I've heard about low quality caps making the rounds because of COVID, with shortages the manufacturers would just ship whatever it could get made. With the number of times I've seen just a single bad cap in an XSX or PS5 in these videos, it's really easy to believe it. Funny though, I was saying "time for the thermal cam" out loud to myself and then that popped cap came in. Gotta love it when it's that obvious. Also, proud member of the 40% subscribed club. Is that a thing?

In defense of Microsoft and anyone else who had to ship electronic products during that time: It was almost impossible to come by certain components during the pandemioc years. It was bad. Simple regulators, Transistors, Caps, Resistors of a certain precision...I vividly remember that we wanted to do a simple prototyping run of like 10 boards and our PCB house told us the regulators had a shipping time of over 600 days (basically 2 years). We were like...WHAT?! We literally had to manufacture the boards without, go into the basement and take them off older boards we still had lying about there and reuse them. It was that bad. So being a supply chain manager for a product that literally was supposed to sell int he millions of units must've been a complete nightmare. Normally these products are made with passive components from names like Murata, Vishay and the like, in the first years of PS5 and the current XBox they probably had to take whatever they could get.

i did that SSD swap on my Xbox x Scorpio edition was worth it as i had from launch day still going with zero problems my nephew has it i gave it to him to use when i got the XSX so worth doing makes loading that bit better. But i have had luck with my XSX had it from launch and no problems yet but i do keep on top of it like cleaning and replacing thermal paste every year and not having it on always on mode so SSD not burn out in run time cycles and keeping it on its side helps with air flow all that has got mine running good still 4 years later.

Heya, just out of interest, how much would a SSD failure repair cost? I ask as mine is of the first batch to come out, and I had something weird happen the other day, where a load of my saves just stopped working on starfield...and I don't mean just corrupted, Im taking about crashing to the dashboard kind of corrupted.... I managed to find a save that eventually did work, and luckily I didn't lose out on TOO much progress, but I'm really worried that this is the start of blocks of the SSD starting to die....and I also know, that to fix it, the SSD has to be in good enough state that you can flash the ID code off of it... therefore, I'd rather get it working properly before it completely fails...if you think this is the case.....I've had no other problems with any other games, but, it was just in mind
@giggity46702 ай бұрын
If you go watch his older vids i don't think it can be done easy now a SSD swap as it paired to the Xbox so cant just replace it with a different one have to clone it and chance it will just not work. If you go in settings make sure your Xbox is on eco mode not on always on as that is what kills the SSD on Xbox SX as the SSD is always running in that mode killing its run cycles. If you go in description there is a way to contact him to see if he can do it and if it worth a go but don't get your hopes up. And that is my fear as well as my Xbox SX is from launch so 4 years old i have had it on eco mode when i first heard always on was problem doing that killing the SSD as it just runs 24/7 killing its run cycles it can handle before failure i do a good clean and replace thermals paste every year to help slow it down but i think my SSD will be the on to go first to as the amount of games i move and play on it must be on borrowed time now on run cycles before failure.

Hey, love the videos, i have an XBOX Series X, after watching your videos on the SSD failures and how they are paired to the console, do you think pulling my SSD and creating an image/iso of the SSD contents now, before a potential failure, work for me or do i need a proper clone bay like you have?

I think he does show in the description on other vids related to the SSD the cloner device he uses on the SSD to clone to a used SSD from a broken Xbox as don't think you can just buy a SSD like the one they use am not sure but the chance of it working is low now he explains it in other vids he made Xbox/Microsoft has made it harder to just clone the SSD now to replace it

I try not use the SSD inside the XSX I put all the games on the SSD card for the games.
@giggity46702 ай бұрын
What would cause that to happen just time or bad luck or wear and tear from heat as my XSX i got from day 1 in 2020 so nearly 4 years now going ok still i use all the tips like not leaving it on always on mode so SSD can last longer giving it lots of room to breath i leave it on its side not standing upright so air can get in better and i clean it out ever year with some new thermal paste so it not get so hot on old paste. So would that blown cap just be pure random event it blows or something else like a surge or something as want my XSX to last a bit longer before it dies as feels like its time is coming up with the SSD on how much i move games over as can bet that is the one to go first on mine.

@tusux2949Ай бұрын
Because MX4 is very good quality, consistent and cheap. Works on both CPUs and GPUs, which require vastly different type of paste. MX2 is the same, but thicker, which works better on GPUs but it's a mess to clean up, because it's so thick. So most people use MX4.
