Advice: - Do NOT allow your kid(s) to have social media until a certain age. - If they have it, monitor their online activities. - Keep their media private for friends ONLY. - Watch what they're learning in school. Get involved in their school lives. - Teach them to tell you if someone touched them. - Teach them to NEVER go to an adult's house, if invited. Teachers, pastors, rabbis, etc, anyone can be a predator.

Hey there. I'm a 16 year old. My parents didn't allow me to own a phone until I was around 11-12. Even then, I had like a bit of a limit on how much time I would spend on it, and I was only given 1 social media platform (Instagram) and was told to ask my parents for permission before I downloaded any apps. It was in fact a bit weird, and I was sometimes left out of parties, not because I wasn't liked at school, but simply because my mates had NO way of contacting me. Social Media is a powerful tool to promote what you do. It's also great for having fun with friends, and relaxing. I currently use social media to promote my music, and do what I like doing. I also have private accounts that only people I know in real life have access to, and it's mainly just to chat with friends and whatnot. Now I'm not telling you what to do, because as a 16 year old, what would I know about being a parent? Not much. In my opinion, parents often over-exaggerate the dangers of social media. Sure, there's loads of predators. But unless your child is actively seeking them out, it's very rare that a child would actually manage to get groomed by one of them. Most people have common sense, and will be able to tell if an online person is pretending to be someone they arent, especially in today's society, where us children have grew up with, and use slang words that are nearly impossible for adult groomers to decipher, unless they take the time out of their day to search it up in order to groom a kid. I'd say that you should allow them to have social media when they are 13, heck, even when they are 12, or 11! But ONLY a private one. I only started my public social media channels when I was 14, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to start one any earlier. A private social media account would be able to connect them with their friends even more. But that's just my opinion. All the best, and have a great day! EDIT: Bloody hell, I wrote a whole essay.

Don't keep your children from having phones. Unless you want them to be social outcasts, with not many friends. Actually, nah. They will still be able to make friends, just with the weird kids. There's nothing wrong with being with the so called 'wierd ones' but surely, as a dad yourself you remember your days in high school. Of course it would be different regarding modern age technology, but surely you would remember how the 'weird kids' would never get invited to parties, had no friends, or would get bullied. Now there's obviously no chance that anyone would get bullied or classified as 'weird' simply because they don't have a phone, but it's just a way of connecting with your mates. All the first big generation of millions of porn ''actresses'' from the 2000s and early 2010s, are the shameless mothers of these kids and young teenagers of today. So they are used to ''justify'' or ''normalize'' everything as a ''work''. Just like they did in the past. The other part of my theory in the same generation, it's the millions of ''consumers'', young men and mostly middle age adults at that time. Who are now, mostly middle-aged adults dads and old men grampas, just like the ones you saw in this video. Who are now unsatisfied of what they are watching for the last decades, just like a drug. So their brain is a mess, and they become pedo and creepy through the years. They are not even ashamed of making those sick comments on a kid's Instagram. I knew someone who followed tons of those gymnastics accounts. Seeing the volume of similar child content changed my perspective of the world we live in. I remember my ex husband excusing his best friend’s instagram behavior as him only following child gymnastics accounts because his step daughter (age 5) loved gymnastics. But it was instinctually obvious to me that was a disgusting lie. I was terrified for his step daughter. I blocked his friend so there was no access to pictures of our child. Later I also discovered my ex husband was following young teen content. Lots of them. After divorced, my ex sexually assaulted one of his teenage students during school hours. Turns out birds of a feather flock together. Its not just fantasizing. Trust your gut instincts about people and their intentions.

My husband is an analyst for a state drug team. He works with the dark web and sees all of this evil shit. 🤬💔Extremely heartbreaking. I believe if you are a detective for child abuse/ child pronography, you are only allowed 2 years to do so and move on. Definitely takes a toll on you emotionally and mentally.
@ST L Nah, I actually believe it's the taxing nature of the work. That's seems credible to me. As for how you get things done, you rotate the agents and give the guy you pass the baton to all your cases in progress, bring him to speed, it's not unworkable. The problem won't be solved completely, there's always going to be degenerates to catch, but if you want to reduce the volume of it as much as possible : 1. Get the kids off the internet. 2. Death penalty delivered swiftly for all pedos who commit sexual assault. 3. Prison for life in a penal colony for those who own and consume child porn. 4. Rebuild strong local communities where all adults keep an eye out for predators, make sure theirs and other people's kids stay safe. 5. Volunteering your time to track and report the online and real space predators, like the brave folks featured in this video are doing. 6. And this is the most important of all in the long term. Keep kids innocent about sexual stuff. Don't groom them, don't let them watch porn or have other experiences inappropriate for their age. And when they come of age and inevitably do discover the nature of all things sexual, guide them through it. Teach them the proper way to engage with it, that is ; Fall in love, wait until you're married to have sex, remain loyal to your spouse, and keep away from weird fetishes. Why is raising kids properly about sexual activity so important? Because there is an established correlation between inappropriate sexual development and the manifestation of predatory behavior later in life. The less watchful we are about sex as a culture, the more predators will curse the latter generations. Often people ask how we got to this point. The answer is obvious. 3-4 generations of sexual liberalism. Doesn't mean they weren't sexual predators beforehand, but at least it seems to me, there were a LOT fewer of them, they weren't as bold, and were punished far more swiftly and appropriately. We as a society can do number 1, 4, 5 and 6 ourselves, without help for the government. 2 and 3, you'd need to pressure government into doing the right thing, vote the right people in, etc. That's more difficult. But the vast majority of the work, we can and ought to do ourselves. If you are a parent or plan to be one, if you know parents asking for guidance, or making the mistake of putting their kids up on the web, then you have a pathway to positive change.

When a little boy in the 80's my parents owned a bakery in a mall. I used to spend a lot of time there. Sometimes I'd walk around the shops looking at toys. One time I was at the grocery store looking at toys and I noticed this man looking at me weird, he'd keep staring at me with a sinister look on his face that creeped me out so I moved to the next aisle, he waited a few seconds then followed me as soon as he turned into the aisle he was looking right at me. He wasn't shopping, he didn't have a trolley he was just lurking. I moved to the next isle he followed me again so I decided to go back parents bakery as fast as I could without looking behind me So don't know if he followed me out. I told my mum and she never let me go out in the mall by myself again until I started high school. Another time when I was a little younger around 5, I was riding my bike in front of my house and a man in a car pulled over and called me over, I started moving towards him luckily my older teenage sister (she was 19 at the time) was watching me through the window and ran straight out called me back and went to talk to the man. Apparently he was asking for directions. And another time one of the regular customs told my mum that she was just at the park across the street from the mall and she saw a man with a little boy near some bushes, I can't remember if she said the boy was naked or had his pants down, but my mother went straight to my dad who was working in the back and before she could finish talking my dad grabbed the biggest knife could find got in his car ignoring my mum's pleas not to go and drove straight there. After a while he returned said he didn't see anything suspicious. He searched the whole park, half of it was a huge field the rest was gardens and playgrounds. So hopefully that was just the boys father helping him relieve himself in the bushes nothing more.

This is so common. What Bret covers only scratches the surface. Take Instagram. There are HUNDREDS of child gymnastics, dancing, modeling, and even twerking accounts mainly from Eastern European, South American/ Brazillian, and South Asian accounts. Some of these are even made by the children who don't know any better. I'm so glad Brett is finally talking about this. Same I was abused by 2 women babysitters growing up. I hate this notion of being scared of letting men watch your children because I had 4 babysitters growing up 2 women and 2 men and obviously not in the same house the 2 women were abusive one beat me and I didn't end up getting out of there until she put my teeth through my lip and my mom saw and took immediate action. The other women I have never talked about it to anybody and I don't blame my parents for anything that happened because with both of them I never spoke up, and the only reason she found out about the one woman was that she literally punched me in the mouth so hard it put my teeth all the way through my lips. When my mom first saw me it was so black she thought it was oreo because that is what the woman told her it was it wasn't until we were home she saw that it was actually blood and bruising. So yeah take care of your children I refuse to get a babysitter because even though the person may be wonderful I would much rather not take that chance and get a manipulative abuser watching my child as they will live with that for the rest of their lives. My mom still feels guilty about the one babysitter who put my teeth through my lip but it really isn't her fault she needed child care and the state recommended her to my mom there was literally no way she could have predicted what would happen. Oh, I just remembered I had 5 babysitters another woman who I can not remember and only know of through being told about her. She couldn't have children and by all accounts would have been a wonderful mother from what I was told. But she was planning on kidnapping me and running away because she grew attached to me and it was getting harder to give me back when my mom got off work. I can't remember how they found out she was planning on kidnapping me (or if she did) but it's what I was told. From the story, I felt bad for her because I guess she was a great person just infertile and really wanted children and grew attached to a baby that wasn't hers and it caused her mental issues but was still a red flag and nightmare for any parent.

a few years ago, my daughter tried out competitive "cheerleading". I took her out immediately after watching the first competition. My expectation was a small gym or large room with girls cheering, but I was so wrong. So, firstly, the "competition" was at a large venue, huge stage, pro lights and sound, and professional television cameras all over the place (the large ones mounted on boom cranes with a person sitting in it. ALL of the judges were male, all of the camera crew were male, and it was set up like a night club/rock concert type of vibe. There were also many males who were there that were NOT there with kids... I realized at the competition exactly what this was, and we withdrew from the venue and went home. If I would have known it was that "lavish" and exploitive, I would have never let my daughter into cheerleading at all. This was a pervert paradise, and I strongly believe they were filming it for distribution. The production was far higher than any rock concert I ever seen.... The fact that there are so many social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, KZbin, etc. being so active shows that these tech companies not only allow them but also probably shield them is more than enough info to keep your kids offline. The idiots who think that there is no problem with ch**d exploitation are either complicit or completely ignorant. When I was in high school, I went to a few cheer competitions, and they definitely didn't have the production value of a rock concert. They were pretty well done and had lights and some pyrotechnics, but nothing like a professional rock concert. You either went to a VERY high end competition, or have been to some very lame concerts. As for the men there with no kids, how do you know they didn't have kids? The cheer teams don't go into the stands, and no one is allowed in the cheer areas backstage. So unless you sat and watched everyone once the competition was over, how can you know if they had kids in the competition or not? I'm not trying to be antagonistic or say you're making it up, but people often make exaggerated claims, and it does more harm than good. Many girls and boys work really hard in cheer competitions, and those kinds of allegations could end up taking their passion away from them.

Brett, this is a world wide issue. Growing up, in Saudi Arabia and India, I've known grown men with daughters of different ages still preying on young girls who are their neighbours, relatives and children left under their wives' care when their parents are at work. I'm 30, and I know 10 close friends over the years (including me), have been victims of this. It is across the board, the worst part of all this is that none of our parents would believe us or take us seriously, and the men would never be called out on this behaviour. My parents won't even take note of this discomfort around some people; I'm still asked to behave myself and be normal and get over it.

I found out he's stalked girls under 16 and I saw that he has been talking to behind my back, one of them was 15 or 16. All this happened just days before I broke up with him. I couldn't get any solid evidence. But one girl I spoke to said her parents and her tried all their best to get my ex charged, back when she was 15 after an incident and involving one of her friends, who was 14 or 15. The police ended up dismissing everything. I still feel so sick to this day, I wish I had noticed the signs right from the beginning before I ended up dating him. I feel grossed out.

@@agustinshanoon5057 Bringing left/right politics into this issue is extremely childish and makes it sound like you think pedophilia shouldn't be investigated or punished unless it's specifically by people who share your views, which is very weird psychologically when you have a good think about it (Think echo chamber complexes that are commonplace with morality among left and right parties). Fact of the matter, he is a hero. Being a hero doesn't mean you need to be a hero in ALL aspects, but he is absolutely a hero for using his platform to bring attention to what's going on with these young girls, and making sure parents are aware of the dangers of posting children online.

Yes, she's shedding light on something we didn't know about and taking away some of our innocence in the process, but for those of us who don't want to join Twitter and Insta and TikTok and all the apps that are the heart of the issue, it is incredibly helpful to know that we have a safe place to learn about these sorts of things. I was a teenager, older teenager, when I started getting messages from random strangers from places like Nigeria and the middle east. Wanting to start a relationship, get married or whatever. I know that is probably looks harmless, but I have no doubt that this is how predators and traffickers fish out vulnerable women. One guy was a "Christian" from Nigeria and he wasn't willing to come to Australia to meet me and my family. But he wanted me to travel to Nigeria to meet him and his family. I got a bad feeling about him and ghosted him. It is so ridiculously easy for these men to target vulnerable girls and women.

As a mom of a toddler , thank you for sharing these things. We need to be aware and prepared so we can protect our children. No one will protect them if I/we don’t. It’s hard, but it is so important to keep alert and keep fighting. If that means your child is mad at you because you don’t let him/her have social media until they’re an adult….ok! You’re their parent not their friend. Our job is to protect them not make them like us.

The dangers aren't merely the downside. There's the question of "what the hell is the upside?". Even without this stuff, these things are distractions machines, which paint celebrity as an ultimate good. Technology is meant to be a tool. Tools are meant to serve the user as a means to some end. It's a rational proposition. So even if you ignore the dark hidden corners and just look at 'normal' use, these services are warping people. For Facebook, you can reduce the proposition to "connecting with family and friends". It seems factually accurate that human social needs can be served in a community of 20-50 people who care about you at a human level. If Facebook does anything else (oops, we trapped you in a filter bubble. oops we chewed up several hours of your day and trained you to be distracted), then it's a failure. I don't even know what the value proposition of Instagram or TikTok is. Do the people who work at Instagram regard it as a disease? The most chilling description of information technology is that it's an undirected experiment. Radical transformation of the human brain and society by people with the benevolent, warm understanding of humanity of Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates. It's not being designed by the wisest people with the noblest intentions to serve humanity. We're trailing behind it wondering what it's done to us.
