Think about how Harry was raised. He has no trust in adults and for most of his life telling an adult something has only ever gotten him into trouble, or not be believed. Its why hes not willing to just tell adults things he thinks the adults will just blame him for and not believe his version of events.
@learobinson4450

Exactly. Vernon & Petunia were never interested in anything Harry had to say much less encourage him to confide in them. Plus in the first book/movie Harry, Ron & Hermione did tell adults what they knew & suspected but were waved away. They told Hagrid that they knew about the Stone & suspected Snape was trying to steal it but Hagrid told them to quit meddling. When they found out Hagrid had let slip how to get past Fluffy they went to McGonagall to warn her & she dismissed their concerns & told them to go back to Gryffindor Tower. So if the teachers wouldn’t listen to them last year why would they think the teachers would listen to them now?

Exactly. I was always bothered by Harry's hero complex and his non-trust in adults, but when we think of his childhood, it makes sense. And the only time he trusts Snape in HPB... well... we all know what came out of that.

Wear that snake badge with pride my friend. Slytherins are ambitious, resourceful, cunning & perceptive. THE Merlin himself was in Slytherin when he attended Hogwarts (yes, Merlin is real in HP canon) it's just a somewhat casual relationship with Dark Magic that tends to get the Slytherins into bother. Take Gilderoy Lockhart in this film, you might be thinking he was a Slytherin but no, Prof Lockhart was a Ravenclaw. It's not the colour of your badge that makes you good or bad, it's the choices you make.

This sorta makes sense, but now I'm wondering about the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix. I forget if it happens in the movie, but in the book, Fawks swallows a Killing Curse aimed at Dumbledore and he does "die" and get reborn. I feel like, to keep things consistent, Fawks should have "died" and been reborn if the basilisk look him in the eye. Unless there's something different enough about those two events.

@@typo1345 I...guess? That just feels incredibly arbitrary for me. I appreciate the attempt to find an explanation, though. And I get that stories won't always be airtight with their rules, I can accept that. I just can't completely accept the explanation that Fawks didn't die in the battle with the basilisk because phoenixes can't truly die if we have examples where he did actually die and he was incapacitated. So he couldn't've poked the basilisk's eyes out.

In the book it is actually hinted at that Ginny is the one who opened the chamber. Originally she wrote Harry a poem for Valentines day and the last line of that poem was "He who defeated the Dark Lord", meaning Voldemort. However, the only ones calling Voldemort the Dark Lord are his supporters, the Death Eaters. And since she is possessed by Voldemort during that time she calls him the Dark Lord. It's a funny little detail that's so easy to miss.

In every single movie, there's at least one instance, and sometimes more, when Snape is helping Harry in some way. In this very movie, he teaches Harry the very spell that Harry uses to defeat old Voldy.

About Hermione: She is probably my favorite character, but you should know, that in the films they made her pretty much perfect. In the books, while still great, she had her flaws like pride and getting anxious in dangerous situations. That made her feel much more real than film Hermione. In the next film there is a particular moment that has been given to Hermione even though in the books Ron did it. They also screwed Ron over, he is much braver in the books and actually has some street smarts bc he is the only one, who grew up in the wizarding world. As an example in the books Hermione has no idea what mudblood means. How could she? She was only one year in Hogwarts at the time. Ron explained it, while vomiting slugs.Oh, and Ron is at least a little bit nicer in the books. The movies are still great but as a hardcore book fan it hurts seeing my beloved characters treated like that.

Few notes: - Dobby physically cannot tell Harry the full plot. He is bound by magic not to divulge his master's (Lucius Malfoy's) secrets. Even telling Harry as much as he did compelled Dobby to seriously injure himself as punishment, divulging everything may very well have killed him. - In the book, Arthur Weasley & Lucius Malfoy have a literal fist fight in the bookshop after Malfoy's taunting. It's all a ploy of Malfoy's of course, he needed a distraction to slip the diary into Ginny's cauldron. She was directly targeted by the way, part of Malfoy's plan was to discredit Arthur so as to block new, muggle-friendly legislation Arthur was championing at the Ministry. - Taking the car is the single stupidest decision anyone makes in all 7 books. Harry literally has an owl. All they needed to do was scribble a quick note saying the gateway was sealed, address it to either Mr or Mrs Weasley & Hedwig would have had it to them in minutes. They then could simply have returned to the Weasley's house & used Floo powder to travel to Hogsmeade (a wizard village near Hogwarts) then hiked the 15mins up to the school. Not that I've thought about this a lot or anything... - Hogwarts is dangerous because having magic is dangerous. Everybody in the wizarding world carries a wand 24/7 & can make you explode by pointing it at you. You need to be prepared because it can kick off at a MOMENTS notice. - If you don't open a howler right away it explodes... - Brewing the polyjuice potion is probably the most impressive thing Hermione does in the entire series. That is a SIXTH year potion & only the best of the best sixth years would be expected to be able to brew it. It is extremely advanced magic for a witch of her age. - Harry is 12 & scared that he might be the heir of Slytherin. That should be all the explanation required for his decision not to tell Dumbledore what was happening. He's frightened that if he tells Dumbledore what's happening he'll somehow end up getting expelled & having to go back to the Dursley's full time. - Many people have questioned why Dumbledore hired Lockhart & it seems to come down to this; nobody else would take the job after what happened to Quirrell. - Voldemort, or "vol de mort" means "thief of death" in French. - Yes, Mr Malfoy whipping out the "killing curse" aka "avada kedavra" in the middle of Hogwarts is totally preposterous. He would 100% have gone to jail for the rest of his life. You can't apperate (teleport) inside Hogwarts, so Malfoy would have had to flee into the Forbidden Forest, ON FOOT, to even have a chance at getting away.

Thank you for making these points clear, I would just like to add a little behind the scences to the last one. Jason Isaacs, the actor of Lucius Malfoy, had been just given the direction to say a spell and because he couldn't think of one, he asked one of the crew members, who just could remember "Avada Kedavra". I doubt that Jason Isaacs knew, what the spell meant, otherwise he might not have went along with it. But yeah, just wanted to add that. Oh, and the line "Let us hope that Mr Potter will always be around to save the day", , was improvised ,bc Jason wanted a cool last line before leaving, as well as Daniel Radcliffe's line, who didn't know about the line and made his response up at the very spot.

@turntsnaco824

I couldn't find a straight answer, but the idea seems to be that John Williams was too busy with too many films that year, including AotC and this, that he hired William Ross to help him with this soundtrack, which is attributed to Ross as being "adapted and conducted by", but also that the compositions themselves are by John Williams. The general theory seems to be that John sent Ross various pieces to be adapted and for reference, and either accidentally included music that was already intended to go into AotC, and it ended up being reused, or he sent it intentionally and Ross just copy-pasted parts of it. So yeah, it's not just similar because it's the same composer; in places it's literally the same music.

I saw a comment on another reaction video speaking to the question of why Harry doesn't confide in the teachers, which I found pretty insightful. Their perspective was that Harry's prior experiences with adults are ones of abuse, not being listened to or believed etc. So for him, adults don't represent a safe place and he doesn't feel he can trust them. To add my own thought onto this - even though he has had positive experiences with the teachers at Hogwarts, he's also had Quirrell turn out to be Voldemort, Snape is openly hostile to him (as is Draco's Dad), and Lockhart immediately tries to use him for his own fame. So even though we know certain characters are trustworthy, I imagine that for Harry there's the potential for all adults to turn out to be bad in some way, so he doesn't trust them and certainly wouldn't want to be vulnerable with them. His prior experience may lead him to believe that it's more likely that he'd be punished for telling the truth, rather than being helped or rewarded.

42:05 you're right! apparently Mr. Malfoy's actor forgot what spell he was supposed to say and just said the first one that came to mind! and the directors kept it in for some reason 🤷🏻 another bit of malfoy trivia from this movie is that the bit when he kicks dobby down Dumbledore's steps was improvised by the actor! the director thought he tripped at first but he loved the choice and made sure to keep it in during editing 😆

Hermione is one of my favorite characters, but she's very overrated in the movies. A lot of actions and lines have been given to her that are from other characters (mostly Ron) that's what makes me most excited about the upcoming series. Harry is a lot more debauched getting into fights and all, the characters are pretty much other people

0:37 Slytherins aren’t all bad. They get a bad wrap because some of the worlds biggest bad guys were from Slytherin, that’s not to say someone that’s bad can’t come from any of the other houses.

Just found your HP reactions & very much look forward to sharing your magical journey. I’ve taken both the Pottermore & Wizardmore house test several times & I’ve gotten Hufflepuff🦡 once & Ravenclaw 🦅 all the other times. I did the extended quiz on Wizardmore that shows the percentage of each house & I’m 54% 🦅, 32% 🦡, 12% 🦁 & 2% 🐍. My wand is beechwood & unicorn hair & my Patronus is a dapple gray stallion, which I’m very pleased with since I live in central Kentucky & my family has been involved with thoroughbred horse racing since the late 1960’s. So there must be something accurate about the quizzes.

I love that you remembered all that! I can't remember my percentages, but I was mostly Hufflepuff, followed by Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin in that order. On Pottermore, I am Hufflepuff. My wand is cherry, unicorn hair core, 11 1/2 inches, very springy. My Patronus is a white stallion. ETA: I looked up my wand info on Pottermore so I could use all the attributes for my wand when I play Hogwarts Legacy.😊

Tbh, Rowling shoving all the bad people into Slytherin is just lazy writing/world building on her part... But I digress. I often think of Gryffindor&Slytherin and Hufflepuff&Ravenclaw as different sides of the same coin. If you look at their values and characteristics they are pretty much the same, the only thing that's different is the way they go about things. Gryffindor and Slytherin are both capeable of good - only Gryffindors lead with their heart an Slytherins lead with their brain. Aka no reason to feel bad about being in Slytherin. We are the best bunch haha

Being Slytherin is not evil, The houses are about what drives you overall. I don't think Gryffindor is about purely bravery but specifically acting upon that bravery with a sense of selfless determination, possibly even foolheartedly, (like taking on a troll as a child). In reality there is mediums between the four houses, even a strong balance is achievable. I am more of a Gryffin-claw (It's not a canon thing) I'm a Gryffindor primary with a lot of Ravenclaw tendencies. Ravenclaws are also brave but they are brave because they studied everything that could happen and know how to react. Slytherins are brave because they are proudly dedicated to the mission or goal. Hufflepuff are brave because they are loyal and steadfast. You could be a Slyther-puff (again not a canon thing) and be dedicated and proudly loyal with controlled emotions. Or any combination, of the four. It becomes apparent the older you get that you really need all four of the traits to really be a well rounded person. But maybe that is taught in some sort of non-canon Hogwarts University. While the houses are segregated into personality types, it doesn't mean you can't hang out and enjoy the company of other houses' students. You'll meet more characters in later films who hang out outside their own house assignments.

Proud Slytherin here too, mate. There are "good guys" and "bad guys" in all houses, as you will soon discover. There are cowardly Gryffindors and brave Slytherins. There are dumb Ravenclaws and arrogant Hufflepuffs. It's the duality of man, I suppose. As Dumbledore said, it all falls to your choices. Wear the Green with pride! ❤❤

Nothing at all wrong with that💚 I'm a Ravenclaw but, having done the test multiple times, I have sometimes sorted to Slytherin. It's true that many dark wizards sorted to Slytherin, there are also dark wizards from other houses, and good ones from Slytherin. It's all about what we choose to do with our traits and talents

Yeah, when you read her Twitter posts though you come to the impression that she spent all of her genius on creating Harry Potter. Now there is not one braincell left in this head. Although there are things in the Harry Potter- World, who are questionable as well. The fatphobia is clear when you read the descriptions of the Dursleys, House- Elves as a concept is vomit inducing, I mean, slaves, who LIKE being enslaved like wtf and the goblins are more or less a parody of Jews, which is just... yeah, good luck to unsee that. Don't get me wrong, I love the Harry Potter series with all my heart but it has it flaws. JK Rowling on the other hand... yeah, let's just ignore her.

to help you a tiny bit with the houses and how they interlink, the golden trio themselves are an example of peoples' defining traits as opposed to their most obvious ones. hermione is intelligent, and often called the brightest witch of her age, but when it comes down to it she is brave in the face of adversity every day as a muggleborn outshining many purebloods. ron has a strong sense of justice, and is steadfast in pursuing fairness and what he believes is right, which could be construed as hufflepuff material - but at the end of the day he'd do anything for his family and for his friends. harry is cunning, sneaky, determined and ambitious - but while those things are slytherin traits, what makes harry most himself is his bravery and his willingness to sacrifice for others. all three of them illustrate beautifully the different houses and their traits, and ultimately what separates them.

If you think it's great how information throughout the movie come together wait till movie number 8. The whole series is immaculately crafted as one long epic story with information from all coming together in the last one even though every one has a conclusion on his own. Every House had their strengths and weaknesses and they overlap, Ron could easely be a Huffelpuf for his Loyalty, Hermione obviously could have been an Ravenclaw and yes Harry has Slitherin traits he is resourceful and cunning (the sock) and he has the ambition to prove himself given his upbringing. Slitherin is not bad as a whole, their main traits just make them more vulnerable and perceptive to use the wrong path to reach what they want. You can be proud to be Slitherin as any other House. 😉

You're right about the house differences being really nuanced and therefore hard to test by. If you are a Slytherin that's totally alright, but if you don't feel it in your heart that's fine too. Like what we saw with Harry in the first one, the hat takes your feelings into consideration too. Personally every time I do the Pottermore quiz I get Gryffindor, but realistically Ravenclaw fits me to a T and every other test (ones that are more the a dozen questions) gets me Ravenclaw PS. I am an ISTJ (Logistician) and a Type Six (Skeptic) for the Enneagram, although it's barely above 5 (Investigator),1 (Perfectionist), and 9 (Peacemaker).

The music might seem like Star Wars as the music for the first 3 Harry Potter movies was composed by the same composer John Williams. It's simple Harry is a dumbass at times. Also, he was told hearing voices is not normal even for wizards. Hermione could have been Ravenclaw but she values courage more than knowledge. The Malfoy at the end wasn't trying to kill Harry. The killing spell was all the actor could remember.

The Pottermore test is supposed to be the most official but the method they use is not the best. It can easily be incorrect due to character traits that have nothing to do with the House values. There are a few other tests out there that I find much more credible. That said, I don't think there is anything wrong with being Slytherin. Every House has its weakness and it just so happens that the weakness of Slytherin is what we see exploited by the villain in this story. I'm also super into personality tests. I find it interesting that I'm an INTJ and a Slytherin because both of those results are often associated with villainy. I don't see myself as a villain but most villains don't think of themselves as the bad guy. So who knows. lol

In the books Lucius didn't try to use Avada Kedavera on Harry . We don't get to see what spell He is about to use before Dobby blows him away . Also I think it's really cool that Daniel Radcliffe Radcliffe who plays Harry made up the line where Lucius said " Let us hope that Mister Potter will always be around to save the day ". Jason Isacs ( Lucius made that up on the spot because he told the director he'd really like to have an exit line and Daniel Radcliffe came back with " Don't worry . I will be ."

Your comment about this film being just slightly darker. This aligns with the books. JK Rowling wrote each book for the same audience - and that audience was 1-2 years older each time, able to handle stories that were slightly more dark or adult. Both the actors and the readers were 10 years older by the time the last book/movie came out. There were cool social media posts showing 22 yo people, dressed in robes, going to the last Harry Potter film with their mom/dad because that is what they had been doing since they were 12. 🙂

There are different houses for different people, and all of the houses hold their own attributes that are vital for the wizard world! So, one house isn't any better or worse than the other....You will see that going forward in the movies.... It is the Wizard, who makes their own decisions, that matters :).

OMG I forgot you live in Australia until you mentioned the giant 6-foot man-eating spider in your shower. I would've had a total seizure if I saw that and then I would have had no other choice but to burn the house down after that. As it was, I had to go get my inhaler and breathe into a paper bag and then sit quietly facing the corner crying out for my Mommy. I will probably have to sleep with all the lights on tonight. Here in Chicago, we don't have anything even remotely poisonous or icky. As for the length of the movie, the books got thicker and thicker with each year. Of course, everyone into them was excited about that since, with each book, there was more story to get lost in. I have to admit when I read these books, I felt like a little kid getting lost in a fantasy land. It was hard to put the books down.

To be clear, JK messed up a bit by her own admission in characterising Slytherin as the 'bad guy' house, if Gryffindor's thing is bravery then Slytherin's in ambition. Yeah they can be a bit more ruthless in their pursuit of their goals then the others but they aren't inherently evil.

You're so quick to catch on things it's great and refreshing! because really if you pay enough attention everything is answered whether sooner or later on and some times later as in later movies not particularly in the same movie! that's aside from the actually cut out stuff that didn't make it to the movies at all because it's ALREADY so long lol so our -and I mean the Potter heads who read the books - main complain that they're not long ENOUGH LOL to get everything! but no worries we'll fill you in with these missing stuff specially the important ones and specially in the next movie! You'll LOVE that one it's like a very big leap in the whole atmosphere of the story! The writing is brilliant script wise so let alone the book! JK is a genius alright! she set an amazing world and everything just jumped out of that! You could've made a pretty nice Ravenclaw as well but creepily I really sensed Slytherin in you don't know why! I'm a Gryffindor myself, done the test tons through the years and I've only once got a Slytherin so I guess Gryffindor to the very core! OH btw Voldemort revealing himself wasn't very cheesy because that was how he actually got his name from when he was a student younger than that even. He altered his full name and played with it to come up with something unique for himself believing that he should be unique and scary and as he said because he hated his father's name "he is half blooded with a muggle father and a witch mom" so he hated his whole "filthy" muggle side yk. and he got all his "inner circle" since school to call him that since then.

John Williams had several movies to do in 2002 including Attack of the Clones and Chamber of Secrets. So for Chamber of Secrets he only had time to write a few new main themes and his friend and collaborator William Ross filled in the blanks with either unused or reused Sorcerer's Stone music. For the quidditch match tho for some reason the Attack of the Clones chase music was used as inspiration and many suspect Ross was the one who made that choice due to time constraints.
