Back around 1970, I used to fiddle around with my aunt and uncles's short wave radio certain nights. I remember coming across a lot of weird stuff that creeped me out. I would hear the same "song" or same sounding chant each night, but on different parts of the dial so I could never show it to anyone. Besides, I wasn't supposed to be awake so I didn't ask an adult.

Here in Buffalo New York, I own a shortwave radio. I’m not joking, one night I heard the Swedish rhapsody numbers station song on it. It was the beginning part with those beeps. The station was so weak that as soon as I touched the tuning dial on it, the station went to static. It sounds so creepy. I can actually use it on a horror like video if I want to.

Came across this one loads (living in Europe) when I was a kid and liked DXing. Mainly around 1984-85 or so. No one was ever creeped out. We felt the Eastern bloc was just a huge pile of secrets we didn't know much about and we accepted it that way. It was far more disturbing that we were taught in school that we were all going to die in a nuclear war. IDK how us Gen X'ers can be this sane. ;)

@Nicholas Blakeney It's hard to even remember now. Unreal. I mean, there are still nukes out there but the fear is gone or lessened. We were actually sure we were gonna die, I don't know what they thought not sheltering us a little. I mean, war could have happened but it didn't but I think deep down we still carry a bit of trauma from that time. I wish they had lied a little. They even taught us how far you were from the bomb and what damage you'd get from different distances. It was really graphic and I was like 14. Also we watched a mock docu about a nuclear attack, it was quite like Threads but it wasnt. I havent found that movie again. I remember bright light and melted eyes.

And many years after Velvet revolution, we could see in documents that Czech Republic was actually the one place on Earth which should be mainly nuked in this war - in plans of both sides, western one (US) and Soviet one too. We are really lucky that we are still here, the entire land.

I picked these before in the past tuning in transistor radios..Last time I can remember was in Sydney Australia in 95..Remember listening freaked, puzzled and curious at the same time, stumbling on one.Plus then I didn’t know what a number station was..But I do remember thinking it had to be a code of some sort, being how they sounded..Though something a bit James Bond about it,they were eerie..

what? this creeps you out? this is two communicators in radio bumfuckery learning how to call and respond with independently-arrived-at codebook extensions for radio channels in times of crisis. it's how two unknowns can confirm their "known-ness". you can practically hear it in their voices when the math formulas begin to tick on both sides. duh.
