You downplayed the U Nu government's success and overexaggerated the success of Ne Win's caretaker government, perhaps due to the limited sources in the English language. The caretaker government's rule was not a joyous occasion in Myanmar's history and remained the catalyst for decades-long suffering.

The caretaker government has some similarities with S Korea’s Park Chung Hee 60s/70s government. Of course we know that as in 2023 one country is very much Asia’s backwater, the other is Asia’s powerhouse with people enjoying freedom and democracy.

Myanmar has always been a fiction, different peoples with their own visions forcibly held together by the government of the central plains. As much as colonialism was a disaster in some cases like Burma, Palestine, Sudan and Western Sahara how decolonialize was allowed to happen was just as great of one.

So, the military Tadmadaw has been played a lot of the government's decision, even when Ne Win, the dictator of Myanmar, ruled the country Same goes during the democracy era (2011-2021) when Aung Saan Suu Kyi became the President of Myanmar The military power had to be reduced greatly

Aung San Suu Kyi didn't become president because of 2008 constitution of Myanmar. Former military generals made that constitution and added 59(f) which prevents Aung San Suu Kyi from becoming president. They did it on purpose. The reason is Aung San Suu Kyi is wife of foreigner and mother of foreigners. Instead of becoming president, she became state counsellor which is kinda equal with prime minister role. There were three presidents during 2011-2021. From 2011-2015, U Thein Sein, former general was president. He became president through the election which is held in 2011. However, according of evidence, that election was fraud. In 2012, the govt made by-election, and Aung San Suu Kyi became member of parliament. In 2015 election, NLD party which is led by Aung San Suu Kyi won the election with landslide. However, due to 2008 constitution, Aung San Suu Kyi cannot become president so U Htin Kyaw became president during 2015-2018. In 2018, he resigned and U Win Myint became president of Myanmar. According to 2008 constitution, 25% of parliament is controlled by one man, commander-in-chief, Min Aung Hlaing as he appointed 25% of military representatives to parliament. To changed 2008 constitution, it needs approval of 76% of parliament members which means without agreement of commander-in-chief, it cannot be changed. Therefore, Aung San Suu Kyi wasn't president of Burma.

@@SiPakRubah Military said that 2021 coup is not coup it is like caretaker govt just like in 1958-1960. However it was coup. According to 2008 constitution, president can only removed by parliament. However, they removed president U Win Myint and elected their person. For military, they would do everything to ensure their wealthy and security not for people of Myanmar but for themselves. So it isn't strange for them to re-arrest Aung San Suu Kyi. During 2011-2015 they created religious crisis between Buddhists and Muslim in Meiktila. I was victim of that. They assassinated U Ko Ni who was advisor of Aung San Suu Kyi and U Ko Ni is expert in 2008 constitution and he also created "state counsellor" for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Thus, military seems him as a threat to them.

If you have lived in Yangon, as I have for almost 10 years, you will see that the significance of the dog problem is very serious. Because of dogs everywhere there are very few cats. Because of that mice and rats are prolific. The people refuse to kill any of these. Thus diseases that don't exist anymore in the rest of the world are still prolific. If you stay, you will face many young and healthy friends facing surprising deaths that could have been avoided.

Our people has been so accustom to practicing politics with the mean of force or violence from the beginning. That seem like the only way we know how to practice politics. Because of these tendency we have fallen into meaningless chaos since 1948 instead of making sure our policies can serve people. The delusional leaders lead their people to play strongmen politics with other groups further polarization the already chaotic situation left by the colonial powers. It is time to see that these people are using the same technique used by the colonial to divide the populace for their own selfish agenda. It is time for the people of Myanmar to be educated in history to realize what really went wrong to find the solution for current crisis. It is also sad to see that we are repeating the same pattern due to the fact that every leaders including ethnic groups tend to twist history to their own agenda to further create distance between communities and create mistrust.

the instability is the military's doing and the refusal to let minority nations get their independence for the sake of keeping abstract colonial borders the same. There is no such thing as a joint "military-civil" government, the ones with the guns have the power, the civilian ones obey and cannot say no. Look at Sudan.

@@Game_Hero You may have become another Yugoslavia in South East Asia. The relationship between Rebel groups are unstable, even if the Tatmadaw were defeated what stops the rest of the ethnic rebel groups from turning their sights on one another. Stuff like that happens in Afghanistan and former Yugoslavia, I still think a federal gov is the best choice but ethnic groups need to solve their own issues before that is an option.

​@@thitran1362 The Yugoslav wars are over. Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro and North Macedonia are doing just fine now, some didn't even have need wars to be independant. The way to solve issues is independence, purely and simply, a federal government is just an excuse for the dominating nation to exploit others under some "union of equals" rhethoric even if one nation will inevitably have the lion's share and others, the shorter ends of the stick, one language, the lingua franca and not others. If you don't want to give back your independence, don't hold it back to others.
