I had a friend like this in elementary school. She would wear cat ears and hiss and scratch people. We all read the warrior cat books and each had our own “cat persona”. It was fun to me! I always had an active mind and childish role play seemed harmless. Once we got to middle school, her and my other friends joined the art classes and created their own fursonas. I chose band, and we grew apart. 8 years later, and I believe she is now transitioning to being a male, but still identifies with the furry community. I pray for her occasionally. Hope she’s ok, and I thank God that band saved me.

it seems to be 13/14 year olds, and rooted in feelings, I replied to a couple here, and two of them say had a dream of their past, one says they're 2 animals. but a consistent thing is, they "feel" they are these "theriotypes" and do "quadrobics" Looking at the way these kids write, i've got the sense it's cult-like.

Furries is just a community of people who simply appreciate the creative choices of talking and/or anthro character in stories and media. And their "fursonas" are just simply their avatars/mascot. And the suits are meant to play the same role as theme parks/sports with how they use those SAME type of suits to bring their characters to life. Yes all fandoms have their people who take things too far, but this fandom/community I feel gets too harshly judged because people automatically affiliate them with Therians, Otherkins, & Zoophiles; making the assumption that they are all one in the same when they aren't. Furries by themselves are just an artistic/creative community.

As a therian myself, I wanted to politely point put one thing. When Brett says,"I'm a koala therian because I like hugs." Does not mean you're a therian. Humans can like hugs too, it's in our blood to be social. If someone said," I'm a bear therian because I tend to sleep longer in winter and be overprotective of those I love." Would be better.
