Then you need to set a long weekend or two and do Lord of the Rings, but start with The Hobbit. Also, how can you discuss Brave New World an 1984 and not, at least, mention Animal Farm? @@Kanshin I wouldn't say the Keira Knightley version is American. Pretty much the entire cast except for Donald Sutherland and Jena Malone are British as is the director. The only connection to America it has is that it was produced and distributed by Miramax which is an American company, but aside from that the production is otherwise thoroughly English. I don't mean to nitpick it's just that when people see "American version/adaptation" they tend to be justifiably turned off as I would say seven out of ten times the "American" adaptation tends to be of inferior quality.

I wondered if The Lord of the Rings was going to be described in such a manner, since I have heard it described like that before. As soon as you asked if there were other rings my brain autofilled the Galadriel speech of, "Three were given to the Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven to the Dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who, above all else, desire power. But they were, all of them, deceived, for another ring was made. In the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a Master Ring, to control all others. And into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all life. One Ring to rule them all!"

I was so confident that the one about returning jewelry would be Robin Hood. Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest stories ever told, and the fact that someone was able to reduce it to returning a ring is insane. Also, it is astonishing that you have never even heard of Ender's Game. The Ender's series is the best sci-fi series ever created. Star Wars doesn't even come close to it. Ender's Game is such an outstanding and influential piece of literature that Ben Shapiro had the author, Orson Scott Card, as a guest on his podcast to talk about it. Ender's Game was one of the handful of books that were so good, I had to just outright steal them from my parents' bookshelf instead of waiting to get my own copy. If I remember correctly, it was the first book I've ever done that with.

I wouldn't call Dory mentally disabled. My sister was mentally disabled and had the mindset of a toddler. That's not the same as Dory. I would say Dory has dementia or something.

After hearing Brett talk about her experience watching Lord of the Rings, I want that to be the next trilogy that she watches! I also, loved the book trivia and was surprised by how many I acutally got right!

That was so much fun! Hats off to the writers for coming up with those ridiculous summaries. And props to Cooper for being so well read at such a young age. I didn’t read brave new world until i got out of the military.

I always thought Animal Farm was the better Orwell book, and I loved Brave New World. Brett should at least read The Hobbit. :)

5:00 "Don Quixote", I remember Andrew Klavan was so upset that during the Summer of Peaceful Violence, the rioters/terrorist destroyed a statue of Cervantes in, I believe it was San Francisco. Klavan loves his work. "Days after his monument was vandalized, the tribute to Cervantes was cleaned. In a misguided attempt at national reckoning over the failure of Black America and White America to overcome the traumata of slavery, rioters went on a rampage in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and defaced the monument to Miguel de Cervantes. The vandals sullied the beloved Cervantes memorial, writing “Bastard” beneath the bust of the Spanish writer. I doubt any of the culprits knew Cervantes was enslaved for five years in North Africa."

Brett has gotta read Fahrenheit 451! I think it feels relevant to today in a whole lot of ways and might deepen people’s understanding of our own culture as a society. Please read it Brett!

@@johnxland9373 I would advise against anyone starting Tolkien with the _Silmarillion_ . It's fascinating if you grew attached to his characters and world through _The Hobbit_ and LotR, but would seem really tedious and confusing to someone who hadn't read those.

My first thought this is going to be fun, and it was except for Harry Potter and Pride & Prejudice. She didn't even give us a chance to read/hear the description. A good host would've said "I know this" but give her audience a chance to answer it.
