honestly a terrarium using volcanic soil as a base would probably be kickass, ive read volcanic soil is extremely fertile and you could probably set up a hawaiian ecosystem in there with the right temperatures and plant starters.

@Cody'sLab, You should wrap a LED light strip around the lower portion of the glass jar. Turn it on at max, One-Two hours per day, this should be on to emphasize the peak light hours. To shed light on the lower portion of the jar. So the lower foliage has a chance to grow. Bonus point if you make the LED light go bright Rainbow mode during it... to provide different light spectrums. Also, use Teflon tape on the protector for the bike valve. To further increase the air tightness. In case the valve leaks air, (which it does if you think about how bike tires lose pressure over time)... Afterwards, it should be good.

The theory that of no fungi to break down lignin is interesting. If I understand it correctly it lead to huge layers of organic matter and lots of it burned by huge fires at the en of carbon. Some got stuck under layers of inorganic stuff and are now the coal and oil reserves we burn.
@alexcamilleri3997
@alexcamilleri3997 4 жыл бұрын
The disability of fungi to consume lignin during the carboniferous is disputed (or disproved) now, as there's phylonomic tracing of fungal degradation of lignin dating back to the Permian. There's a couple newer papers out there on the topic, check them out :)
@TheHollowBodiesBand

Put it on a very slow turntable to simulate day and night cycles. Bonus points if you implement the speed control with a camshaft that travels even more slowly under the output to vary the speed within the day and day by day to match a yearly cycle so that one side of the container is in winter and the other in summer - but even-steven on a simple turntable is fine too, just means you are on the equator

"There's no tectonic or volcanic activity." Not yet there isn't. Earthquake would be easy to simulate, just give it a bit of a shake, but who would one simulate a volcano? May just heat it up and add volcanic gasses to it.

Maybe if he used a oxyacetylene torch to heat up the rocks, although he’d have to upgrade the glass and idk if such glass even exists. Well if anyone could it it it’s Cody

Love finally seeing the bottle again, happy to see there’s still some critters living in there after so long! I guess they’ll have to keep on going now that you’ve resealed it without adding anything, though I guess they’ve proved themselves thus far!

The important question though: What would they be called then? Springwings? Wingtails?

Wouldn't it be better if we use species with shorter lifespans and more chances of fast mutations to see the effect?

Springtails don't live very long but yes you are correct but he just put animals that were from that time period.

I don't think size as a result of mutations could happen in any manageable amount of time, that might take thousands of years. If the bugs grow big, it is because they by default grow as big as they can.

I'm sure that a lot of people are asking when will you start mining again Cody ?(Could you show how the mine has changed?)
@Zonkotron
@Zonkotron 4 жыл бұрын
I think it was a big problem for him. Mining without explosives is pointless, youtube is touchy about explosives without permits and those permits are hard to get and also - the mine really has nothing worth mining, apparently. Sad, yeah.....

He explained it in a previous video if I recall. Digging for profit (even if it's youtube profit) makes it classified as a mine, and therefore has to deal with the Mining Comission or whatever its called in the US. Lots of paperwork, inspections and general government BS. That, and youtube doesn't like things what go boom.

@@hughmann3952 the organization he'd fall under is MSHA, and they have the ability to show up at any time and do safety inspections, among other things. It'd be pretty difficult for him to make sure he's in complaiance, especially when you consider that "small" mines typically have at least one "healthand safety guy" who's full time job is ensuring MSHA compliance.
