I had to read this as an english class assignment, right after we read another suspense short story, called The Veldt, that was brutal but in an obvious way, so I didn't need to dive so deep with that one. This one took me a minute to be like, "Wait, this is a suspense unit. Where is the suspense in this book?" but then I realized that his wife brutally forced the husband to STARVE to death in an elavator- What a suprise! You guys are really good at book analysis and helped me understand this assignment! Thanks!

Yes! I just finished the story few minutes ago, and I had to go back right away to the scene where she was “listening “! And then, I flipped pages back through to find out the house was 6 stories high. I only recently discovered his short stories for adults, been enjoying them very much! Thanks for the discussion!

The plot summary made me flash back to the clip of Chris from the birthday tag “You’re reading what??” Yeah, babe - better stay away from the elevators.....

The moment I saw this video notification, I was like okay, I have to read this story. As I reached the ending of the last paragraph, I had an exact expression as 1:14. Only after a few silent moment with myself could I digest the ending. And always love to listen to your analysis and discussion.

I love Roald Dahl. His writing style has always been very pleasant to me, the words just float so smoothly without any unnecessary complicated words and sentences which is great for me as I'm not a native english speaker. I love how he also doesn't spent time on unnecessary for the story details which a lot of writers do. Had this story given to me for a uni assignment. Had a great time reading it and went straight for some explanation commentaries. Great video and analysis.

This sounds great. Though I haven't read this, I am still impressed with some of the symbols you two pick up on. Even if I do not know the story, these analysis are great.

I finally found time to read this one. Good stuff! This is I think the 3rd Dahl story I've read now where either a wife or landlady has killed her husband/man of the house? So weird to know one of the more popular children's writers of the 20th century wrote so many dark stories as well. 8/10

I just listened to an audio reading if "The Way Up to Heaven." Thank you so much for this clear explanation of the story's ending, and for confirming my own suspicions, I knew the husband would need some help at some point. 😱'
