In this full and extended version of his exclusive CV Stories interview with The Coaches' Voice, Clarence Seedorf talks in depth about his coaching journey.
The former Netherlands international - still the only footballer to have won the Champions League with three different clubs - begins by talking about his late-career move to Botafogo in Brazil, and how he balanced a new footballing and cultural experience with doing his coaching badges. He then reveals how a return to his beloved AC Milan happened, and why he felt ready to take such a high-profile job in his first coaching role.
He discusses succeeding the respected Massimiliano Allegri mid-season, managing the great Kaka, and the dynamic involved in coaching players he spent years playing alongside. He also recalls his time at Deportivo La Coruna and how, unlike in Milan, his job first involved having to observe how the club was being run, and then overhauling its methods in a bid to battle a seemingly inevitable relegation.
It's a fascinating insight into the challenges faced by a legendary player making his early coaching steps at a very high level.
