"I'm going to miss you most of all scarecrow!"....most hilarious line in the movie. Also in the early '80s the Ford Pinto had such a defective fuel tank, it was famous for blowing up even in minor fender-bender accidents. That's where the Pinto explosion joke came from.

Hahaha! That was the best part of that exploding car gag! The whole cast laughed over it as they drove away in a flaming, smoke-belching German vehicle.
@beauxguss632111 ай бұрын
I remember watching it in the theater, and at the very first flash of red paint, I knew what was coming. I just knew they would barely tap the Pinto and it would explode. The genius of the Mercedes still being drivable is where they got me. And that's the beauty of ZAZ movies. So much of it is predictable that you think you're way ahead of them, but they go so many layers deep on the joke, there's not a chance in hell you'll ever even catch up.

The joke about East German womens olympic team is due to the massive doping they were practicing. A lot of women were given tons and tons of testosterone and steroids (and other stuff) resulting in a masculinization of many women. Some even stopped menstruating and developed problems to conceive later on. There is an extensive article on Wikipedia that describes it and it is really crazy the effects on many east german athletes.

The truck running into the back of the Pinto was a take on the US made Ford Pinto which would explode in a rear end collision. Perhaps it was Ford's idea of taking internal combustion from the engine bay into the passenger compartment. A $5 part would have prevented it but the car was built down to a price not up to a standard and Ford flatly refuse to fit the part. The motorcycle scene with it going over fences and a line of buses is from the movie The Great Escape. I knew a man who lived on the Berlin Wall in the days when Berlin was divided and he said that you could have any colour of car in East Germany as long as it was bleak. He also said despite what people thought the two stroke Trabant was a wonderful East German car that could be fixed by any local village blacksmith. It was happiest at 70kph any faster and it putt putted along like a lawnmower on steroids.

18:50 ... YES! they reversed the order of the sentences then recorded the whole scene in ONE CONTINUOUS SHOT then played the whole thing backwards so it sounded sort of swedish-like. Watch when Nick closes the door behind him ... you can see him fumbling for the doorknob as he had to open the door behind himself before they walked out backwards. To make that mask Peter Cushing had a face imprint made with plaster, and they later laser scanned the inside to create the 3D matte they superimposed on an actor to resurrect Grand Moff Tarkin for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Stary" 29 years after Cushing's death.

You might not have noticed, but the East Germans who are supposed to be Communists are dressed as Nazis sans the swastika. 4:01 - This is a ZAZ movie. Question not the absurdity. 5:44 - That is the actual policy to any attempting to escape East Germany into the West in the Berlin Wall. 8:21 - Literal jokes is a staple of ZAZ movies like Airplane and Naked Gun. They managed to make it work. 12:26 - To be fair, there's nothing wrong asking help from anyone... even if it a issue of getting an orgasm. 13:32 - You never know. The guy might get a near-life death issue. 15:00 - Val Kilmer will be working with that actor in another movie years after this movie. The guy plays Alfred, while Val plays Bruce Wayne. 17:56 - Pigeons tend to ah.. leave a mess on human statues. This is payback. 18:24 - Peter Cushing playing a resistance/rebel member. Ironic. 18:58 - Indeed it is. Rarely you have a comedic scene that is both humorous and amazing in execution. 22:01 - A French resistance cell operating in Communist East Germany controlled by Nazis. Let that sink in... 26:48 - Seriously he shouldn't have done that. A keen observer might notice it is too quiet... 30:56 - Pinto. There's a joke that type of car tends to blow up in the movies at the slightest touch. 31:42 - The most awesome fight scene in the movie. I really want to see or read the behind-the-scenes on how they pulled this off. Finish off watching the Naked Gun and have a look at Mel Brooks' movie for more comedy fun.

(JK, of course.😉) The actor who played the bookshop owner in the backwards scene was Peter Cushing. You've seen him before as "Grand Moff Tarkin" - the guy who appears to be "holding Vader's leash" in Star Wars Ep. IV - A New Hope. It's his profile we see in a shot just before the Death Star explodes. Cushing was also the subject of a song by The Jellybottys ("Peter Cushing lives in Whitstable" - on YT). The actor who played Hilary's father was Michael Gough - "Alfred" in 3 (I think) of the Batman movies. The actor who played "Agent Cedric" (hilarious name choice) - the guy crushed in the car - was Omar Sharif with a long list of credits but best known for his role in 1965's "Dr. Zhivago".
