings. Thanks for the video and stay well sir.

Was playing around with this last night....was having weird issues with some inputs on the captain side of the cockpit weren't working (e.g. MFD range adjustment, BARO adjustment, FMS clear button did nothing). I found that I had to sometimes switch over to the co-pilot side to do certain things. Also binding a button for reverse thrust to "Toggle Reverse Thrust" doesn't work either. Also had issues where NAV wasn't working either...but that maybe related to the above issue and at some point I changed that nav source or something fiddling around with the buttons. I don't know. Was a huge step up in difficulty from the CJ4 but flying the CJ4 almost made the transition easier to a degree. Will definitely be playing around with this more but it's going to take a while until I'm comfortable enough to start streaming flights. Thanks for checklist as well.

Yeah, definitely agree! It's a great plane although some tweaks and fixes will be welcome. For reverse thrust I read and tested that mapping a key/button to "decrease throttle" command triggers the full reverse thrust. Should be good enough for now. My pleasure with the checklist! Will continue refining it as I fly more with this plane.

Clumsy thanks for the vid. I'm having trouble with my AP button. Every time I press it, I get the two green light for like 1/2 sec, a beep, but red AP in the screen. I cannot get AP to activate. Do you know what could be causing this?

It sounds like a noisy yoke/joystick. Are you moving your yoke at any point? That disengages AP. You can also double check in the EFB options, make sure that AP disconnection sensitivity is low, then save. Good luck!

Yes it seems to not use the typical commands. I mostly only use the dials in the cockpit to adjust controls.

How do I get the intergraded lights to work? Ive tried all the knobs but nothing works.

They can be quite weak in the overhead panel and in the pedestal especially during daytime. Not sure why. The integrated lights in the pilot/copilot side can be much stronger.

Love the checklist too, I have one issue though for some reason before I could enter the flex temp of 46 now it just keeps saying invalid entry, I don't know what has caused this and I have tried reinstalling the plane from the Microsoft store but no luck. Any ideas as to why all of a sudden it stopped accepting the value? Thanks.

You need to start using pushback helper to simplify the Ground services and pushback, I'm sure you're aware of the mod flightsim.to/file/853/pushback-helper-v2-0. Also importing the simbrief plan through simbrief downloader does not enter the airways. It's always DIRECT between waypoints don't know why. You can also customize the default simbrief CRJ profile to change the passenger count to 70. You ca go to My Fleet under Dispatch menu and add aircraft select CRJ to customize MTOW and Empty Weight as well as passenger seats available.

It's included, but only for the CRJ 700. The 550 has only 2 liveries but the 700 has a lot more.

Thanks! Ah yes you can set those, too, although I haven't noticed any difference with how the plane flies if you set them or not. Page 2 you can enter winds information, and page 3 is for the times. You can at least get avg wind from simbrief and place it in page 2 under cruise. Not sure how to test any changes in the plane's behavior, though.

Great to hear! On the tablet you can change states, and on the lower right corner of the tablet's screen you can change the default state.

Great to hear! Not necessarily. I just haven't had time to test them out in a while. The mods I listed there I usually enabled at one point in time, but as I switched planes and as the updates came, I've just not been able to keep up with everything and I'm not sure what the latest version is or if it still works.
