I did it! I watched Twilight finally. I really do have so many questions about this film I am assuming will be answered in the next instalments. I was so perplexed at some of the ideas in this film but it toed the line between creepy and romantic beautifully. Enjoy :)

Edward looked at Bella like that in the cafeteria because he couldn’t hear her thoughts and was confused about why. I think he was trying to somehow break through and “hear” her. He reacted that way in Biology because she smells so good to him that it was all he could do to resist killing her right there in class. He was angry because her presence ruins everything because how will he be able to resist? That running up the mountain to the sunlight scene doesn’t happen in the book. All the stuff that happens then happened later in the story when they go hiking to a meadow deep in the woods. I don’t fault the movie peeps for changing this. They have to save time somewhere, but it does come across a bit silly that he just snatches her and goes running off. The futures Alice sees change when people make decisions or change their minds. She only sees where things are going if everyone stays on the path they are on now. Yes, they go to high school again when they start over in a new place so they can stay longer and not have to move so much. They want to try and live as normally as possible. The scene where he grabs her and jumps out the window to climb trees and calls her spider monkey doesn’t happen in the books. I think they did that just for the visuals. They do spend more time on their relationship in the book. LOL. Everyone loves Charlie.

@@aivlysplath I think if I could be separate from all the social drama, I would have liked to do high school over and over. At least a few times until I got to the point where there were no new electives to try. Then it would begin to be torture. In the screen rant for this movie the exec guy asks the writer guy why they would go to high school, and he says something like, because that's where the main character spends all her time and I need them to interact. LOL Logically that really is the only reason for them to be there.

Thanks for the additions! Also, the reason they have such a weird affect for the fast running is because they received a huge budget cut late in shooting and were barely able scrap together the last scenes with the money they had. So they just barely achieved what they could and couldn’t make it look good 😅

How book-accurate is it? Very. The actress potrayed Bella perfectly: akward, clumsy, weird af, obssessed. Edward was also excellently potrayed: an akward stalkery psycho in a romantic way and who seems uncomfortable 150% of the time. The books were peak romance for 13-year-old me. I would like to see your reaczions to the other ones.

the movies aren't actually accurate at all when it comes to the characters and their dynamics. Don't get me wrong, to this day I love rewatching them but they're not good book adaptations. The first one alone which is the most iconic one doesn't portray the main characters at all and how they fall in love - which led to the biggest misconception that they "don't have personality" and they "fall in love in a day" The first movie leaned on the awkwardness & broodiness when it comes to Bella & Edward, making those their defiant traits of the films. in the books both of them have a more playful dynamic, both can be timid and humorous. They bond over music and argue over literature. Their whole thing is much less dramatic and more of a fragile thing; both are new to love and both don't see themselves clear and to why the other person would bother to love them

Despite its cringe and creepiness, this series is definitely a guilty pleasure. So I would love to see you react to the sequels. To explain about the eyes, when a vampire drinks human blood their eye color becomes bloodshot red, when they drink animals’ blood, it becomes a golden brown coloring, and when their eyes are black it’s because they haven’t drank blood in a while and they need a refill. 👩🏻‍🦰🧛🏻🩸❤️🖤

What gets me is reading the books, Bella steps in front of the fan, and we go maybe five or more pages in Edward’s POV of Midnight Sun… he has planned the entire classes deaths to drink her blood in the span of one line of Twilight. It all would’ve happened in her lifting her foot to walk from the teacher’s desk to their table. It’s fascinating! They also don’t focus on Jasper’s powers. He was shielding Bella and Alice from the bad vampires. That’s why it took so long for them to notice her. The wind made hiding her irrelevant.

Kristen Stewart did an excellent job as Bella - the way she is portrayed is exactly the way she is described in the books, complete with quirks and everything 😂😂 she's supposed to be super awkward and weird. It's why she is partially also drawn to the Cullens so much - she feels like she has a place with them, I guess? Would like to see your reactions to the other films for sure! The thing with twilight is that every cullen and the relationships between them would make a better story than what we got also the reason Jasper looks like he's always in pain is because he is Jasper's power is to feel/alter emotions so when he's in school not only is Jasper dealing with his own bloodlust but also the rest of his family's as well which makes it incredibly hard for him to control his hunger

I love watching people react to Twilight because i was the absolute prime audience for these books and movies when they came out. I have such nostalgia for how much i loved them. I can look back on them and cringe but it's fun. This first movie especially has that low budget charm 🤣. Although 16 year old me and current 31 year old me still agree that Carlisle is the best one none of this teenage bullshit gimme a nice calm man 🤣🤣🤣. Also as others were said the books were definitely better at conveying the though processes of characters and Bella wasn't quite so.....blank 🤣. I should really reread them as an adult and see what I think now.

"She loves chasing red flags, mate." "It feels romantic but it also feels really wrong." "I'm assuming it doesn't look that cold there, but the blue filter is making it seem more miserable." Nailed it. Forks, WA is near a temperate rainforest, so it's cool and rainy frequently but not like the arctic circle. It averages 23C-7C for daytime temperatures throughout the year. Its a really beautiful area of the US and the fact that the movie was largely filmed in a different part of the country is pretty annoying to me.

I recently reread the book series and one of the things that stood out to me was that Bella does notice that Mike & Eric have crushes on her but does not feel the same. But, she's also a people pleaser and doesn't want to ruin her friendship with Mike so she's got scenes in the first book where she's trying to appease both Mike & Jessica. It's one of the things that I never noticed in the movie but stood out to me in the book.

regarding the being attracted to someone who could kill you - 1) yeah that's kinda what dating any man feels like as a woman, this kind of genre is a way of exploring that fear but desire anyway in a safe way, 2) people-pleasing is a trauma symptom and sometimes attraction is actually relief of feeling safe when you finally convince someone intimidating to be nice to you, similar to Devil Wears Prada but also cute boys

People think that Bella was the wrong choice as actress,, but in the books, she was supposed to be awkward and clumsy, as well as plain. I love your reactions, and the fact that you always look for the positive in things. This is a tough series for a lot of people, because both the books and movies romanticize deeply unhealthy (and in some cases dangerous) behaviors. Swooning over stalking, predatory possessiveness, gaslighting, emotional manipulation, and extreme codependency (to name just a few in a long list of red flags) didn’t sit right with me as a teen when this was popular, and it’s even more horrifying to me now. Yes, these stories are just fantasy, but they had a massive impact on young readers and viewers, and impressionable young minds deserve better examples of what to aspire to than this.

Thank you! I never got into the books because they were terribly written (the first one was one of the few books I never bothered finishing, it was so bad), and when I saw the movie, I was shocked by how such an unhealthy and disturbing relationship was being glorified and packaged for impressionable teens as peak romance. Edward and even Jacob display HUGE abusive red flags, but this franchise normalizes and glamorizes them. I find it incredibly unsettling, and I was so glad to see someone else acknowledge it here in the comment section. Thank you.

Thank you for reacting to this! Glad to hear you enjoyed it too! I've read the books (long time ago) and watched the movies quite many times. I love the aesthetics and soundtrack of this movie but also the story. ❤ I feel like Kristen and Robert did good job with the script they were given. I also see that a lot of the awkward and intense moments made sense for the story and the characters because they were supposed to be like that. Especially with Bella because she was so young and also described as awkward in the book too, so no wonder she was like that in the movie too. Many of the decisions that were made for the movie also shows that it's a product of its own time, as every movie is. Of course we see some things on a different light because don't live in that time anymore. Things and people change. I feel like a lot of people tend to forget that, especially when it comes to Twilight

I think the biggest difference between the movie and the books is that there is a lot of talking and backstory in the books. There are a lot of convos between her and Edward that tells you more about their chemistry. The meadow is actually a whole trip they take in the books and goes deeper in how he has to resist killing her. She tells how she knows he’s a vamp in the car otw home (after that dinner)

one thing i loved you touching on was the score and particularly Bella's Lullaby on the piano. Every soundtrack is a perfect encapsulation of the mood for every film. The first movie is filled with bands like Paramore with their incredible "Decode" and more angsty teen music but Bella's Lullaby is a stand out piece. A beautiful, light, and almost innocently hopeful melody and the full song with the backing strings has been one of my favorite pieces for the longest time. Turning Page and Flightless Bird are two more great songs to have been made or adapted for these films.

My sister was so obsessed with the Twilight movies and books. I only watched the movies for the werewolf fight scenes, the special effects were really good for the time.

As somebody originally from Phoenix, the temperature can get high as about 45°C. I’m converting it for you since I know you don’t use Fahrenheit. But that’s extremely hot. Also keep in mind it’s a dry heat. Barely any humidity. Like 6%. So it’s like an oven.the winters are much more mild. Like 15°.

Yeah it doesn’t get that hot as regularly here but our climate is a bit more tropical so we deal with humidity a lot. I’m not a huge fan of heat 😆

Yeah, it can even get to 47-48C on the hotter days. It’s pretty uncomfortable. Unlike Bella, I don’t enjoy the heat. I’d much rather deal with the Seattle temps her & the other denizens of Forks Washington experience.

I don't know why, but I've seen the parody Vampire Suck and whenever I see Twilight, they kind of merge in my mind and I can't stop laughing 😂

When you feel up to it, one of the best, if not the best, vampire movies ever made is "Interview With the Vampire" (1994). It's a great movie by almost any metric, but watching it should not be undertaken lightly ;) For a lighter, more action oriented introduction, I would recommend "Van Helsing" (2004).

This movie was the most accurate to the books, just a sped up version of it- they kept in a lot of the dialogue that Bella and Edward say- the only huge difference was how Bella got away from Jasper and Alice. She had to outsmart them because they were already at the airport to meet up with Edward and since she knew the area, she went into a bathroom with 2 exits and she had made Jasper go with her since she knew he wouldn’t go in the bathroom itself

I really appreciate and respect your open mindedness while watching this, despite this maybe not being your usual type of movie, or despite what you may have heard about it over the years. I think most people can agree that whether or not they personally think the movies are good, they can be pretty fun to watch.

I unironically love these movies haha. I think it's because I read the books first in middle school and they were one of the first love stories I'd read, so I found a lot of things to like about them. There's plenty to critique but I think it's forgivable if you care about the story.

This might be a far stretch but would you ever react to iconic Disney movie like aquamarine? There’s very few KZbinrs that’s reacted to it & all of them end up being surprised cause it’s genuinely a lovely story about friendship. I would love to know your opinion about it !

People love to mock the cgi for vampires running in this; but it's almost entirely practical effects. The actors were in a harness on top of a treadmill on wheels being pulled by a rope; the only cgi in the running was hiding the harness, and that one shot of edward's feet. As for how close it was to the books: The characters and some of the major plot points were spot on. But it was just different enough to cause some problems later on (later movies reference things that happened in the first book, but not the movie/s).

There is the blue filter, yes, but this is set in Washington State. Rain. LOTS and LOTS of rain. The forests up there are actually a temperate rainforest. It's nearly always overcast and raining in the summer and snowing in the winter. It's pretty far north, so yes this time of year they are showing would be pretty damned cold.

I know it didn't always look perfect but I like how they depicted their speed throughout the films because it emphasized how the world looks slow to them vs them moving fast necessarily. One step is so fast with no effort.

i have a very weird relationship with these movies😂 i was raised in a a religious cult so i was only allowed to watch the first one as they were coming out, (because my mother didn’t know what kind of movies they were) and then like around 2016, i started sneak watching the movies and now they’re one of my favorite comfort movies. are they good movies? objectively, no probably not but just look at the movies as camp and then you’re good😂

Considering the content as the series progresses is perfectly understandable many parents would say "is not worth the entertainment, I don't want my kid (specifically for the sexual tension and scenes) exposed Bernstein there is better content for hormonal teens to consume & help them make better decisions during this time." That said I enjoy them & think they have a a great prolife message.

I just re-read the whole series last year. Made sure to talk to my still relatively young children (19, 22) who both love these stories about how toxic the relationships are. It's ok to escape into these stories for fun, but it's annoying how they affected impressionable young readers. Making them think this is all romantic, when it is just toxic.

I can identify with you liking the movie. My brother-in-law and I really enjoyed the books and the movies and in fact, my brother-in-law told me that he and my sister are watching the movies again for about the fourth time. Twilight is a little like Harry Potter, inasmuch as it wouldn't seem right remaking the series with different actors. Great reaction, as are all of the dozen or so that I've seen so far.

The books go into Bella's fear of getting old that's why she hates birthdays. Apparently the new book written in edwards point of view if like depressed adhd vampire with the mind of a teenager from a time guys courted girls.

This is the best twilight reaction I have watched. And I have watched alot of them. I really looking forward to watching the others. It's hard to say book VS movie. I like the films and I love the books. Especially the first one. They are similar enough... but of course the books blow the movies out of the water. Thats how it always is.
