So I bought this deck the day it was on CQ, so I've had it for about a month and a half now. I've had amazing success with this deck and it wins so many different ways, every time a little different. Whether you're pinging people to death, taking infinite turns, stealing their creatures, or making infinite ETB / Dualcasters / etc it's just so strong. Dire Fleet Ravager WINS GAMES (nothing like everybody going from 40 to 9 and then dying from draw triggers in 1 shot, on someone else's turn). I added a few upgrades beyond the Reasonable including Cyc Rift, Venser Shaper Savant, Ertai Wizard Adept and a couple others. I can play it political doing spot permanent removal, counter spells, or I can just go all in and combo. Sometimes I just sit and wait until the overpowered player is about to combo off and either win on the spot or have an answer. It's not dependent on the graveyard, but can use it to its full advantage. And to most people, they think nothing of little wizard creatures that already had their ETB's used up. Seems like a lot of the budget decks end up being sort of a "1 trick pony" on here (Maze's End 97 lands I'm looking at you), this is one deck that just feels like nobody knows what to expect, and better, nobody knows what to destroy off your board because they really have no clue what's next. The best feeling is when you're playing a 5 man pod with 3 players with huge creatures and you start returning their stuff to their hands tapping wizards (but only when they attack me as a response - great political move, don't mess with the Wizards guy if you like your board state).

Mitch, the thing I love most about the deck isn't the budget, but the fact that you truly made it a Wizard Tribal deck. Every video and article I have seen about upgrades or building Inalla has been some varriation of: Step 1: Take out 90% of the non-land cards step 2: Take out 80% of the land cards Step 3: Put in expensive lands, mana rocks and tutors along with combos not related to Wizard tribal in any way, such as Worldgorger Dragon and Animate dead to make infinite mana, then win with a combo that has little or nothing to do with Wizards and Inalla. Basically, make a generic Grixis combo deck. At least your build is about using wizards to control the game with actual wizards and to use the Commander's ability for something other than JUST a Bloodline Necromancer or Wanderwine combo. I love that you want to use EtB triggers without just being a bad Roon of the Hidden Realms flicker/blink deck.

Just wanted to say that I received the Porcine Stand playmat today and I absolutely love it! Super nice quality and I'm super happy with it! Your channel practically got me into commander and definitely inspired my love of budget decks. It all started with that Gishath, Sun's Avatar dino tribal deck, and while I've moved on to other decks I still am amazed at your creativity and budgeting skills. Keep up the good work! For a suggestion, I'd love for you to take a different perspective with one of these decks and build a more cEDH focused deck. Many people (including previously myself) think cEDH has to be super expensive, but other channels like the Spike Feeders have fun budget cEDH decks that look perfect for high power, interactive edh. I'd love to see your take on a deck like that. As always, love the content!

Sweet deck Mitch. So sweet in fact that I went a head and built it with a few changes with cards I had. Kept the Deadeye/Drake combo for that win cob as shown in the video but also added Dualcaster/Twinflame or Heat Shimmer combo as well. Another good card to add might be Ghitu Journeymage. When it enters if you control another wizard it deals 2 damage to EACH opponent. Yes please! AND it’s budget too!

Hey Mitch, first off love the deck techs and the channel. I've played this decklist exactly in a few different settings and it lacked something. It just felt very clunky and often didn't go anywhere. From my playtesting, keeping it budget I added some draw and more cheap spells that do more like Dissolve. Adding Kefnet's Monument also helped in bringing the cost of necessary creatures down and could be tutored for using those artifact mages. Squeezing in Parallel Thoughts was also really really helpful as I could guarantee the next 7 draw effects would give me either combo pieces or counterspells or both. Finally Drift of Phantasms while not a mage helped in letting me pick a card later game, or be a nice shield for me early (as well as offering reach). Just wanted to share this with you, I've enjoyed many of your decks and your borborygmos deck was what got me into both Magic and Commander. Cheers!

To those looking for a more combo centric upgrade, Inalla has a fairly complex but highly effective 1 card, 4 mana combo with Spellseeker, copied and tutoring Culling the Weak and Reanimate, sacrificing and reanimating for Unearth and Entomb, Unearthing for Burnt Offering and Shallow Grave, and then Entombing and looping Scholar of the Ages for infinite mana and tutors. About $35 to assemble the whole package, so not quite able to fit in a budget deck, but all the cards work well individually and make for a tight, easily protected and difficult to disrupt combo package when together.

@thyguywithtime670
@thyguywithtime670 4 жыл бұрын
Cooper Graveline Actually, if you wait until the end step and then trigger the sundial, that next end step part is forgotten because it’s already triggered once. It’s only if you use the sundial BEFORE you hit the end step and get all the triggers on the stack that they will disappear on your opponents turn. I’ve got a mirror gallery style legendary wizard version of inalla that combos into a massive board presence simply because I can keep the tokens around.

Have cities blessing, 2. have Grenzo with atleast 1 +1/+1 counter on board, 3. use timestream navigator's ability to take an extra turn, 4 use grenzo ability to put timestream from bottom into grave and then board. Repeat steps 3 -4 every turn

The best wizard to play in an Inalla deck has got to be Wanderwine Prophet. Just champion the Prophet with its hasty Token, swing the Wanderwine Prophet token at an open opponent and sac it for the extra turn, just repeat the champion token dance for infinite turns!
@MasterX25
@MasterX25 4 жыл бұрын
It's strong, but too obvious. No one will let it stick. If you have a higher budget, you can probably protect Wanderwine Prophet, but at budget, it's too easy to stop. Also it doesn't compliment any card in the deck, just a 1 card potential win con, which is pretty frowned upon.
@jonathanmellette8541
@jonathanmellette8541 4 жыл бұрын
Wanderwine Prophet is a MUST HAVE for ANY Inalla deck. But it's the kind of card you make sure you have in your "sideboard" so you put it in or take it out depending on the quality of decks you're playing against. For only $2.49 upgrade (for the damaged copy on TCG right now) it's a no-brainer. And it doesn't NEED to compliment any other card in the deck, which was kind of your point, MasterX25, but also THE point. It's one of the few "1 card combos" in the entirety of Commander. That makes it pretty cool in and of itself.

@@MasterX25 You're saying no one lets it stick but in my experience its a free win most of the times. As an aside, with the recommended upgrades to artifacts, the deck drops out 3 CMC artifacts, and there is only one 1 CMC artifact. It seems like there should be a fetch target for 3 CMC or that the Trophy Mage should be removed. Fixed that by removing Trinket Mage (Wayfarer's isn't worth it as the only target) and replaced with a Kefket's as it applies to a large portion of the deck. Also, thinking about removing one of the Nivs and replacing with an Thassa, Deep Dwelling as a second Conjurer's Closet effect, as the recurrable ETB seems more powerful.

I've had inalla since it came out. When i went against my friend with it out of the box, we were laughing 20 turns in when i was in control of the game but had no win condition. If i have to stress this, bloodline necromancer is prolly the best top deck in the library. Protect your graveyard, stockpile on dead wizards, get naban and panharmonicon out, try to copy them, then play a recursion, then it goes down like dominoes. Venser is also a great defense, if you have a etb doubler, when you copy him, you have 4 venser triggers, one of which you can use to return venser itself. Here's my deck I've had for the longest, it costs 300 but feel free on using it for suggestion tappedout.net/mtg-decks/grixen-archmages/

I know I'm commenting on a 2 year old video, but can you correct me if I'm wrong? Naban, Dean of Iteration's ability only works if Inalla is in play and not in the Command Zone right? I'm under the impression that the ruling for this interaction states: cards in the Command Zone do not count permanents you control.

In your upgraded list, after removing Voyager Staff, there in only one artifact with a converted mana cost of 1 that can be found by Trinket Mage: Wayfarer's Bauble. Additionally, your upgraded list has ZERO 3cmc artifacts or Trophy Mage to find. With Naban in this deck, we might have as many as 4-6 triggers off of a single casting. We need 4+ targets that are worth getting. I am sure that you can think of many good cards to fill out those slots on my own, but I wanted to give you feedback so that you may (hopefully) update your lists to this 6+ month old video with errors that I just recently found.

This deck only has 7 Instant or Sorcery Spells. Auger of Bolas is going to "blank" on you more times than not in this version. I agree that it is a good card, but only if you have about 30 or so instant and/or sorcery spells. It should be cut from this list and replaced with another form of card draw or board control. Here are some suggested replacements for the same role of gaining card advantage: Pit Keeper - 1B $0.15 "When Pit Keeper enters the battlefield, if you have four or more creature cards in your graveyard, you may return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand." Viscera Seer - B $1.90 "Sacrifice a creature: Scry 1." (Sacrifice the tokens that will be exiled anyway to get free scry triggers.) Grim Haruspex 2B $0.60 "Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, draw a card." Information Dealer - 1U $0.18 Tap: Look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the number of Wizards on the battlefield, then put them back in any order. (Poor man's Sensei's Divining Top for each wizard you control)

Hey Paul, all your Comments helped me out a lot. Thank you :) I made some slight changed thanks to your advice. Do you have any cards you would consider a reasonable upgrade for this deck? i feel like boardwipes are missing completely here
@PaulGaither
@PaulGaither 4 жыл бұрын
@@stefanhuber522 - The short answer is that I am also working on the same deck with budget in mind and playing when I can, so my advice can only go as far as my experience and who I play with/against. As I wrote in another comment, the deck Mitch posted also doesn't take advantage of the Trinket/Tribute/Trophy Mage cycle of creatures. Read that comment if you haven't. The short version is: add more 1, 2, and 3 cmc artifacts. Ashnod's Altar goes infinite with Bloodline Necromancer and can be found off of Trophy Mage. The Altar is still great value even when not trying to combo, as you can Sacrifice the original wizard to pay for the Inalla copy, then sacrifice the token for more Mana to chain more wizards together in a single turn. It is also okay to fill your graveyard with wizards this way, as we are in black and have many ways to reanimate one or more of them. I just bought a reprint of Victimize last weekend. Three Mana to reanimate two creatures? Then copy them with Inalla's? Oh yeah. Depending on your meta, do you want board wipes or spot removal? Do you face a swarm or individual threats? That will tell you what to lean into more of. Either way, we are probably leaning into black for removal and some of the blue spot removal. It helps to remember that this MUST BE a combo deck. Even if the combo is infinite Wizards that swarm and attack for lethal, this NOT a deck that wins by going wide and attacking turn after turn like Vampires or a deck that grows one or two monster creatures. This NOT a duel and we are NOT playing "draw go" and attacking with a few creatures each turn and wearing our opponents down in a resource war. Our deck wants to use our wizards for card advantage and EtB triggers. We are more of a "tap out control" deck that wants to find and resolve a combo. Our early turns need to be spent fixing our mana and ramping (tapped lands and casting Signet's and so forth). Then we need to get our value wizards into play and hold up Mana for some instant speed tricks. You will find that the deck improves as we cut inferior wizards in favor of some instant speed effects. I really like cards such as Mystical Teachings, which can grab Dualcaster Mage AND Ghostly flicker all by itself. Unlike Mitch's deck, I prefer to have fewer but more powerful/important wizards than just jamming 30 into the deck. For example, the tutor wizards, the combo wizards, the card draw wizards and a few board control wizards are about it. I would rather have more interaction and ways to dig. We want to stop another player from winning before we can, and slow down the assault if we are targeted for some reason. Otherwise, we want to passively find a combo line and just let other players do their thing and not look like a threat.

@@PaulGaither thank you again for your detailed answer. Good point, i have to keep in mind that this is not a duel deck :) i took your advice and added some mana artifacts such as sol ring, kefnets monument, commanders sphere, expedition map and mishras bauble for card draw. Im thinking of 10 Manarocks, whats your opinion on that? But im also thinking about adding ashnods altar since it has such great value :) For Boardwipes my gotos are blasphemous act and maybe in garruks wake and/or Chaos Warp. Im not sure here yet. I switched Corpse Augur with Disciple of Bolas and Information Dealer seems like a good add in this deck. Maybe we can discuss this more in detail if you want? I would appreciate your help and knowledge since im a beginner here :)

@@stefanhuber522 - Thank you. I am glad that I have been of some help. The most powerful Inalla decks tend to just have 3-5 wizards in them and center around the creature Spellseeker. They use tutors to find it, then cast it and use its trigger to find a loop of spells which results in a long combo. How strong and fast is your play group? Casual games of commander usually end on turns 8-10. Some end faster, some end later, but turns 8-10 are the most common end points. As a result, we should plan accordingly. As has been said in many videos and articles, here are some good generic bits of advice: • The rule of 8: pick 8 things you want to do and have 8 versions of that thing. 8*8=64 + 35 lands = 99 cards and you have yourself a deck. • Despite "The rule of 8", it is nice to have about 36-39 lands in a slower Wizards deck, as opposed to faster decks with low cost spells. 10-12 Mana rocks is solid. The 3 Signet's, 3 Talisman, Sol Ring, Wayfarer's Bauble, Work Powerstone and so forth. • I ask (again?) the question, "How do you want to win?" With Inalla, I think the best way to win in terms of story/flavor as well as mechanics of our commander is an infinite swarm of tokens with haste. We achieve that by making Bloodline Necromancer copies with Ashnod's Altar, or we can do that with Dualcaster Mage and a flicker spell such as Ghostly Flicker. As a result, the rest of our deck needs to find those cards, protect those cards, get them back from the graveyard if possible, and protect ourselves from opposing decks. I think Mitch has done a good job of giving us a starting point and some good ideas, but I also think several of the Wizards in the list can be cut, as they don't help our game plan. The wizards we want to keep tend to be the ones that tutor up our combo, such as Trophy Mage, and wizards that support us. I find that creatures like Time Stream Navigator and several others don't do anything to help us in a meaningful way. My current build has about 12-16 wizards depending on how I have adjusted my play testing and I am by no means locked in. The people I play against tend to have individual threats which must be answered, as opposed to several threats at once. For example, Scion of the Ur Dragon can one-hit-kill you. It can activate its ability twice in a row and resolve them in order, getting Moltensteel Dragon to pump its power at instant speed and then the black infect dragon and deal 10 poison damage. It can also become The Ur Dragon and then use Tainted Strike and also one-shot you for poison damage. It can also have combinations of double strike and 11 power and deal 21+ commander damage and kill you. As a result, I always need to be ready to have instant speed spot removal to keep some shields up, as Wizard creatures are not built to block flying dragons (often with haste). That is all in addition to a traditional dragon beat down. Then factor in all the other kinds of opponents and decks, and I find that it is important to have a balance of instant speed defensive spells and instant speed card draw - so that we are not wasting our Mana and can at worst cast one or more draw spells at end of turn. This is why the blue Leyline and the original Teferi creature (not Planeswalker) are so important. However, everything depends on your meta.

@@PaulGaither My playgroup is not very strong, since we are all casual players. Spellseeker is not budget for me anymore, thats why i think the necromancer + altar combo and the dualcaster + ghostly flicker is also very nice :) i also have a wanderwine prophet here to go for the infinite turns. I think winning by combo seems pretty cool :) thats how i want to win, which is the most efficient combo without going to expensive here? or is it maybe better to include several combos? Okay my playgroup has also often very individual threats, so i think 1 boardwipe is fine but i need more specific counter for single threats. Maybe Brine Seer? Do you have a decklist of your current deck? Thank yo again for your great answer :)

I've had what I consider a budget Inalla deck for over a year now. archidekt.com/decks/60459#Inalla,_Community_College_Headmistress It's a bit on the pricey end of budget at around $120. Description on how to play the deck at the bottom. This is my cheapest deck, and also my strongest deck. If I want to win, I don't pull my $800+ deck out, I pull this out. You can try to win, you can win by accident, you can win even with your opponents trying to stop you.
