Replacing Shipping Container Doors - You'll See Why We Don’t Recommend It! | The Container Guy
In this video, watch as we struggle to replace a shipping container door with a new one. This kind of project requires at least two other helpers, a welder, and four hinge butts and hinge pins to reinstall the door.
It’s not as easy as removing sea can doors, so we don’t recommend it if you have other options. You can either weld the doors shut and install a roll up door in the end wall, or you can remove the container doors and install a shutter door/roll up door in its place.

At first I was confused, how do I install the hinges that have been cut??? but it's very clever to add a bearing to each end of the hinge and weld it You have returned to the original function👍👍

I would love to know if you have made a video tackling the removal and replacement of the pipes on the container doors. I am in an area where I cannot find doors and just have one or two bent bars, so was thinking of trying to find a way to remove the damaged ones, get the doors closed, tack, weld them, and then add whatever pipe is used to the top and bottom pins.

I have a 20 ft sea can and in looking at the doors, I think the way they made the sea can was the hinges were on the sea can, the door was put in place, lined up, and then the hinges welded on. Then the top and bottom keepers welded where they need to be. In saying that, I think I would have cut the damaged door off the hinges (leaving the old ones on the sea can), cut the hinges off the new door (keep them as spares), put it in place, square it up and weld it. Cut the old keeps off and weld them on where they need to be (if you have to). Basically repair it the way it was, or I think it was, built. I've never done one but wondered, if I ever had to repair it, how I would do it. My 2 cents.

Can a shipping container door be removed and modified with a house door then shipped?

What grade steel do you use to repair the bottom of the door? just some mild steel or Corten? I am just about to do such a repair on a storage container on my property.

Mild steel is fine if you're using the container for storage purposes. Understandably, corten steel is demanded by shipping lines and leasing companies so their fleet lasts longer. Fun fact: EVERGREEN containers were actually made from mild steel for the longest time.

I have a reefer door thats rusted outside to the point plywoods showing but the stainless steel on the other side is still good , but I can only find normal container doors for sale is it possible to relocate the stainless steel stuff to a regular door ?

If the doors still open/close, you're best to patch the door panels or slap on some sort of waterproofing membrane over the holes to try to seal it up again. Almost a 0% chance regular doors will work.
